I had one once in 1969 (12th grade) all black and chrome. My father bought it for me, from my cousin who had out grown it. It was fun to drive and my wife now of 47 years remembers me on it and thought I looked so cool. I enlisted in the Navy right out of high school so my younger brother took ownership. He trashed it and I never got to ride it again. Thanks for posting and bringing back good memories.

This brings back great memories. My first bike when I was 16 back in 1972. I had forgotten about the shift pattern. To think I used same shifting on my race bikes in recent years.

These old bikes have character. The shift pattern is weird to get used to if you have only ridden modern bikes.

Love the Twin Jet. Bought my self a candy red one this year. My son told me that i was crazy to buy a 2-stroke. After his first ride on it he was lost. So now there"s 2 of them now. Greetings from the Netherlands

Thats awesome! Do they still make them as new bikes there in the Netherlands? I know that some times manufacturers buy the tooling to make old bikes like this. These are really fun bikes

Whoa, thanks so much for sharing and narrating your ride. Brings back fond memories. I also had a 1966 Twin Jet 100, bought it when I was 15 1/2. Would ride it across the Golden Gate Bridge into San Francisco (often quite windy on a small bike!). Loved that bike. Managed to hit 65mph downwind a few times. Never told my parents. I'm now 68.

That is awesome! These old bikes have so much character to them. The new ones are so reliable, and flawless they are almost boring! I didn't grow up with old bikes but appreciate how much character they have. The exhaust note is so unique and loud!
@tauncfester30224 жыл бұрын
@@RacerRed The loud doesn't equal fast, there were quieter 2 stroke singles of 100 cc that were as fast or faster.

We rented them new, very fun to ride and a big step up from our Honda S50

I am rebuilding a Yl2c the trailmaster 100. This made me really want another piston. I'm going to keep an eye out for a yl1 project.

This was the first bike I owned. I was 19 years old. Powder blue. Top speed was about 55 or so.

Thats such a unique motorcycle. I need to get it running again, now. I let the gas sit for a bit too long.

Found one today for $100. All there. Decent condition. The extra engine and carburetor were great

That was my first bike. Easy to control, then again I was 130 pounds soaking wet. Could cruise at 60 mph all day long. On one tank of gas......

Very cool bike. I always wanted to collect oddball motorcycles but it's a good thing I didn't, I'd never know when to stop. Besides my wife just wouldn't understand.

When I was married I had to watch what I put in my garage as well lol. I actually saved a monthly allowance to buy my YZ250, while she spent hers on daily coffee lol. I have always found a way to ride and to get cool bikes :)

This ride was slow. Main thing is to protect your head. The likelihood of a crash at speed was insanely low.

would you recommend this motorcycle for a 6'6 beginner rider?
@RacerRed5 жыл бұрын
Lord Deedih not at all. Everything about this bike will teach you bad habits if you aren’t already a rider. Also, it requires tons of maintenance.

You're YL1 Sort of reminds me of my dad's 1960's something Bridgestone 175 Twin 2-stroke. I think it had oil injection as well. I had a Yamaha RD400 Twin 2-stroke. Selling it was the dumbest thing I ever did. I was young and extremely dumb.
@RacerRed6 жыл бұрын
I regret selling a bike or two as well. I had a kx125 that was completely built from the ground up by a local racer. I made money on the sale, but that bike was priceless.

Really no different to shift than the YG5-T or the Honda Trail 90. I owned a TwinJet 100, it was a fun bike but not really much more power than the 1969 Yamaha LT5-A and heavier bike. My '71 Suzuki TS90 was faster.

Those old bikes have character! They definitely aren't refined like bikes these days though
