Instead of bare metal foil ,use the thinnest aluminum foil you can get from your grocery store, and paint thinned out Elmer's glue on the parts you want chromed. Walk away for about 1/2 hour for the glue to set up then lay your foil. Its what we used B4 Bare metal foil. It works GREAT ! Bare Metal foil is more convenient, a little less time consuming and messy, but silver sharpie vs. Aluminum foil to me is a no brainer. You put all your time and effort into building a car model, why go the sharpie route when foil looks like real real chrome ? I haven't read any comments but I will bet alot of them will be saying what I just said. Anyway...... KEEP ON A BUILDING ! ☝👍👍👍👍 !

I always thought that the micro set and micro sol is a better decal solution than the Tamiya. Being two steps the Micro Sol will really get them to lay down and conform to the surfaces. But the build came out great so not sure it even matters. Good Job. I think the metal foil really looks great.

Looks great ! Must have been a relief to see that the decals dried clear after leaving it overnight (don't think I'd have got much sleep!) especially after all that foil work . Love to put a spin on this kit and turn it into a fire chief car with an old style beacon light on the roof , siren horns instead of the ram air set up in the grille , steel type wheels sans hubcaps and maybe chequered tape on the flanks . I'd call it the ... F I R E B O L T !!!

if you apply a decal mark set and seal from Tamiya or the like from others they will conform easier and are less likely to go brittle or milky. Also clear coating and or future floor polish is also supposed to be helpful for that as well.

That really looks nice! Gas Ronda would be proud to drive that. Glad the decals worked out for you. I'm pretty sure the bumpers were originally aluminum. I wouldn't be surprised if someone that had a real Thunderbolt changed them to fiberglass to be able to drive or race it once in a while without fear of messing up an original aluminum one. For every one real Thunderbolt, I'd guess you see at least ten fakes at car shows and such. Pretty much all the parts are available to make a clone I believe.
