Jay , That has to be as close to concours as you can get! Regarding "GTO" written under the hood it's a shame that was lost . Some time ago l restored a Lotus Cortina Mk 1 and under the boot deck panel l found "LOTUS" hand painted in the Green they used for the side flash. Well l took a trace and when l repainted the car l made sure the "lotus" was placed in the same spot. As l always say, it's all in the detail. Thankyou Jay. If l ever have money and time to fly over to America l will definitely come and visit. Take care and keep safe!

We'll be here and look forward to the visit. Neat story/history. Have you restored many cars or was that a one off?

@@VoloMuseumAutoSales Hello Jay. I've restored a number of classics. Mini's ( 1st generation) 35+. VW beetles 15+. Porsche 912×1 911×3. Jaguars various but 10 + XJ6. MK9 ×2. "e"type ×1. XJS×2. Finally 10+ Lotus Cortina MK 1's (all pre airflow) a number have been sold and then exported. I owned a number of mini's, an XJ6 series 2, an XJS. The Lotus were my ex- manager , he was/is the world's aficionado on the MK 1. 550 VAR is the most famous and was once owned by Jim Clark. Dario Franchitti offered the present owner £350k ! 178 TJH was my final restoration and probably the most accurate because as you well know the more original and complete the car is, the better the end product. You can Google both of these cars. I've restored hundreds of cars but too many to list (or remember!) I own a very early TR6 that l am restoring and a '66 2+2 "e"type waiting. I'm retired but like you l still have the passion. Your probably sorry you asked!😂Take care and keep safe.

I am not going to debate (again) as to what the first muscle car of the 60s was (not the GTO) but rather, that is a beautiful car, Jay. Deviation from original is subtle. Tasteful 🤓

Thank you complimenting the car. I dont remember how I worded it but you are correct, the GTO is not the first muscle car. I do believe it is recognized as the first muscle car. Regards

Back in the day, my best friend and his sister both had 64 GTOs. I got to ride in them and drive them a lot. I could be wrong, but I thought they had a 389 w/a four barrel. I didn't think the 400 was available until 66 or 67. Is this a numbers matching engine?
