Restoration of a Rusty 1948 GMC. Full Rebuild From Start to Finish

Here is the final video in our 1948 GMC Truck restoration series. Stay tuned to the end for the grand reveal! This video is a summary of the entire rebuild process. We started with an extremely rusty and dented classic pickup. After an engine swap and extensive rust and dent repair, it's finally looking like a truck again!

For sure, the 'one hour of work for one minute of video' theory needs to be put to the test. That would make a great video in and of itself. Many times I have shared your dream, that of buying a hopeless rusty pile, and flipping it for a huge loss. But we are so much more than that, we are the elite. Those of us who not only lose money, but waste copious amounts of hours planning, labor, and supplies to do so. Sometimes nothing in life compares with the joy of watching the taillights of the last year of our life's work going away down the street for the last time. And squeezing that satisfying, tiny little lump of folded cash and dreaming of the future. Meanwhile, I think I'd be loading the remains of that blue cab up on a trailer and take it back to Scott and try for at least a partial refund....

I have been following the rehab of the GMC and enjoyed it thoroughly. My uncle who was an truck driver all his life, told me a story once when he was at a car/truck factory. Who the manufacturer was I forget. He was waiting for his load to be taken off so he had some time to kill. He toured the final assembly area where they fitted the doors to the cabs. He noticed that when the doors came from the stamping area they weren't curved enough to fit the door opening well. The fellas showed him how they put the curve into the doors. One of the men braced the top of the door with his arms outstretched against the top of the window frame. The other workman had a huge wooden mallet which he proceeded to bash the inside of the door. It all looked so primitive and brutal. But it got the desired result. The door fit the opening perfectly. Or as close to perfect as they could manage. I guess when you hit enough doors into submission you get pretty good at it. They also showed how they take twist out the doors. Equally brutal.

Wow, she actually looks like a solid and complete '48 GMC again! I recall watching Scott's first video on the truck when it was still sitting in that field. Had a feeling it was worth being saved despite the naysayers and how rough it truly was back then, so I posted a comment pointing out the five window option being pretty rare and how the truck could be used for donor metal. Next thing I know, it ends up here! I know it was an insane project to take on, but thanks for proving me right, Kyle. Not only that, but thanks for this video series! I've grown to respect how much work goes into such a project, and your skillset and knowledge really shines through in every video. I'm also glad to see the truck is going to a new owner who'll appreciate it. Would love to see how the truck turns out once they're done with her. I wholeheartedly agree that it's way more cool and interesting to see an old truck being put back into service as-is instead of being turned into a hotrod or show queen, but to each his own. Also, can't help but remark about how the seasons change from the start of the video to the end. Makes one realize and appreciate how much time went into this project.
