I am now doing my 4th 1966 F100/250 EcoBoost Engine Swap. Kinda Wanted to do a GEN3 Coyote 10R80 Swap and actually bought the 2018 Donor F150 but ended up fixing the truck. Since Then I have purchased a 1 of 5 450HP 510TQ Raptor Crate Engines and am Installing it in My 1966 F100 Short Bed along with a 10 Speed Automatic. This will be a Engine Transmission Swap only with maybe adding hidden Cruise Control but truck will maintain stock appearance inside and out.

Robby Gee, LOL! I have a few stock type trucks and not much for wiring! It was a lot of work but soooo worth it. Saved a junker NOBODY else would have restored and turned it into the best driver ever. Safely tow 10,000 lbs, did great on AutoCross, 1/4 Mile or cruising all day long at 80+ mph, Light weight and the large 14" brakes with ABS and the braking was nothing short of Fantastic! Comfortable, Quiet & smooth with great MPG. Pretty hard to beat overall for amt of $$ spent.

Great job building this truck! I also have a 1966 F-100. My Dad and a friend of ours and I built it. It sits on a 1996 F-150 Frame. Has a Fuel Injected 302, Power Lumbar bench seat, we grafted in the 1996 firewall and it also has the dash from the '96. Fully operating AC, gauges, etc. It's very dependable and economical. Gets 20+ MPG and the engine and tranny only have 65,000 miles. It was allot of fabrication and work. Took us about 3 years of working on it a couple of days per week. Great job with yours.

Major UPDATE: EcoBoost Engine Swap 2 Starts today! I have been seeing a lot of comments as to why did you change this or that or not leave that stock. With this truck all the electronics needed to be kept in tact in order for the engine to start & run. I have owned more restored vehicles than I could count. But, For all of the fans here that would be interested in a more stock truck with a 3.5L EcoBoost, That starts today! I have picked up a 2015 EcoBoost Engine, 6R80 automatic. This one will be a 4 wheel drive! 4x2 for starting out and getting truck on road then change to a 4x4. 1) Body and frame will be kept Stock 2) The Interior will be kept stock 3) If you walked around truck, looked inside it will be Stock, Until You looked under the hood! How does that sound for EcoBoost Engine Swap 2? In Favor Raise your hand. SUBSCRIBE!
@randysrestoration8 жыл бұрын
At the time I started this project there was not a tuner on planet earth who could have done what you are saying. As far as a standalone system there was only one in the world I could find at a cost of 10-12k. As far as I know Megasquirt still today is not cabable of doing a ecoboost standalone because of the direct injection. By the way this engine was running a year ago. Ford Performance came out with control pack this year but its for Manual transmission only. 4yrs ago I was willing to spend the hours vs 12k I did not have. If you followed the project history You would also know I have another EcoBoost swap in the works. It should be running before end of March. Most likely in just 2 weeks from now. So yes today its possible to change things up, 4 years ago it was not. The only standalone system 3-4 years ago took away the variable cam timing also. A few places tried to make it work like the '51 Ford at Honest Charley's from what I heard it was a flop.

+EcoBoost EngineSwap I love it. Are you going to make any changes to the first one with some of the newer technologies available or is it just full speed ahead on the next one?
@randysrestoration8 жыл бұрын
EcoProject 1 will have all technology that a new F150 has except for air bags. EcoProject 2 will be complete opposite. 100% Stock appearing. Only enough electronics to make the engine and trans operate as it should. Hoping I can have Eco2 done by end of march. Then full speed on Eco1. I also have another '66 that is getting a 427 SIde Oiler. Owned it 16 years now.

I think everyone needs to see this for what it is. He didn't take a nice old f100 and make it modern. He took a clapped put f100 and put a new f150 under it. the old truck was probably a year from being crushed. Plus, it is his build. You didn't commission it or pay for it. I think it is damn nice. I have a 94 f150 with a 302. I just replaced the engine in it. I plan on passing it down to my son. They just don't have as much character anymore.

+Sir Mutton Chops , The stock wheels now on the truck are strictly for testing purposes to make sure all works. Once the Box is finished and painted it will have a proper looking more stock looking wheel. I think the 18" wheels are also a bit large but they have to be a minimum of 18" to clear the large brakes. more in store keep checking back! Hint: Wheels are being custom made.

Lots of modern swaps into old chassis require the dash for obd2 ports and is much cheaper then going after market, harness modules and ports are all ready from the donnar car so use what you got, swapping something in the factory never designed it for is hard, simple shit you over look ends up not fitting and needs fabrication, using as much factory components makes it all easier then trying to go aftermarket. you know the factory components will fit and work as opposed to universal hardware that might need bugs worked out.

found this truck on the forums. glad a found videos. great job. when more custom swap parts come around, I plan on transplanting one into my 96 ranger
@randysrestoration9 жыл бұрын
+Michaels_World , You can now buy the engine swap harness from Ford Performance for the 3.5L EcoSwap. Drop it in using a 5 or 6 spd transmission. I bought a '96 Ranger new In January of 1996 swapped in a SuperCharged 5.0. A pretty fast truck back in its day.
@demon127929 жыл бұрын
+EcoBoost EngineSwap I can imagine. I had a 5.0 to put in mine when the 3.0 died. engine got scrapped cause I left it at a friends. now I'm looking into building a ranger sized f150. all the towing capability smaller truck.

I'm all for putting a modern drive train under an old truck but that retro interior is just too beautiful to me to replace with anything else. At the same time it's very impressive you were able to do it and of course the old interior might have been in poor shape for all I know.
@randysrestoration5 жыл бұрын
It was all about doing it myself on a total budget. I used the seats from donor. Since I used cab floor from donor it was much easier too. Cost to properly restore a 1966 seat is 750-1000.00. I currently have (7) Different 1966 Trucks. 3 of them will have FE v-8's no fun in having them all the same.

