The family goes to Dorney Park! Hey I think I see Carol and Earl. Those rides all look so familiar, especially those cars and the helicopters.

Back than it was only 50 cents to park your car & free to enter park, "The good old days"!! I remember my first time at Dorney Park it was 1969. Thanks for posting this timeless treasure!!

WOW! Do I ever feel old now. Those young kids who were probably 4 years old in that movie are not 54 today. I had just returned from USAF overseas duty in 66. Yikes!

I love this! You inspired me to upload the films my dad took in August 1979 and August 1980:

My dad filmed this with an 8mm camera. I transferred the film to DVD. It's a hobby of mine, but I also transfer film for a fee.

I loved Dorney as a kid! I haven't been to Dorney since about the early 90's. My grandparents used to take me and my sister once or twice every summer. The kiddie coaster was next to the House of Glass which used to scare me, because I was always afraid you would go in and wouldn't be able to get back out. Does anyone remember riding the train and it would go through a tunnel that had light up pictures on the wall? Great memories. Looking forward to seeing more clips.

I miss the old Dorney Park too. I worked there operating a ride from 1976-1981. The ticket system was nice and I just loved the park in those days. Cars could even drive thru it on Dorney Park Road. The old coaster was my favorite to ride, along with the Flying Bobs and Iceberg. I believe the FB & Iceberg may have burned in their fire in 1983. I got season passes just to go to Wildwater Kingdom (the wave pool) from 1985-1991. Oh, the good old days!!

Absolutely beautiful memories. I was born in '67 but probably started going around 3 years old; I too miss the the way the park was, but then again I suppose maybe we all miss being so young... Remember the cop with the "stop/go" sign? I used to go to the stock car races, and remember being able to hear them from our home on Tilghman Street. Thanks for posting this - I think these types of things highlight the joy KZbin creates!

Amusement park historians hate the current Dorney Park because when it was bought by Cedar Fair in the early 1990s (owners of Cedar Point in Ohio), they got rid of all of Dorney's special old rides such as Journey TO The center of The Earth, the last operating 1920s Cuddle-Up (a Tea-Cup like ride), etc. As said by DrNickRiviera995, "Thank god for Knoebels" which keeps all of the old rides.

I have very fond memories of Dorney Park from the 1960's and 1970's, esp. Alfundo, the old carousel, the train, & Journey to the Center of the Earth. I stayed at a hotel directly across from the park 12/07. It's like some vulgar, overgrown monster. Thanks for posting your movie.

Yes , thanks for the classicness. I was born in 1972 and was going here yearly from the late 70's-late 80's.I prefer the old versus the new.A lot of things were so much better back in then .Food especially at the parks back then was so delicious keep it classic.

I don't know why but this video has gotten more responses than any of my uploads. A funny story, I sent this to a cousin who was in the video, he happened to be having old friends over for dinner, friends they hadn't seen in forever. When they watched the video, their old friends were in it too and they all had a big laugh. Then theys ent it to friends who were in it and then to others. I know I have more DP film so I'll have to upload it.

@CServis Thanks for this. Just finished reading a book about Dorney Park and really missing the place. I used to go when I was a kid (in the 60's) and then rediscovered it in the late 70's early 80's.

Dorney Park from this era was a smaller, yes, but a far friendlier park. The grainy images portrayed on this video synchronize nicely with the memories of my own family spending precious Summer afternoons here that wound into the twilight and closing time. Thinking back on it I realize that my parents were heroic in taking their five sons, (never losing so much as one child!) to wander the acreage at Dorney. In my mind, Heaven looks as this.

They had a car ride like they have now (since 1994). And back then you could walk under the coaster. Robert Plarr, and Robert (Bob) F. Ott and his son Bob helped lead Dorney Park, Plarr passed 1966 and his son Stephen 1967, and Ott ran the park from 1967-May 1985, selling his interest to Harris Weinstein who sold to Cedar Fair July, 1992. Ott passed away Mar. 4, 2007 and his wife Sally (Plarr) Ott Feb. 14, 2007. His son Bob and Weinstein retired to Florida.

It is the theme park experience wraped up in celophane which prevents you from touching anything with emotion and feeling. I mean - HECK Dorney has some amazing rides but the food, games, people and atmosphere are weighed down with corporate drearyness bereft of any good ol' amusement park joy.

Who are Carol & Earl? I live 5 minutes away from the park all my life, (I am 47 now) my Mother's name is Carol and she had a boyfriend named Earl. Hmmmmm

You are exactly right- vulgar and gross now. Won't find a local person there ever. Great memories though of the way it used to be.
