Which would you pick. Flush stock-ish look is easy, here are the tire sizes Id go for, and correct Widebody tire size is tricky.

It's not what others think but what your imagination can come up with! That being said we like the classic look of the original wheel arch with the big and meaty tires and wheels tucked in. Best of both worlds! Great video with a lot of content that can be used!

Personally I like the flaired look, but it’s more expensive wheels and tires, more fabrication, has the highest probability of vehicle price reduction, especially since there’s a chance the job could be botched. But I just don’t know another way to get the power to the ground.

you actually can undo what you've done lol.. i got the TCI kit before there was one for tubb'd. i called them and got the parts that changed then cut and modified stuff. wasn't all that bad. im also considering flaring the car as well because 315's supposedly the biggest i can fit on the back. now shopping for a nice, factory'ish looking (aggressive street appearance) flares made of steel is the trick.

I agree with your thoughts. Love the 15s but the 16s are a great modern look with some meat on the tires but are limited. Don't worry too much about the HP and tires size. The point of a classic is to break the tires loose and make some noise.

You done a lot of research on this subject and a perfect video after doing all this is to put a fact video together in different parts. Since I do not plan on being a KZbinr. The info we all need to see is price and size. First on stock 65 mustangs. Then fender flares and finally tubing a 65 mustang. What I would like to know is. What is the most popular wheel size on the market today that offers the cheapest tires. I want to burn rubber without breaking the bank. The cheaper the better. Let’s face it. You can have a cool car but if you can’t drive it the way it is meant to be driven you just have a show car. I do know that around 26 or 27 inch tall is around max a stock 65 mustang will take. It seems 17 or 18 inch rim may offer the cheapest tires but that’s just doing a little tire shopping. Is this something you can tell me or maybe something you want to do a video on. Watching your video didn’t make the point clear enough. More upfront statistical information would be Awesome. Choice options would be a great video too. Yes you did this in your video but it was way to fast and not as clear as it could have been. Just my two cents. Other than that. Great job bringing more attention and info to this dilemma.

Actually I was thinking about doing a follow up video, maybe now is time for me to compile all the arguments I’ve been having with my friends. In some cases my situation is different than others bc my suspension is so custom I have almost 3 inches of adjustment in my rear end. Maybe I should start the video off from the point of view of price, but the price of the tire isn’t the only factor. Price of tire-price of wheel-price of fabricating-know how to execute fabrication, and this is depending how much show vs go you want. Have you seen my latest TKX video? My running gear is so stout I can push 700 hp (or more) if I want, only thing is do I have enough tire to handle it…….I guess this is what I should put in my video huh?!!

My car is a 66 with 18x11 all around. Maier 2.5 flares on rear and 2.5 maier wide body fenders. Very discreet. It's Mike's original flare set up. I did a mini mini tub without moving the rear frame wells in the rear but did move the wheel tub a bit. I've got 315s.. 6.5 backspacing with a 67/68 9" rear end (2inches wider than stock). With your tci ifs should be able to get 5.5-6" backspacing with the wider track width hub to hub and no upper ball joint to top of spindle issues. With stock suspension (taller spindle)... rear may have to use spacers... or move the inner wheel well (look up mustang depot mini tub) it's a few relief cuts and you push the wheel well to the frame. Should give you alot of room

@@FootageFactory Sorry I'm actually running 7.25 back spacing. I have cortex racing suspension with a wider track up front and half in spacers in rear to run square. EC-7 mustang wheels 450 each. My other wheels that I used for 5 years were 17x9.5 front with 6 bs and 17x10.5 rear with 6.8 bs (2004 17 fr500 rims about 580 set of 4) and I've also had the fr500s in 18s that may be best for you but I'm not sure why they are narrower in 18s... fronts are 18x9 (6" bs) and rears 18x10 (6.3" bs).. Also around 550 or so for set of 4. You can also look into Mike maiers wheels the LT-III 18x11 (6" of BS) 489 each if you like that style.. I've also seen a few "shelby style wheels (elenorish) on amaerican racing with custom BS on American racing site before...OR of course the custom forglines etc for 1k+ each... (it's been hard for me to justify that!) I've done alot of deep homework and have tried 3 out myself... I've been slowly widening my car with its suspension to use new mustang wheels because custom wheels are insanely expensive! Plus there is supposed to be benefits to widening track on these classic stangs! Appreciate the video and work you put into this! Hope this helps you!. If you don't need 18x11 square I would look into the fr500 in 18. Should be able to get 295 on rear and I've gotten alot of compliments for those wheels over the years. And they are cheap on ebay or craigslist! I went with gloss black with polished lip! Thr black and the lip make the wheels look smaller and fits better IMO. Still have them actually! Really hope this helps, Should get you started. If you need more rear width I fit 17x 10.5 with a 67 mustang (9" rear end (2"s wider) and doing that mustang depot ("mini/ mini tub) and maiers 2.5 flares that are subtle flares... the look is less bulgy like the ones you posted... although, the ones you posted look great at most angles and would make wheel fitment alot easier! I debated awhile on those! Reach out any time. If you want my contact or anything too. 👍

Wow, you're in the same boat I'm in!! I currently have 10" wide American racing Outlaw II (15's) wheels with MT 26X12 tires. Obviously they are too wide and every time I hit a bump they get chewed up just a little more. I refuse to go with skinny tires just so they fit the stock wheel wells and I also do not wish to get into the mini tub fabrication. I think I'm going to go with the Maier racing wide body (Roman) kit, as I am totally not a purist and LOVE the way it looks. But what size tire are they using on all the pics floating on the internet (you pictured some in you're vid) I too have spent much time trying to reverse engineer. I'm thinking just go with 18X10's with little to no offset and use spacers to get the exact fit? Any ideas and input would be helpful......

Alright. I can help you, in fact I’m midway through a new video where I’m mocking up wheel and tire sizes. With a 15 inch wheel 9 inches wide the widest tire you can run is a 295/50r15, but that tire size won’t fit on the mustang unless you tub it or flare it. The front you can get 155/80r15 tires and slap them on 15x5…15 inch wheels by 5 inch wide.

I didn’t catch that last part, must be a typo. 8.5 wide 15 inch wheels is a bit wide for 245’s but it will work. I recommend going a little thinner wheel for the beefy look, unless you’re dead set on those specs for a specific reason. Also, the 3.5 backspacing on 8.5 wide wheels might kick the wheels a little too far out.

I think a lot can be done on fairly narrow tires with tweaks to the suspension and weight distribution . During cruise nights and at drag strips I've seen tubbed out cars with 20 inch wide tires break loose and still not get traction. Then you look at something the "Little Squirt" Falcon here kzbin.info/www/bejne/aKvYY6KeZs15j6M running 10 second 1/4 miles on pretty narrow tires. It doesn't have that monster tire look and stance but seems to hook very well. I wish I had your TCP suspension on my 66. I say get some wheels/tires that comfortably fit without chopping the body and work on suspension for hooking up. Also what others have said don't overthink it and just have fun lighting them up.
