@@MrJ183 - One thing I really detest is people trying to put words in my mouth! I never even hinted at such a preposterous setup! I love V8s, grew up with them and always loved that sound of raw power they produce. But in case you haven't noticed, ICEs will be just a memory in not too many years, and you can either go with the show or be left behind! Other than not producing that beautiful sound, they are lighter, more compact and every bit as powerful as the V8s they compete with on the track. I can't begin to tell you how much I enjoyed watching the Ford GTs TT V6 kick the ever loving asses of the C7R Corvettes and BMW M8s with their not so mighty V8s. Oh, it also will smoke the '05 and '06 Ford GT, with a 550 HP supercharged V8, in every category - acceleration, handling and top speed. Technology can be a magnificent thing, can't it! Lol At Le Mans, the all time race record speed was set in 1988 by a little 2.8 liter twin turbo V6 Renault prototype @ 252mph. Absolutely a lot of advancements in technology over the years contribute to greater speed with fewer cylinders.

I saw one race at the GT40 Reunion at Watkins Glen back in '88. There was another one from Holman and Moody there. But the better story is Harry Heinl driving one of these to work in Chicago, or selling them and Mk2's equippped with heaters and cassette players for street use. Look it up.

@Theodore Hall - Reminds me when Shelby and Ford were done with the Daytona Coupe. After I believe was the first one built, had returned from setting several records at Bonneville, the car looked horrible - covered with salt, a smashed headlight and other damage. Shelby asked the guys in his shop if anyone would like it for $800. They just laughed at him! It's a miracle that the car survives to this day! 🤠

@alec Hodson - The MK IV was powered by a 427 Ford tunnel port V8 with (2) 4 bbl carburetors; essentially a NASCAR engine with some modifications to make it suitable for long endurance racing. It produced around 500 HP and propelled the car to 216 MPH at Le Mans.

Would people stop calling a Mk IV a GT40? The Mk IV is NOT a GT40. Never was. It was designed by Ford in Dearborn and constructed by Kar Kraft. It was 100% American made and used Ford aerospace technology including the aluminum honeycomb monocoque. It has zero connection to a GT40. In fact, it was only about 39" high as well. Ford never referred to any of the cars-GT40, Mk II or Mk IV as GT40s. They were simply called, "Ford GTs". I suggest you change the title of this video. BTW, this is J9, which the Agapiou brothers owned. They had worked with Carroll Shelby on the Cobras, Daytonas and GT program.

@@Loulovesspeed first car was a 68 mustang coupe in red w/ black vinyl top and keystone cragger chrome wheels...in 1997. i felt like the king of the world that first summer with her and my girlfriend in a tye dye bikini top that was a size too small for her double d's , riding shotgun. i built that lil 289 with my brother. i loved that engine .it just didn't love my back.she had a real self destructive nature to her. probably unmet emotional needs as a child. ford did rush production and release.

Then you and your Brother "built it up". Obviously, I have no idea what you and your Brother's qualifications are with regards to engine modifications, or even just rebuilding. I do know that I owned a '66 Mustang 289 and put 134,000 miles on it before trading it in and I had no issues whatsoever with it. For the record, I drove it hard but did not drive it abusively . The 289 was one of the most reliable V8 engines Ford ever built, and I could find nothing that says it was "rushed into production." Sorry, but your experience with that iconic engine does not speak for the millions sold and raced very effectively! 🤠 👍

@A Dingman - Sorry Sport, while Shelby American did some work on the MK IV, Ford Engineers DESIGNED the car! Kar- Kraft was heavily involved in the construction of the chassis and other aspects of the car and Holman Moody made that 427 side oiler run like a bear. Shelby American was far more involved in the Mk II.
