I came up with the trick 30 years ago. I actually make them like a body shim so you can just slide them out, instead of taking the bolt out.

I really like the idea of using a protector under the bolts in order to save the paint from getting boogered up. Great timing. I'm fixing to put two fenders on, a hood and front valance for my 70 Mach 1. Needed this video for sure!

Great video, so glad I found you. I’m restoring my Dad’s’66 convertible and it just can’t get the fenders to fit right. Keep up the good work. Thank you! 👍

I like to trim a 3"notch out of the fender skin at that VIN location near the shock tower. Plenty of reason to reveal this 'hidden' VIN number. 1. it shows the car has its original fender aprons.. Not a wreck. 2. For VIN verification, if the car is ever sold for EXPORT, the buyer will want to see as many VIN locations as possible. The "LEGAL" VIN on these early Mustangs is on the drivers fender apron. The door tag is not considered 'legal' VIN verification.

Yup. I've definitely tried put doors on with the fenders on. It sucks.

Nice. I guess I will pull my fenders to get it clean and correct after I get the skin work done

Great build Bubba. Yea, body fitment always starts at the rear.

What I do with our plastic shims, is make one end open just like a regular body shim. This way you don't have to remove the bolt to get it out :)

Good idea. I just want to make sure the paint doesn't get scratched.

Great video as always! Thank you for the video! I don't know if you remember me asking you about fender fitment or not but you really delivered with your response and this vid. Thank you!

with such extensive rust damage, I believe that it much more efficient to buy a new shell and transfert all components including the VIN plates as you have not the original assembly jigs and tolerances are not met causing problems that could be as small as bolt not fitting to as big as global vehicule aligment problems overall a truly nice heavy job

What type bolt/screw did you use to connect the splash shields to the firewall?
@JoDaddysGarage2 ай бұрын
They look like small lag bolts. They sell a lot.

you didn't show actually installing the fender? this only touches base on tip and tricks I guess. I did find another video on your channel showing installing fender for a 67-68 mustang Im sure its very similar for a 65-66 EXCEPT FOR THE where FENDER BOLTS UP TO RADIATOR SUPORT, that's is different between the two generations

There's likely several videos of the fender being installed. Look up the Brooklyn Pony series.

You mentioned the engine bay paint was DP90. What paint is that?
@JoDaddysGarage4 жыл бұрын
It's an Epoxy. www.myrv14.com/buildlog/20160510/p-196_dplf_epoxy_primer-9-13.pdf

For give me, as I know this is an older video, one image I have in my literature, shows a strip caulk like material between the fender apron (top lip) and the fender? Does anyone still do this? Worth it? Thank you.
@JoDaddysGarage Жыл бұрын
Some use it. It was supposed to help with moisture and chafing. Probably important when they were new.

@@JoDaddysGarage thank you. I will probably put some back on my ‘66.

You mentioned dp 90? What is that? You painted your fender rails?
@JoDaddysGarage4 жыл бұрын
DP90 is an epoxy from PPG. I painted the whole engine bay with it. I think the part number has changed.

How did you get the nut on the bolt behind the splash guard if your splash guard was already on the fender?
@JoDaddysGarage3 жыл бұрын
The bolts that go through the fender off of the apron bracket? They go in from the front.
