Hey Lou, another home run. My buddy has owned a glen green '65 FI coupe for thirty plus years. He is an NCRS judge and did a body off restoration that turned out perfect IMHO. It is a real car, many out there are not. The '65 was a solid lifter 375hp, last year for mechanical FI. It has a sound of its own. Only 771 were produced and many were replaced with carburetors because of the lack of trained mechanics who had the knowledge to service them. They are actually very reliable if properly serviced. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice resto. The silver/silver combo is a top choice. It just looks right. That first generation Stingray design was/is a total work of art. Beautiful from every angle in and out. I believe the attractive side-pipe exhausts were strictly a dealer-installed option. When my father worked for Chevy, I remember those shields would get hot! Who cared though - they looked awesome. I'll always be a fan of Corvettes. The coolest car ever built.

Hi Joseph, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing your first hand knowledge of the pipes, Lou
@davidtaber6613 Жыл бұрын
@@loucostabile Lou, the "side pipes" were a factory build option. The factory side pipe covers had a pressed molded insulator shield on the back side so there was never a "Hot" issue. Too bad that the "total restoraion" did not include the correct gold stripe tires were the stripe were recessed not outward, the knock off center cap stripes should be red, white and blue in a clock wise orientation, battery should be an Delco acid type with six yellow caps. I have owned a very similar '65 Silver/Silver leather with added factory fuel injection Coupe for over 28 years and always receive many positive comments at shows on the Silver/Silver combination.

It's unfortunate that Chevrolet discontinued the 327/375 fuel injected engine in 1965 but it was an expensive option and the introduction of the 396 and later 427 big block engines at lower cost (but increased weight) caused its demise. Fuel injection came back in later years as the entire auto industry eventually discontinued the use of carburetors.

Hi Lou, The side exhaust that you noted are referred to as “Lake Pipes.” According to Wikipedia, they were developed and tested on the dry lake beds in California. As you’re no doubt aware, the development of exhaust systems can have a major impact on engine horsepower and performance, and with this “Fuelie Corvette,” that’s no exception! Because of the heat generated by them, they have vented covers to protect your legs when you enter and exit the car. I’m not sure if you’re a “Beach Boys” fan, but in one of their songs they refer to “Lake Pipes roar.” I think on one of their album covers they also featured a Corvette, and that exhaust feature may have inspired those lyrics. As a side note, when I was a kid growing up in the sixties, I had a battery-powered 1963 Corvette Sting Ray, and this car story reminds me of that toy. As usual, I enjoyed your review, and I hope you enjoy these additional insights that I share. Cheers!
