in this video I'm going to show off my all original 1964 1/2 Stingray Super Deluxe Blue, Along with my 64 lime repaint, with original & repop parts. I'm going to go over all the original parts it should have, give you some thing to compare to incase you were looking to buy one and needed to see if the parts were original equipment or original parts.
History: 1964 was the biggest Volume year for Schwinn Dealers. The 1964 1/2 Stingray Super Deluxe model J37-6 was first unveiled in July during the meeting and available to ship in August for Christmas. it featured Spring fork, the new streamline saddle narrower for pedaling, one year only Persons high loop Sissy bar, 2 speed hub, rear studded standard white walls & butterfly handle bars. Colors include Flamboyant Lime, Red, Radiant Coppertone, Sky blue or Violet. And sold for $66.95

Very Nice Super Deluxes. I now seen 3 variations of the Bendix 2-speed overdrive arms. Yours with the Bendix on the bottom. I have a April 1965 Super Deluxe lime with the Bendix on top and overdrive on bottom and one with just the Automatic 2-speed and overdrive on the bottom.

I just recently seen the one with no Bendix, not sure if it's early or later. Eagle hubs did remake them awhile back. I wanna say the red, blue and yellow hub have a different arm.

I had a lime green Super Deluxe Stingray and I believe it was 1964 model when I was 13 in Beaumont Tx and then moved to Houston in 1967 where I wore it out like a was a motorcycle racer. I often did some kind of jump that had me a bit airborne. I greatly appreciate the opportunity you are giving me to see one again!

THEY DO MAKE WINDSHEILDS FOR STING-RAYS! I thought it would be cool to have one on mine, but it's gotta slow that thing down significantly lol

They're not being made or reproduced that I know of. But they are out there. Made for the stingrays with wide handlebars. Mid to Late 60s. I recently took my bike to a show and someone or the wind knocked it over and it broke. I had a couple guys offer a NOS replacement to me. They go for around $300-500+.But I plan on just cutting one from a sheet of plastic as a place holder. I still have the brackets. But as far as riding, ya. It's gonna catch some wind.

very nice just came a across a 1964 dlx SR with original paint , tires where to far gone . as many SR that where sold not that many out there , was looking at 68-73 Krates but no way to tell if there are real ?

serial numbers are key to tell the difference between original and repop. original krates start with double letters. Let's say first year for krate- Jan 1968 "A D". To Last years Dec 1973 "M J". so second letter being Year. "D, E, F, G, H, J" (NO I or o). The repops have 3 to 5 letters (JAK.....)

repops will have a white sticker on top bar. which will push the top bar decal back towards the seat post.

@@Schwinn_Addiction thanks, went to bycle history, spent 3 hours looking at the catalogues , models . my 1972 super sport is a one yr only oblecqe green, my racer is a 1961 , beach cruiser chestnut I bought new in 1982 is a left over 1981 thanks for the info to look for on repop 1990s or newer bikes

I have a question, I bought a Schwinn stingray frame, I was told it was a 1965, I can’t figure out where the numbers are. I have a 56 with the numbers on the bottom, but I can’t find the numbers on the 65.

if it's a 56, the numbers should also be on left rear drop out.(kick stand side) if numbers are on under on crank it's older than 51. send pics of numbers to me on Instagram.com/schwinn_addiction

@@peterkugel2631 yes,CA is March 1965. the sting ray is the same frame as typhoon, only the sting ray had different parts, chainguard decal & fork crown. people were taking early original 63 typhoon frames and adding sting ray parts, trying to pass it off as original 63 sting ray. s far as trying to figure out what it is, it's the same frame, and can be either or. no way to tell.

Bought a recent repro high loop sissy bar on E-Bay. I think they are a little less taller in the hoop over the seat but close to yours.Would you know if the repros are slightly smaller in the hooped area? Seat sissy bar height & post height can affect that loop size too I think...I have a 66 Super Deluxe I built from parts years back still looks good...

You know what, I did a video on differences but I never post it. I'll do that. I was thinking they were the same size so I had to look at it to comfirm. But they in fact are the same. Only differences are the crimps. I had bought one before I knew repops existed. I'm pretty sure the guy knew , (which why he was selling it.) but i asked him he said he didnt know. But It looked brand new and that should of been a red flag it wasn't original. It didn't look rechromed. I bought it any way. ( I drove 1 hr 30m for it) But come to find out it was a Repop. So I made a video with it so people will know.

Where is a 2 speed

@jessejessop5418 it's an internal 2 speed, you have to pedal backwards to switch gears. That's why some call it a Kickback.
