I was HOOKED forever on Pontiacs!!!!...I can still hear the sound of the carbs opening up and and tires burning and the man banged all 4 gears for me ..wow ...just ...WOW.....if you can can you PLEASE do another video on the GTO for this old man!!!! Love your channel !!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!

something to consider-- since the rear was jacked up so high the uncle may have lengthened the driveshaft to get better engagement. now with the rear lowered it's a little too long. or he put a yoke with extended shaft that is now bottoming out on the speedo gear.

That's one of the nicer GTOs ive seen lately. It's amazing how the factory cars have changed in 50 years from 14 seconds to 10 seconds. If someone told me that we would have 7 second street driven daily drivers when I was a high school kid I would have said that they were crazy in the 70s

There was a guy in my High School back in 1972 with a black convertible 64 or 65 GTO also with the 389 tri power 4 speed. One day during lunch hour he was cruising by in front of school and decided to show off by dumping the clutch and doing a smoky burnout. What he had failed to notice was a cop sitting on his bike on a frontage road not more than 40-50’ away. The cop just casually kick started the bike (old Harley), pulled out onto the street and pulled him over right in front of everyone. My buddies and I never laughed so hard!!!🤣🤣🤣

66 Chevrolet SS convertible 4 inch lift in the front . Air shocks in the rear. Race someone let sir out of the rear shocks. Used heavier coils in the front. Had it aligned. It drove good, not just straight line.

Pull the numbers matching(?) drivetrain and build a F.A.S.T. setup with a 500+ tri-power built to max power stock appearing and appropriate trans/diff. No, it will not compete with the Vettes but could be an easy 11 maybe 10 second "stock" 64 GTO!

Love the GTO I had one The racers in the 60's made the rear springs extra stiff Watch Sox and Martin no give in rear springs made cars go up and away in the front The AFX first generation funny cars had motor set back front raised and stiff SOX AND MARTIN videos will show this and street racers imitated them They were who was winning

Hi: I'm pretty sure the 365hp 327 did not come with an Carter AFB carb.
@HorsepowerDepot6 ай бұрын
So maybe it’s a 327/340? This is all before my time so I could be wrong lol.
@lencac79526 ай бұрын
Those valve covers were used on the 300hp 327. And as far as I can remember Chevy never used an AFB on any corvettes. Only Holley carbs of various types. Back in those days the AFB was basically an aftermarket carb. Although I do think Chrysler used a version of it. The Carter Thermoquad (aka thermobog) was a carb Chrysler used and was very similar to the AFB in how it all worked. Now if your 327 was a 365hp engine it would have flat tappet solid lifer cam (famous Duntov 30/30 cam) and double hump fuelie heads. As did the 375hp 327. The 350hp, 365hp and the 375hp engine all came with 7 fin aluminum valve covers. The 340hp 327 was used in '64 Check out the '65 vette I did a bunch of work on. kzbin.info/www/bejne/f4KsgICLZZKsb5I

Interesting. I do believe I stand corrected (-: Can't say as back then I ever worked on a 300hp vette so I just assumed they used a holley. But looking at a couple YT vids you are correct. After all we are talking about 60 years old Corvettes. Jeez, has it really been that long 🤔

I hate to break it to you, but they didn't make a 1963 Corvette 327/365hp. The 327/365hp L76 wasn't introduced until 1964, it had the 2.02" heads, Holley 600cfm carb and the .030"/.030" cam. The highest hp 327 with a carb in 1963 was rated at 340hp (the FI option only had 360hp that year). It had 1.94" heads, Carter AFB, and the older low lift Duntov cam.

I grew up during the muscle car era, (born in '62) and the poser satellites and tempest were the only cars with jacked up suspension, but only on the back. Poor health in our family caused us to visit alot of doctors offices in LA Jolla, ca (money) and all the doctors drove GTOs ,nary a Porsche or Mercedes in the employee parking lots. By the time I was in high school, all the kids bought the musclecars that the adults had forsaken over 1 dollar a gallon gas, and they all had centerline on them, but stock stance. The roadrunners all had chains on one motor mount because the kids all abused the 4 speeds! Even our science teacher had a 7 liter Galaxy!

Centerline wheels, btw, v8 Vegas were also hot. A friend of mine, who was a total need, swore he had a v8 in his Vega, I doubted him, then took a look. It had a beautiful mid 60s corvette 300 horse 327 through the stock Vega single exhaust! I convinced him to go duals, and he was grateful.!

@@HorsepowerDepot😂😂😂😂 You're funny dude!! Love the GTO! Back In the late 60's and early 70s we all put air shocks on the back and put the back up in the air. Not sure why we did it, we just did it. Actually we usually did it to clear bigger tires on the back.I do recall a 67 GTO running around that was lifted in the front also. I thought it looked pretty cool! Hmmm... Perhaps he was inspired by the old gasser look. Keep letting us know where you're gonna be at... One of these days. Thanks.
