nice man, ive done a few GTO body removals on later 70' and up cars, basically did the same thing, feels good that moment you slide the frame out from under. Getting ready to start on a 65 next, looking forward to seeing your progress, cheers, Sam.

great minds think alike! I Did my 64 ccutlass the exact same way. I turned my 4x4's into a dolly though with caster wheels.

I was just thinking this was the route to take on my chevelle......glad i came across yur page.....i would've heated up the kinked frame and found a few vertical jacks and with some more 2x4s or steel block and pressed out tge frame to straighten it out...doesnt look like it needs to be out that far...good luck on yur build

That was pretty slick getting that body off of the chassis without chains and hoists ! I want to this build ! Thanks for sharing !

I’m rebuilding a 36’ Desoto. This method is pretty cool.

That's an ingenious way to get the body off the frame, it's so simple! I don't know how I didn't figure this out myself. I've only done it with a two post lift, but even that was sketchier than this. We had to use the very edge of each foot to lift the body by the pinch welds, then jack up on each corner to move the feet in where they'd be safe.

Impressed with the way you took the frame out from underneath your GTO. I seen other ways that are much more sketchy than the way you did it good job.

I have a 65 cutlass and its running with a 6.0 and 4l80 swap. Was thinking of doing a body with a 64/65 chevelle. Thanks.

I did my chevelle in what's considered a 1.5 car garage you have a ton of space. I used come alongs connected to the rafters to lift the body off the frame and did the underside while it was in the air.

Body looks solid, frame has a little history to it.
@themiddleagedgoodtimers47682 жыл бұрын
Indeed it does!

That frame took a healthy hit or two in it's lifetime.

Absolutely need a rotisserie for this project. You will not be happy with the end results without one. I am nearly complete with my 65 GTO restoration and even with the rotisserie, I should have used frame/body stand offs more
@themiddleagedgoodtimers47682 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I did end up taking the car to a body shop with a rotisserie.

Rear spring spacers and air bags were typical 70 s add on to fit wider wheels that stick out past the fenders

Just found this, and am interested. But before I get "too" interested, would like to know what eng. and tranny will be installed?
@themiddleagedgoodtimers47682 жыл бұрын
Don't even worry about it Joe, just keep watching! Just kidding, it's going to be a twin turbo 6.0 LS with a TH400. The car will be a bit more drag oriented. I have a couple videos out right now which show my search for a good block/starting point.
@joequillun77902 жыл бұрын
@@themiddleagedgoodtimers4768 I guess that's the "Middle-aged" approach. I checked out your channel, and saw all them new trucks. I was afraid you were gunna go there. I'm more of the "Old-Aged", and would've preferred the traditional approach, (Pontiac V8, with a 4 speed), but I know the modern days are taking over these old classics. Oh well.

How much would you charge to do a restore to a 1966 4 door impala

We don't do customer cars at this time, just personal projects.

I did a frame off restomod on my 65 GTO. If you have any questions let me know. Long expensive journey ahead. Good luck.

Do you have any videos, also did you weld any bars in place to hold it from shifting?
@vernjohnson2891 Жыл бұрын
@@Hugohummer I didn't do any videos of my build. I didn't weld in any supports because the largest panel removed was the trunk pan. I had the shell on saw horses for welding purposes.
@Hugohummer Жыл бұрын
@@vernjohnson2891 yeah I had seen where a guy used metal beams and welded them so it don’t shift when you unbolt it and Jack it up. Wondering if can’t just do quick garage body off driveway spray down and new bushings back bolted up.
@vernjohnson2891 Жыл бұрын
@@Hugohummer I don't see why not. Unless your car is totally rust free the body mounting bolts won't want to back out easily.

Pinch weld

You might not like this but that frame is kinda junk you'd be better off finding a good solid straight frame. A ton of frames from 64-67 will fit perfectly.
