Measurement on their way. Any questions be sure to ask. I still have measurements written down in the books. Going to fit more tires, more wheels, still an ongoing process!

Not sure why all the sudden this video popped up today. I called discount tire yesterday to check the price on some new tires for my '65. Gotta be ai tracking on the phones. I've had my '65 for over 30yrs now. Back in 2003, I got some Eagle five spoke polished wheels. Fronts are 6" wide and backs are 8" wide. I installed MT et street 28x11.50x15 on the back and they fit fine. Been the same exact tires since. My tires stick out from the body around 5/8" from the top of the well and have 3.5" of vertical clearance. I'm showing threads from all the burnouts. Trying to go to a show next month and decided to put some new tires on. The size I'm purchasing for replacement are some 255/60/15 which are 27" tall and I lose 3/4" width. My backup slicks are 26" and look like tiny donuts so that's why I'm sticking with 27s. A lot of misconception out there about what will or won't fit. A lot has to do with your suspension. Certain models have a lower stance and wore out, so its hard to fit bigger tires. When I bought mine, I replaced all the suspension with new stock replacement and the car went up a lot.

I'm fumbling through this on my own car. Tire sizes that I really want are not choices from the exact tire brand model, at 15 inch wheels I feel they have to be white letter as well. If I didn't care about white letters this would not really be as much of an issue. The wheels I chose come in very limited size and back space, so spacers might be needed as well. Before I get to carried away the front end needs a alignment, at around the real ride height. Camber and caster can tip a combination from working to not, if your running the ragged edge

Cool video, I know your pain. I did this same song and dance in 2008. Ordered custom wheels, And then fought a ton a rubbing afterwards and didn't want to cut the car. I sold the wheels and regretted it. I now have the off the shelf 16x8 with 4” backspacing from American Racing on 245/50R16. I wish I kept those wheels as now I want to do a mini tub and they were perfect. Live and learn.

I’d love to send pictures but I don’t know how 🤤 I’ll ask my son thanks for the reply I had to get 5” back space on a 15”x 10” crager rim to fit a Lincoln Versailles 9” It is a little wider also had to correct pinion angle up 2.5 degrees to stop a nasty vibration at 45 mph did all that work 24 years ago and just started to work on it again for my son. Also BFGoodrich used to make a 275/50/15 radial TA but sadly discontinued the size not too many replacements for it . If you found a good match of rim and tire I’d like to see it again thanks for the reply.

Awesome video! REALLY appreciate it man! I'd like your opinion? What size tires do you recommend on my 1965 Mustang convertible? It's a 'cruiser' mostly, however I'd like some (not tremendous) 'performance' from it, while still maintaining good overall ride quailty, austetics where the tires look 'correct', not "concourse correct", but look 'proper', + maintain decent gas mileage. It's 90% stock, V8 289ci 4V carb, with a 4 sp T10 manual trans. Puts out ~225 hp. I did however do the 1" Shelby drop which lowered the front ~5/8", leaving the rear end the stock factory height. It has the factory stock 1965 14" steel wheels & stock 14" hubcaps without spinners. I did swap the front drums for 10" disc brakes which fit my stock 14" steel wheels, and left the rear drums. The rear end is factory stock open 8" differential. No rolled fenders or tubbing. I'm keeping the 'original' look. I was thinking 205/70 R14 tires would be ideal. Do you concur? If not, which size(s) would you recommend? I prefer all 4 tires of equal size.
@FootageFactory
@FootageFactory 10 ай бұрын
Do you still want to stick with 14’s for an original look? The 15 inch tire size has much more of a selection. Do you want to go low profile and get 17’s or is that too modern for you? Tirerack.com 225/45r15 versus 225/50r15 will show you options. You can also go to tire size calculator to show how these sizes differ. Would you like me to make a video about you car and wheel/tire sizes?

For a stock 65 coupe or Fastback, the width, of the stock wheelhouse,at the vertical depression, in the top center of the wheelhouse, is 11 3/4" inches, to the inner edge, of the non rolled quarter/inner wheel well flange.. I've measured this, on my two completely unmodified 65 coupes.. That said, I'm building a 65 Fastback, that had reproduction wheelhouses and quarter skins, done before I bought the car. The wheelhouses are 3/4" of an narrower than stock !!! What an A hole who did the houses and quarters !!!!!! So I bought Vision wheels, Legend model 17"X8" Ford Mopar wheels, w/4.5" backspacing. 0 offset. They fit both my stock coupes, tight, but they fit, and don't rub, on unrolled rear wheel wells.. But absolutely don't fit, and completely rub, on that Fastback of mine.. I am now, going to try and "jack" out, those wheelhouses, then try to roll them, without ruining my painted car already... I'll let you know ..

@FootageFactory

Detroit mini tubs add 2.5 inches of width inside clearance to the tire/wheel. The MINImini tub I had done only added .5 of an inch because I didn’t relocate the subframe and what not. I’m out of the country fighting crime but as soon as I get back to the car I will document this.

What year mustang do you have? If you have a 65 it’ll be tight & more than likely require fender rolling, if you have a 67-68 I made a short video yesterday showing a 255/60R15 with a 15-7 wheel with a 4.5 backspacing which gives you a similar view to your wheel and tire setup. Though your setup will be slightly kicked out external and your thinner 17 tire will roll/compress in a way I simply cannot predict.
@barrykennedy9947
@barrykennedy9947 10 ай бұрын
65 17x8 with 4.75 backspace will fit a 235/45-17 in front and 255/45-17 in back with no fender rolling. Mine is lowered also with leaf springs. I do have a little on each side of the rear tire and may be able to go to 265. The inside probably the tightest side. This is widely known for a stock body mustang with stock 57 3/8 inch wide rear end. If any of these things are not stock this may not fit.
