1965 VW Truck Sells at Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas 2010

Milne Auto Restoration's 1965 VW Truck and camper was featured on SPEED-TV twice on Sept. 23, 2010 - the first day of the 2010 Barrett-Jackson Auction in Las Vegas.

At 2:00 "they couldn't haul a whole lot of weight". Not true. These trucks were 3/4 ton rated standard and some later models came in 1 ton. Love how these guys are experts on everything automotive and just spit out facts without really knowing what they are talking about.

thanks for the information. i like the splities as well. the 50's to the 60's are my favorite years for the beetle, the sixties had the style down with the bumpers and tail lights (newer ones look too big) . i like the back up hand-crank starter on some of the older ones too.

You can't find a restorable hulk for that price. Somebody stole that thing.

You are correct on the power. This vehicle only had a 36 hp motor when it was new however the buses and trucks like the one in this auction had gear reduction boxes that gave them a very low gear ratio which made if possible to haul heavier loads with such a low hp motor. I had a 61 that we hauled 1500 lbs with multiple times. As for a favorite I prefer the split screen buses and trucks. I have always been partial to the Deluxe models.

i don't know what their rating is but, if it has a flat-four aircooled vw motor. i can't imagine it would be all that powerful. its a beautiful vw nonetheless . im kinda jealous of the person who bought this. btw whats your fav. model of vw beetle?
