Thanks for the video, instead of making a sloppy mess with the caulking gun. I neatly pressed in strip caulking around the outside edges of the windshield.

This is one of the better videos on KZbin that deals with the installation of the gasketed, (weatherstripped), glass as found on the 64 1/2 to 68 Ford Mustang. Pay special attention to the fact that this install uses a special sized strip caulk in the gasket's groove that gets inserted into the car's outer metal flange. The diameter of this caulk is 3/16 of an inch. The part number is EW13524. This is a quality Eastwood product and the CJ number is actually the same as the Eastwood part number. This caulk is paintable and its color is black. Its maximum temperature range is 150 degrees. The package of two pounds of 12 inch lengths measures out to a total of 98 linear feet. Using the strip caulk method as shown is a much cleaner method of installation in comparison to applying tube caulk into this same gasket groove. Believe me.

I always start the string at the bottom. This way the weight of the glass will seat down and not move. I’ve done this by my self.

I have to give it to CJ on this one. This is a very good video and it helped make the installation of the windshield on my 66 pretty easy. I have watched a lot of classic Mustang windshield install videos and this is the best as far as explanation, well organized, logical easy to follow steps and quality video/visuals. The process is not really hard at all I did it all by myself with no set of extra hands and it was fine. I will stress however that the sealer is a HUGE pain in the butt to get off of your hands so WEAR GLOVES. I got some disposable nitrile gloves so you still have tactile sensitivity. 91% alcohol does a good job of getting it off with LOTS scrubbing as I learned the hard way before I got the gloves and finished the job. I also found (for me at least) the most crucial area to seal is the area between the body and the seal. So the second area he sealed. That's where I had 2 small leaks I caught during the water test stage. On the bottom left and right towards the corners so I applied extra sealant and used a gloved hand to press in into the area while smoothing it against the body and the seal. Leaks went away. Also like he said the weather stripping is tight so just take your time and go slow stretching and massaging it into place. If you place a lot of torque on these windshields when they are out of the car they can crack easily. I know this because getting my old windshield out and pushing on it not even that hard to unseat it caused it to crack in a bunch of places in an area that was not even near the existing crack. I found that 1/8 diamond braid nylon cord from hardware store was perfect for the pull out/stripping seat cord. Any larger than 1/8 and I think it would be very difficult to pull out especially in the corners and may damage the stripping. Also I got 2 tubes of sealer but one was enough for me with a bit left over. Everything else in this video is A+.

I generally use a 3/16" or even 1/4" nylon rope depending on the vehicle. Yours looks like 1/8" and I have found that OCCASIONALLY a smaller rope (string) can cut/tear the new gasket especially going around square corners. Also, I prefer to overlap it at the bottom and start my pull there so gravity works in my favor. Starting at the top, sometimes the glass will try to slide down and out of position.

This video has me SERIOUSLY thinking about converting my '68 to flush mount glass. LOL sheesh, what a PITA ! well done though .

Excellent. I found using a blunt pointed flat nylon trim tool and Windex helped me attach the gasket to the windshield with very little effort, relatively.

Great video!! I have a 65 Mustang, the top molding is coming off on the driver side corner and I’m sure it’s a clip problem. Can I just remove that one side and figure it out or do I need to remove the whole top piece?

Convertible trim is different. The top trim is bolted in place and there are some screws involved on the side pieces. Make notes and take pictures. Otherwise the same.

Hey Bill, it appears that you leave small portions of windlace attached at the headliner during the windshield install. Am I seeing that correctly? i would like to do that to keep the headliner tight if it's possible. Thanks for the video!

Man it looks like I am going to have to learn this process for myself although I really don't care to. The top driver-side corner of my windshield in my 64 Fairlane is leaking because of a bad install job during paint (a shitty paint job btw)before I got the car. I don't know whether to try and repair it or yank the windshield and start all over.. The previous owner buggered the job up even worse by squirting silicon shit all over the place and yet it still leaks! Uhhgggg! And yes like ya said, I am having a hard time finding someone in my home town willing to take-on this job for the fear of breaking my glass!

How do you install the metal arm into the new sun visor for a 67 mustang?
@jeff9551910 жыл бұрын
Every other video and instructions I've seen shows that the pull cord should start and end at the bottom of the glass not the top. That way when you set the glass on the window openning lip it's easyer go get it started.
@Zerogivengarage10 жыл бұрын
There are differing opinions on many installs, we are simply showing you how we do it. We have successfully installed hundreds of windshields using this technique. While sitting it on the bottom and starting there might be easier, starting from the top will create a better seal IMHO since the lower will push the upper further into place when installed. If the window will leak the top is a far more common place.

This may be a little late for you, but for those that are interested in the diameter of the strip caulk, I clicked onto the info flag in the video and it says that it's an Eastwood product, part number "EW13524" . Eastwood lists the diameter at 3/16 inch. The two pound 12 inch lengths measure out to 98 linear feet. It's color is black and it is paintable.

ozzil Caulking the next morning would be fine. Tough so say why it cracked. Was it a new windshield or an older one?
@ozzil9 жыл бұрын
it was old but mint. installed another one went in fine no cracks
@Loudd2v3 жыл бұрын
@@ozzil I'm a autoglass technician and from my experience the gasket that goes around the window can be very tight so if there was any amount of too much pressure can cause a stress crack, windshields are very fragile when not in place especially the edges so there may have been a tiny chip that caused it to spread.