Sam bo, I am doing another 1966 F250 Swap this time a factory Ranger (bucket seats) and the interior will be like it left factory all stock except for actual gauges. It will maintain stock cluster portion

what did you do, exactly? You put the new engine on the old truck or you put the old truck's body over the chassis of the new one?
@randysrestoration4 жыл бұрын
I bought a 1966 F250 for 300.00 that was destined for the scrap yard, bought a donor truck with 6430 miles on it. I then bought a new frame from Ford and used all donor truck suspension steering brakes and full electronics. I took the floor and quiet steel firewall from the donor truck and installed it into the '66 Cab, I also installed the complete dash and interior from the donor truck. I wanted something as reliable as a new truck but with looks of the old. This was all done on a very very limited budget. I was able to sell enough parts left over to pay for well over 50% of the donor truck. I also purchased a new box/bed floor for a 2013-14 F150 and installed it into the '66 box raising the floor 6" so I could lower body down over frame to make it appear lower yet have full suspension travel as in a new truck. The donor truck floor was also raised to allow cab to sit lower on frame. The truck was a 129" Wheel Base the closest Wheel Base frame I could buy was 126" so I moved the cab forward 1" to better center the front tires in wheel openings then took off 2" from front of box to get proper wheel base. I used full electronics from donor so I had electronic steering, Full ABS brakes, Trailer sway control, anti roll, anti-skid, Satellite Radio, Cruise, Sync etc. Absolutely fantastic truck to drive. Put on 11,000 miles in the first few months of it being on road. I had less than 25% of what it would have cost to buy a new truck and had something that would not depreciate. That's the basic story. Lots of video's for more details.

Wow! it's quite the Frankenstein :-) I thought it was an F-350, at least that's what it looks like in the video.

@randysrestoration5 жыл бұрын
Since then bought 2 more. 400.00 1966 F100 4x4 for 600.00 plus another but a bunch more $$. Those days are about over now unless one gets very lucky. Problem is if I fix them up I never get my money back. Sounds cheap but in the long run not worth it until the values rise on nice done ones. Good thing its just a hobby! A very expensive hobby.

they are out there! A week ago I saw a lot full of them. Must have been 50 of them minimum. Did not ask if any were for sale. Some were just parts some were complete. Have a relative who wants to fix his bronco it was bumped in front way back in 1972. (its a 1966) Sitting ever since.

Awesome start. I found this vid while researching a 3.5 ecoboost swap into a 2006 Ranger. Yours is much less expensive than mine, but wow, great results.

Thanks! Check out the 2nd Eco Swap called Eco2. Another 1966 F250 but with a 2015 3.5 Eco. Engine and trans swap only. Keeping rest of truck stock. Am adding 2017 F250 wheels because of cheap cost but will keep the original wheels too depending on what show or use is. Interior and exterior will appear stock.

Thanks! It was a roller coaster ride getting it all to work but well worth it in the end! Eco2 the other 1966 F250 this one a Ranger (factory bucket seats) Is up next. The chassis is complete hoping to start on Body/Paint by November 1st. Its opposite of this one. It will be 3.5 Eco and 6R80 Swap only keeping everything else stock 1966 with exception of a nice front brake upgrade. Also keeping the Dana 60 rear but upgraded it to current year standards. Trying to finish up on my 427 FE powered '66 F100 now. Have owned it going on 19 yrs its high time I finish it.

@Firebird-ru7je8 жыл бұрын
loved the truck my question is why use the modern dash instead of just fabricating the old dash to fit the new speedometer
@randysrestoration8 жыл бұрын
A few reasons. I used the HVAC along with all electronics from the Donor F150. Goal was to have Trailer Sway Control, Anti Roll, Anti Skid, Full Traction Control, Sync etc all working. But the biggie was using the Huge HVAC system. I simply did not have the funds to start buying aftermarket systems. The truck also has EPAS so I had to use the Donor F150 column. I chose to use what I had avail at no cost. The column has a sensor that works with the control for veh YAW. Hill decent etc. My 2nd Eco '66 Truck will use stock dash with a custom Dakota Digital Gauge package that will fit the stock cluster. I also have a 2015 cluster that could easily be fitted to '66 dash opening. (Eco 2)
@randysrestoration8 жыл бұрын
I want one of my trucks to have all the creature comforts! Complete late model interior including dash, seats, carpet, stereo. It would have been way out of my price range to add any of that aftermarket. Kind of a attempt to do it on the cheap but still make it all fit well. I can have 3 done very nice '66 trucks for the cost of a new one. Or, Build 2 for the amount of depreciation a new one would have in a couple years time. Eco 2 will be on even a tighter budget but still should be nice enough.
@randysrestoration8 жыл бұрын
I missed saying it also has working PATS. Which at the time I had truck running there was no way to turn it off. Since then of course for a few $$ one can turn off PATS. Even Eco 2 having a 2015 3.5 eco has PATS. That was much more difficult to make work. Since I have gotten it running now PATS can be turned off on the 2015 too. At the time it was not a option.

@randysrestoration5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment! I built the entire truck for less than what it would have cost to drop in a 5.0 Crate engine. 300.00 for truck and 3250.00 for a 6000 mile donor truck less 1500-2000 in parts sold from donor truck. My daily driver now is a '18 F150 Gen3 Coyote would love to do a swap with one into one of my other '66 Trucks but time & $ not to mention the energy needed.
