In 1966 this Thunderbird was a status symbol, it meant "you made it!" My Uncle had a Thunderbird like this, only in white & it had A/C. This car was "The Bomb!". Looking forward to see more!

No. You'd "made it" if you could afford a Corvette. That's still true today.

A real beauty! But noisy. I had a '68 LTD with the 390, you could hardly hear it run. Especially inside. These are marvelous cars.
@heartlandfarmer27203 жыл бұрын
Lucky you, I always wanted a '68 LTD 390 or 428. I love the looks of those, the hidden headlights are so cool on those cars. I had the cheaper '68 Galaxie 302 and it too was extremely smooth riding and super quiet.

These had a way better looking interior interior then the bullet bird. But the exterior body on the bullet bird is nicer. But love this bird. Damn clean.

My grandmother who at the time was about 65-66 y/o had one of these new back in 1966. Except hers was burnt orange with the creamish landau roof and I believe it had the 427 or 429 V8 (correct me on this one). All the belles & whistles it had. She had for 3 years and they traded it in for a 1969 Olds Delta 88 . I wish I had that car !!! They were pretty common in the Detroit area between the Ford employees buying them , car collectors and enthusiasts. BTW she had 3 birds total. A 1961 , 1963 and the 1966. Granny was a hot rodder!!!! I guess.

This is the one with the curved back seat. My Uncle had one and the rear was really amazing. You could almost "face" the other passenger.

Showing the engine great. showing the body cool. showing the seats front and back etc. nice. but I wish just one of you guys would do close-ups on the gauges, and the levers and what they did, because they look right out of an aircraft, and it would be nice to know and see. also you forgot the little turn signal indicator lights mounted on top of the fender. those too are a way cool touch on that era of cars.

Not sure if it was the same exact model year, his was convertible, but my best friend and I rolled thru high school with a T-Bird. Alway like the early 60’s T-Birds.

There are so many comments here about the lack of AC. To the purist who prioritized performance, they didn't want the extra weight of the AC components. Or they didn't want to spend the extra money as it was a costly option. Or, they didn't live in a climate where air conditioning was used all that much.

I'm interested in how the PCV system was done. How was it done on the inside of the air cleaner lid? I'm assuming this engine had a draft tube system prior to the PCV set-up being installed.

It’s such a shame that the American automakers had such beautiful designs in the 60’s but in a mere 10 years, the auto designs were just horrible.

The only thing that would make this car perfect on the interior is for the shifter to be on the console instead of the column. Otherwise it's a beautiful car. I had a pastor when I was a kid who always drove T-Birds. He didn't switch until the late 70's when they lost that heavy feel that classic cars have. He ended up switching to an Eldorado. lol A Lutheran pastor in an Eldorado. Hilarious.

@@robertplatts1548 Those side moldings didn’t come from the factory. Most were dealer installed and added to the price. They may help protect the car in some small way but they spoil the looks.

@Marque I agree. These guys have really nice cars and really awful videos...replete with corny used car salesman BS. They would be well served to watch the Maple Motors videos by Nick there in Tennesee. People nowadays are completely turned off by the used car lingo deceptiveness, but are attracted to honesty. I would rather buy a lesser car that I know well than a better car that I feel has been misrepresented. There are Coyote vids where the presenter says the words, "No rust anywhere" while at the same time clearly showing rust bubbles through the paint, or inside the rear quarters in the trunk. This T-Bird, however, is awesome. 20g is a fair price for sure.
@efandmk33823 жыл бұрын
Thunderbirds were never a respected performance car. A Ford 390 V8 was the same engine you'd find in a Galaxie. The larger available engine was the same engine you'd find in a Lincoln. It was a "chick" car, frankly.
