Legendary Wheel Shelby Look Aluminum Why 17 inch Wheels Make Sense Now Episode 395 Autorestomod
We install the 17x7 Legendary Billet GT9 wheel Part Number 1007-34CA from National Parts Depot onto our 1966 Mustang “Punisher”. The wheels are an awesome fit due to our use of the Dodgestange wheel fitment chart. We now have the chart on our web site: www.autorestomo.... We also talk about why these wheels make sense due to the price of tires on the market now.

Another issue is the late model cars with 19" & 20" used for daily driving is you hit a pothole, MN, you can bend or even crack your rims, people think I am nuts for wanting to goto 17" or 18" on my 2015 daily driven Mustang. Jeff & Cam thanks great content!!

7:56 Dodge was doing that with Challengers from the dealerships. They may still be doing it too. I saw one and went “Whoa, dodge branded white-letters?” And then was sorely disappointed upon further inspection.

Mile star Streetsteels are nice. Nothing beats the look of the meat on 15s, especially when running a 235/60-275/60 staggered setup. Ofcourse this is on a 65 Galaxie. 66 Mustang looks right with 15s, 16s are ok, but weird with larger

I just bought a couple of 15 inch tires the other day for my 93 F-150. You're right, the price keeps climbing as the inventory is being reduced and production is winding down on this size. This is starting to make me feel old, Jeff.

Once upon a time, I worked for Michelin Tire just up the road from where you are. Just to remind you (and I know you know), white walls and raised white letters weaken the sidewalls. My office was just down the way from the whitewall grinding area - a noisy, nasty, ugly deal.

You forgot the Futura GLS tires that are basically a direct copy of the Coopers... they run about $95-120 a tire depending on where you get them, and they come in 14 and 15".

I had no problems buying 235-15-60 BFG for my 70 Z28 stock 15x7 rims last summer.
@AutoRestoMod
@AutoRestoMod 5 жыл бұрын
Not the point. The point was the cost. A 235-60-15 with a speed rating of 119 mph cost more than a Goodyear 235-50-17 VR tire rated to 149 mph. The other point was that the manufacturers are dumping tire sizes. The 225-60-15 tire that was available on the Fox body Mustang, Camaro Z28 and Corvette has one example on Tire Rack: A Kumho. Years ago ALL the majors made a tire for that size. Now Tire Rack only shows one. The price is good at $88. But it is the only one they list. I used Tire Rack because they have the tires in stock and they have a wicked easy site to navigate.
@johnmilner7603
@johnmilner7603 5 жыл бұрын
It cost more because the 235-60-15 is no longer a common size used today and there is less demand for it. I did get it.

maybe its your location I looked on tire rack and found 4 225/60R15 tires. Three were from reputable Mfgs. and those three were H or V tires. Price varied from $85.09 - $103.98. OH BTW the brands were Cooper, Fuzion, General and Kumho. How is this expensive?
@AutoRestoMod
@AutoRestoMod 5 жыл бұрын
Might be. Tire Rack won't let you check price without a Zip Code. AND that is a 225/60R15. Different animal. That size was used on the 1985-93 Fox bodied GT Mustang, the same era Z28 Camaro and Corvette. So there are more modern vehicles that use the tire AND none of them are raise white letter tires.

A good 15": Uniroyal 225 60 15. Speed rating v (149mph) with optional y rating (186mph). Regular street tread (not the All Terrain / Mud / Snow tread). With a white tire pen they look great for a muscle car. 17" is the way though, as mentioned 15's are too expensive with a small selection of not great tyres (compared to the performance available in modern 17"+).

I'm about to receive my Wilwood disk brakes and MC today, but have a tough decision to make on shoes. I've got remake factory 14" mags on there that wont work, so I'm considering going 17" for reasons you suggest. Did you guys have to roll fenders to get the 17s to work? I dont even have a wood bat, the tools, or the stomach! to do that myself. Would really appreciate your advice on if you think I can go 17x7 with mods. Car is restored to original specs

I'm getting close on my 65 GT, and am in this EXACT dilemma, 15s, 16s, or 17s? 16s are a true witch hunt for a gen I Stang, leaning towards the 15inch Vision mags in gunmetal with the Coopers, but like the tires in 17, Legendary or the HKs are an option. Can you post the rim widths and backspacing you guys put on that car?

Most smaller vehicles today are 13/14/15s not many people are wanting track tires or these tires your describing , the common car guy wants to cruise and do few burn outs maybe. Thinking this guy is getting free 17 inch tires for his plugging lol
@AutoRestoMod

No free tires. I think you are missing the point. 17 inch wheels are the new performance wheel and tire. And I agree that a lot of guys stay with the 15s...BUT they are now equivalent in price to speed rated tires.

All you need for white walls is to have someone park it next to the curb. Always the right front tire though so it will require many tire rotations to get the set.

The Ohtsu is a offshoot of Falken Tires WHICH is owned by Sumitomo Rubber Industries of Japan. The brand Ohtsu has been around for 30 years. I'm not sure how I feel bout the tires, our Oh S**T comment was just for fun. Time will tell if we like them or hate them. I do agree that the BF Goodrich is now iconic and hard to move away from. BUT, the T/A radial is not made by BF Goodrich, it is in fact done by Coker Tire now. Confused yet? I sure am...
