I'm 57yo and I've been wishing for a modern Chevelle for over a decade now. I am, by far, partial to the 1970 which I think was easily the best looking model. Modernizing those original designs destroys them. They were pure art and built to last. Modern cars are pure cost-reduced plastic. That said, it still didn't stop me from buying a new '19 Challenger R/T Scat Pack 392 Widebody. I really like it and it has every modern convenience but it's still not the same as an old-school original. My nostalgia is always in high gear since I used to drive my dad's '55 Chevy and my own first car was a '70 Chevelle.

I normally like what you do, but I’m on the fence with this one. Also, just a point of reference, the C pillar on the 68-69 is more of an arc’d C. The pillar you drew was that of the 70-72 which looks like a D with slightly sharp, choppy lines. Great work as always though.

The rear seems confused. Looks like a spacey version of a front end. I feel it was left as boring (modern). Seems like everyone is out of money or ideas by the time they get to the back of cars today. Also not a fan of the sail panel (Cpost). The arc and lack of parallel lines takes from the original character. Front fenders seem bloated and a bit boring.

It’s interesting how almost everyone agrees the 68-72 Dodge Charger is such an amazing body style. You can see how GM was first with that coke bottle style and C pillar design on the Chevelle in 1966.
@Nomah19793 жыл бұрын
Dodge was successful with the Challenger because they weren't afraid to put a straight line on a car, that mixed with the wide stance and the way they did the headlights makes for a pretty nice looking car. It also doesn't hurt that they are responsible for one of the best engines ever to go in a muscle car

Just a tip, Chevy usually goes with round quad tip exhaust. Dodge Challenger and Charger have those vacuum cleaner tips. Also, to me, the front/back windows on the side of the new render look almost exactly like modern Challenger. I know there are also a few Camaros with a single round tip on each side instead of the double.

Neither, I would choose a 1970 Chevelle! It has perfect proportions! 😁 Jokes aside, I prefer the 1969. I love muscle cars with a coupe or fastback look much more than a sedan look. Great video, I thought you were going to lose the 1967 style for a moment but you really brought it back around in the end! I think you should have kept the parallel lines in the C pillar that you loved so much, and maybe brought the back window out to be flush with it, but overall it looks great and I can see the 1967 influence in it, especially those tail lights!

Nice, it has character. Could you design the body of a mid-engine compact car? Something like a Civic inspired by Koenigsegg Gemera built around a small boxer engine under the trunk floor? The engine not visible from outside, but leaving space for the trunk above it. So a combo of perfect handling and everyday practicality with 5 seats and a trunk + frunk. Basically the perfect first car 😉

I'm sorry, I love your idea of resurrecting the Chevelle SS, I've been saying it for years, but I would've chosen the 70 SS because of the iconic reputation of that year. It was in Jack Reacher and John Wick and many other movies. Now resurrecting a boxy muscle car like this I'd choose a 67 GTO over a 67 Chevelle. I also believe the Challenger outsold the Camaro and Mustang because of the Hemi and not the styling. The styling and reputation and options all play a factor but it's the Hemi everyone wants! Now, earlier tonight I saw a design for a 57 Chevy designed for a new production vehicle, it was a drawing, chopped top, fins, no bumpers, single headlights on each side, dual exhaust under each fin. The thing is, if Chevy did bring back the Chevelle SS Ford would have to bring back the Torino Cobra Jet to compete with the Challenger and Chevelle. It'd be nice if Buick brought back the GSX but they'd probably go to the 80's and resurrect the GNX and if they did Chevy would probably resurrect the Monte Carlo. It'd be nice if the Big Three brought back full size 70's vans with V-8's that people could customize, but not with vinyl wraps, proper hand painted murals by the local Picasso!

@kelvinfalkner56004 жыл бұрын
Nice design, just wish it didn’t re-interpret some key things around the Chevelle. It just needs to reproduce it using a modern approach. For example the back lighting... no need to make it more racy with angles... keep the lines the exact same. It is our means for connection and nostalgia with the original car. That is what the Challenger does well it looks so similar that you can feel the original cars essence. The charger does what you have done here in a new interpretation and for that reason it evokes less nostalgia. But overall great design. However I do prefer the 69 Chevelle to the 67. It is a style thing. I have just always loved the art of a curvy car over there boxy counterparts.
@Roberto-gp3yx4 жыл бұрын
Seeing this video makes me certain that car designers at Chevrolet got a mesh of the 67/69 chevelle cars to create the 2015 Malibu model. However, i believe instead of bringing the holden model and rebadging it as an SS model was a bad decision. They should have made the 2015 Malibu more aggressive and muscle car appearance. I suggest doing a redesign of the 2015 Malibu to make it more SS a without being so round in the front
