One of the best sounds ever.. She Runs.. every time I start my Swaped 318 in my 68 Dart.. it's still makes me happy.. daily driver.. 4 years since swap.. and oh man. That BBD whistle..

if thats a fresh rebuild, you need to keep it running at 2,000-2,500 for 20-25 minutes to break in the lifters to the cam. if its just a transplant or a paint job rebuild, its great, love them 273's. cheep easy dependable and they respond to performance upgrades very nicely. good job!!!!!!

You could try actually pumping the gas. It's really not reasonable to expect those old V8s to start without having to pump the gas at least a few times. Also, I see snow on the ground there. Those old Dodges were notoriously cold-blooded, which again, means pump that gas, man. Not a bad start for not pumping the gas though. I'm actually surprised it started at all.

OK, I could overlook the lime green engine paint... but I have a hard time excusing the 2-barrel. The 273 is a great little engine though in 4-barrel trim. The Edelbrock .420" lift Performer cam is close to the 4-barrel Charger/Commando's cam (.425" lift). The Weiand 8022 "Stealth" manifold and AFB 625 cfm would really make it run.

The commando is so different a engine than a standard 273 you can't just slap a 4bbl carb on it and call it 4 bbl trim, sounds picky but I hate when guy's do just that and call it a 4bbl engine

@@inquiringmind4511 Correctamundo! Compression on the Charger/Commando 273 was 10.5:1, and it had heavier valve springs. Cam was .425" lift, if I remember correctly, as opposed to the .390" something of the stock 2-bbl 273 and 318. Also it had a dual point distributor and instead of taking N size plugs, it took J11Y's. The exhaust was single, not dual exhaust, with a "resonator" after the muffler, though the diameter of the single exhaust pipe was larger than used on the 273 2-bbl (and 318). I did test drive both my Charger 273 Dart GT and a similar Dart GT with a 318 2-bbl, and the Charger 273 was a better performer.
