Sure you could buy something new but it won't be anywhere near as cool! I read the magazine article about this very camper right before watching the video and the restoration must have been a true labor of love! The article states that they haven't found anyone to restore the shine to the anodized aluminum exterior. If anyone is interested, there's a place near Gibsonburg, Ohio that restores and updates old Airstream and similar campers. I don't know how they do it, but when they're finished, the aluminum shines like a mirror. I just made an offer on a 1966 Avion. I hope the seller accepts it because it'll go perfectly with the 1970 GMC that's in my shop right now.

Nice...:) I wonder if anyone has ever taken one of these and mounted it to a trailer. And then equipped it out?

I have a 1965 Avion C-10 that is mounted on a heavy duty trailer.

Yes, but I believe the best adaptation is mounting it on a tool bed. The added storage and expandability improves the options for extended stays.

I do not advise removing a camper off of the truck because in the back country the soil is not level, it can be washed out in a flash flood very easily, and also the lower part of the camper attachment is exposed to elements such as more Frost exedra. Be very careful in the higher elevations, because storms can come in very easily and very fast, and therefore trapping you into the deep forest for a whole season. There's always a freak storms, either a flash flood or early snow, which can cripple the area from removing your truck and camper. In the desert also, flash floods can cause severe gulches in the sand, trapping you into a sand area or a severe wind storm can blow sand dunes all over the place. Keep the truck Anchored to the camper, w/ floor units/bolts. Also, it's extremely difficult to maneuver in the backcountry, because low branches can interfere, and one severe wind storm, can also crippled dirt roads , move rock boulder, down tree limbs, tumbleweeds Exedra that's why a lot of people have a winch on the front and the rear other units, so they can try to get the units out of the country. RV’s we're just not suited for deep boondocking. I've also found even the trucks , 4 x 4, with extreme backland terrains as optional equipment, can break down very easily, and also blow tire, leaving the unit breached and non operational. Many boondockers will carry spare tire on the roof mounted carriers. Be careful of Mt lions and bears, as they can break camper windows and vent, ding the hell out of the unit and ashamed to mention, camping men are raped by foresters at gun pt and I have seen my share of dead caucus of human remains, as campers have been eaten alive by bob cats. I enjoy a double seated cab, remove the back seat and this area makes great storage pad, plus remove the factory bed and install an after market utility bed with lockable lockers, great for storing small outdoor wares for camping. Utility bad can be purchased used, repainted and last lifetime. One Window shutter manufacturer, makes light weight steel window shutters for the interior. Almost impossible to punch out from the exterior inward, incase some thief’s are trying to break out windows. Make sure the window screen are copper screens for boondocking, so if swarm of bees or insects attact the window or screen, they can not get in. Boondockingin deep in forests, remember no lights at night in camper attachment and all windows must be closed to keep swarms from coming in. Good idea to wrap the engine compartment on the truck w/ insect cloth, to stop swarms from nesting inside the generator/ or truck engine. email: CerritosHO@hotmail.com | 1. Overhead bunk is too hot, or too cold, and very noisy in the rain, hard to support adults for intimate sharing. . It's also very hard to get down for the elderly. It's a useless area. 2. All interior coverings must be leather covered and laminate wood like floor coverings. 3. Dinette is not a very good mattress for adults sleeping, is too lumpy. Im 6’6”, so sleep on floor, it is the easiest for tall owners. 4. Wish roof solar collectors and AC was more flush mounted, as they get banged while driving. 5. Dry bath needs toilet hose and glass shower door w/ built-in weggie, plus instant hot water tank. 6. Window covers should be waterproof/ light proof. Wish patio awning button was on the interior and had a screen panels & floor. 7. Interior LED lites are not elegant or hi tech enough, compared to 2016 cars.. Side door entry is better for towing, easier to egress/ingress. 8. Needs recessed docking lites and recessed clearance lites. 9. Needs hI tech alarm and glass shattering alarm. Windows need to be more private reflective glass for security from intruders. 10. Micro-wave is ample, forget the stove/ oven. Needs icemaker on priv water tank for safe consumption.. Electric jacks are not convenient enough, espec for 4x4 dualies. 11. Campers Designers need to look at: Airstream / Prevost/Yacht designers, as campers are becoming more and more used as a detached live-in sm. trailer, boondocking, aside from being truck mounted. 12. I have owned fiberglass truck camper for 50 Yr and driven more then 500,000K miles. Own 1970 Ford American Truck Camper, ( SC Fiberglass gel) made exclus by Ford. email: CerritosHO@hotmail.com
