This race was filmed in Mexico…. central Valey 559 (chevelle) racing the 661 (ctsv). 1967 chevelle SS with 454 stroked to 496 no spray vs Cadillac CTSV both on slicks. Chevelle had no prep and decided he didnt need to do any tuning or practice runs and still wins by a car. Good race for funsies

Great race, gotta love real street cars racing. I'm old school but I do respect these young guys for keeping on. 1968 firebird, offenhauser dual tunnel ram, two 850 holley dbl pumper sitting on top of a 468 BBC, 12.5 to 1 pistons, rectangle port heads, muncie 4 speed, hurst ram rod shifter with reverse lockout. Stock posi gm 10 bolt. That was my poison circa 1979. I miss that car, she was a beast. Nice video. 👍👍🏁🏁

I was fortunate enough to own three Chevelles at one time. A 65, 66, and 67. The older one cost me $400 and come from an auction and had a sbc in it. The 66 was a SS and had a big block 396 in it and cost me $520 for it. The 67 SS was my favorite and it cost me $950. It had a 396 with a performance intake and 650cfm Holly a 3/4 race cam headers and all the safety equipmentEnded up using the 66 for bracket and later SS/A with a totally reworked engine with a cross ram intake with 2 850cfm carbs, bored stroked and balanced, heads, headers, roller cam, Liberty tranny, custom built ten bolt rear end. We changed the color from maroon to canary yellow with graphics of Tweety and Sylvester and it was christened with the name Chick-A-Boom and of course it had lettering on the rear panel that said Don't Ya Just Love It. This will be a good indication of the time we were racing. Many weekends spent sleeping in the back of a station wagon or pickup that was used for a tow vehicle. Racing Memorial Day weekend and getting a quick listen to the Indy 500 to see who was winning. We were able to get low 8s high 7s out of it on a good day. Pulled a 6.84 down at St Louis and the nationals. I met many of today's race team owners and legends. Was on TJ seniors team for a year. Was in Pamona when Kenny Bernstein run clear off the end of the track and ended up on the County road. His chutes failed to unload when he pulled the handles. Was at Roland Delongs last trip. And met Mickey Thompson before he was murdered. At Gateway I remember staying at the same hotel Grumpy Jenkins when his care hauler was stolen and all his tools spare parts and spare engine was taken. Thank goodness his pro stock Vega was at the track. Seen a lot of the U.S. three days at a time. My favorite track was at Mile High Speedway because of the slowdown end of track was uphill.

Hey guys pretty cool race and I used to think the same way in reading your comments when I was drag racing a Camaro with a very well built 377 SBC in it the engine was very well balanced but I had a LOT of money into it, it dynoed at 525 hp at the crank. As time went on I had always owned a fast car usually a 911 Porsche or a 928 etc. these cars were fast NOT quick then I was due for a new car and had my performance parameters that I wanted to meet and I ended up buying an 2008 Z06 Corvette with the 427 SBC and a 6 speed manual. I changed out some induction pieces put in new injectors and exhaust the car was making an honest 570 hp, would run an 11.70 Quarter, run 0 to 60 3.7 seconds and top out at 204 MPH! Oh and if driven around the speed limits posted it got 23 mpg Now I have a 2016 Z06 did the (abnormal) changes with new exhaust then down loaded the computer data off the car and sent it to a tuner out of state and after telling him what I wanted out of the car he sent me back the software to be reloaded on my Vette. Its now pushing 714 HP, will run a 0 to 60 in 3 sec flat, there are guys with NO engine modes run the quarter in high 10 sec. I have a new top speed of 207 mph and it will run a road course as fast as any other stock Porsche or Ferrari. This engine is Supercharged (factory) and has a launch control like nothing I have ever seen before! Like I said I still love the sound of open headers and big long duration cam, but if you want a car that will do just about EVERYTHING faster than you ever dreamed possible, THAT is NOT going to come from and old car, NO matter how much we like them!
@Knocktfout

I used to haul cars as a trucker. I was at a Mercedes dealer in Pleasant Grove, UT delivering an SLR McLaren. At the time, there were only about 6 in the country. An enclosed hauler was there to deliver a car too. But he had to take a '66 Jag out first to get the other car. Too old school, old guys standing there looking at something like $2 million worth of automobiles and without saying a word beforehand, we looked at each other and said, "I'd rather have the Jag!" It was so funny 'cause we were thinking the same thing. Old Skool is ALWAYS cooler and better. Even if the Chevelle had not won, I'd still rather drive/own it. Most of the kids in high school had those, along with all the other muscle cars you see at Barret-Jackson etc. People are paying crazy money for the nostalgia and memories. I wish to hell I'd never sold my '69 Corvette roadster. Even with the leaking valve cover gaskets, it was a keeper. What was I thinking??!!! Ooiy vay!

My totally bone stock 67 Chevelle SS396 4-speed weighed 3609 lbs. This one probably was closer to 3300 lbs. Maybe less. That CTS-V was probably over 4000 pounds. That is a lot of weight difference to make up.
