Melody Makers are fine guitars. I've owned a '62 for many years.

I agree! Some people find the pick ups to be a little shrill, but that usually comes from a bad amplifier. I’m playing this one through a hand wired Marshall blues breaker and it sounds awesome.

I have one of those! But it only has the one pickup it's still all original and I've just gotten into playing a while back and now I'm ready to get this old thing set up so I'll have 2 guitars to play, I could only make out the first 3 serial numbers as 570

Hi there, just a thought... This MM is from '66 !! The digits on the back do give some informations ! First number might be tech code, and the first digit of the other number might give the year... Beginning with 6. On mine, I can read the pots who are from 67, and the first digit of that second number is..."7" ! Hihaaa !!! Cheers

I appreciate the suggestions! However, the serial numbers are generally sequential, although not always. During the 60s there was no “code“ Hidden in the numbers to tell you the year, date, batch, etc. They just put a number on the guitar. The purpose really wasn’t so much to give the date, but to give it its own identifying number in case of loss or theft. The pots on this one are all covered in the date code areas, so that’s no help. But you may well be right this this is a 1966. I just can’t say anything tentatively. Thankfully, they are all pretty much the same spec from the mid 60s up to late 1969 so it doesn’t make that big of a difference.
