Nice combo for sound. All SG Specials and JR's from the 60's sound great. Not sure about the 'Made in Japan' open back tuners.

This is a great video, and I'm really glad to see you producing quality KZbin content. My quick suggestion is that you consider some background music while you're explaining this or that to the camera. Other than that, this is aces!

I thought that '67 was the year where the pick guard changed from the the smaller style (like on your example) to the larger style that goes fully around the pick-up and bridge?

Awesome example. On a side note, I wonder how many different versions of neck joint Gibson tried on SG’s 😆

One thing I never understood about the TV finishes: If it was meant to make guitars show up better on television...why was it a finish offered on student level guitars? Was there a lot of student level guitarists doing television gigs back then? You would expect that guitarists playing on TV would have professional level Les Pauls. Ps. Subscribed and great vids!

Really great insight here and a great question that I'm not able to answer with any authority. If I was going to guess, it may have been a little marketing trick to get young players to buy what they thought should make them popular. They would certainly need a good guitar that would look good on TV because of course they were going to make it big!
@CAGDESIGNDEVELOPMENT5 жыл бұрын
@@truevintageguitar I think you're right. Great marketing! God, I wish i had an extra several thousand laying around for that SG TV. White SGs with p-90s are just the best

@@truevintageguitar Also I assume easier and more cost effective to crank out a lot of them at once in the same finish.

I never believed the story about it being a fi ish for television as it was a student guitar and professional musician would have standard or custom

I'm very skeptical of the bridges they put on Les Paul Jr.'s and similar guitars. With the SG Jr. at least you could swap it out for a tune-o-matic if you wanted to intonate for a different string gauge. The one on the Les Paul Jr. where it holds the string and has the fixed saddles just seems like too big of a compromise for intonation and (I would assume) string tension. Are you supposed to buy a different bridge for different string gauges or is this just made for people who don't care if their guitar isn't quite in tune?

@johnshannon98734 жыл бұрын
Can you please tell me what the bridge is on this? Thanks
@truevintageguitar4 жыл бұрын
Sure! This is the original wrap tail style bridge often called the lightning bolt bridge because of the compensated line on the top.
@johnshannon98734 жыл бұрын
@@truevintageguitar Thank you . I'm modifying an SG Jr (adding the short vibrola and an ebony block like the Gibson Brian Ray model). However, I don't think the lightning bolt will work on this because my guitar has the offset studs. I appreciate you quick reply !
@truevintageguitar4 жыл бұрын
@@johnshannon9873 Ah yes, it probably won't work with offset studs. Is your guitar vintage? You might consider this bridge: www.musiccitybridge.com/listing/replacement-gibson-wrap-around-tailpiece-stud-finder-polished-nickel/5603631

No no no... the story about TV yellow looking good on Television is disproven by the fact that they also had a TV White finish. What TV means is Translucent Varnish, period. Oh and smoke filled bars aren't the cause of nitro finishes yellowing, no that's a combination of oxygen and UV light and nothing more.
