I had a 1968 340S and loved it. Mine was a 4 speed and came with Firestone Wide Ovals. They lasted less than 2000 miles as they were unbelted, just bias ply. It was a pretty fast car-could beat 383 Road Runners. I still miss that car.

You are correct the 225 slant six was offered for ‘67 because we had one brand new then with three on the tree. 145 bhp. The other door light was under the dash. Our 67 Barracuda fastback( my Dads) was midnight blue exterior and interior metal, with white interior and front buckets. 67 was the first year they had hazard lights, and dual pole master cylinder. It was also the only year to not have turn signal indicators fender mounted, from 67-69. Also the first year for the smaller rear window and the first year of the redesigned fastback deemed as Italian styling. I want this car but it looks like it’s already gone.

One of my favorite Mopar wish I could find another one... Mom ordered one brand new 340 formula S In 1968 so that was going to be my car when I graduated... Actually took loving care of that car change the oil wax it washed it and check the tires at age 10 ... From age 10 to 12 I knew Where the Spare key was , So I had a lot of test drives around the block.. About 1970 I had warned mom of a bad intersection and a couple months later sure enough she totaled the car right there Period did I mention sometimes I see the future... What a shame I would probably still own that car today🙏🙏

My first car was a 68 Formula S fastback. Med. green with black bee stripe across the rear. White and dark green inside, bucket seats. 150 m.p.h speedometer. 340 H.P automatic with sure-grip rear. One of the best parts other than how easy it would do doughnuts was how when you stayed out partying all weekend, you could lay down the trunk panel, lay down the rear seat. throw in a blanket and sleep in the back. My favorite Barracuda. Simply beautiful and well balanced. The standard engine for the 1967 Barracuda was the 225 CID slant six or 273 V8. The 170 CID slant six was not offered on the Barracuda. The 225 CID six was not taken off the table for 1967. I consulted two great sources for information. (1) THE STANDARD CATALOG OF CHRYSLER 1924 to 1990 by John Lee, First Edition. (2) THE PLYMOUTH AND DeSOTO STORY by Don Butler, Editing and Design by George Dammann. Copyright by Crestline Publishing Co. You might want to invest in various printed texts regarding the history of cars. There are many! While my memory is sound and my knowledge adequate, my extensive printed library is often my go to source for specific details. I'd start with the STANDARD CATALOGUE OF AMERICAN CARS and build from there. You're doing great. Each video is an improvement over the previous one. Keep up the good work. You have my support, Jay!

The ultimate deciding factor was it wasn’t in the book of collectible cars it was underneath the listing from 67 to69 did say the engine was available but it wasn’t available in 67 it was available and 66 and 68 why it wasn’t I have no idea some sources said it was available other sources said it wasn’t.. that book has been pretty spot on about most everything so I decided to just go with that book

An update regarding the availability of the slant six in the 1967 Barracuda. Curbside Classics posted an article on August 31, 2023 that covered the 1967 Plymouth Barracuda. They reprinted a road test article done by "Car Life" magazine in Mach of 1967. CL tested two 1967 Barracudas: a hardtop equipped with the standard 225 CID slant six and a fastback equipped with the 273 CID 4-bbl V8. Some sources can be inaccurate or misleading. In this case, a publication missed the boat. Many other reputable sources list the six: factory sales literature confirms its availability. Also "The Standard Catalog of Chrysler", "The Standard Catalog of American Cars" and "The Plymouth DeSoto Story". There was, indeed, a six offered from the factory for the 1967 Barracuda.

Nice that you pointed out the body lines. To me the second gen Barracudas are the best looking. This one is a great looking example with the wide oval tires. That really makes the look. I have a 69 Fastback myself. 4spd, 225 slant six. A combo available in the Netherlands where it was built new. 6.95 bias ply on 14 by 5.5 on mine.

Hey Jay, this beautiful Barracuda is a real time capsule!!! It looks like a brand new car. I've never seen a Barracuda with a bench seat before. That partition between the trunk & the area behind the seat along with the back seat fold down so you can put long items in the trunk. The 383 Commando is powerful & a gas guzzler too!!! The after market tach mounted on the dash looks kinda goofy to me but other than that the car is perfect!!! Thanks for sharing another exciting video!!! 👍👍🙂

This excellent presentation has sparked, for me at least, a dilemma. The problem surrounds the availability of the 225 CID slant six power plant in the 1967 Barracuda. Several excellent sources state the 225 CID WAS available (see my post below). The 170 CID slant six was NOT offered on the 1967 Barracuda. There is a You Tube video displaying a 1967 Barracuda with the 225 slant six. Owner claims it is original. Other sources say (as Jay stated) the 225 CID slant six was not offered for 1967! So, my question is: was the slant six offered from the factory in the 1967 Barracuda? There should be a definitive answer to this question. If anyone has the answer, I'd be more than interested. Mustang and Camaro both offered 6-cylinder engines in 1967. I can't believe the Barracuda skipped the six in 1967.

I thought it was the weirdest thing in the world why wouldn’t they offer a six cylinder and 67 I ended up not putting it in the episode because the complete book of collectible car said it wasn’t an option.. welcome to the world of conflicting information it’s crazy I almost put it in there anyway but then I was afraid that people were gonna say that the 225 was never offered.. Glad you like this episode =)

I would rather have a "67 Mustang due to the fact that the '67 Barracuda doesn't lend it's self well to power steering when it comes to big blocks. Factory air conditioning looks aftermarket on this car and not many came with power brakes, not to mention disks. "67 Mustangs had many that did have power brakes and power steering. The aftermarket parts market are way more numerous for the mustang thus finding parts is a cinch. This being said, I have a '67 Barracuda. I could of had my choice of Mustangs but that was the issue, in that there are so many of them wherever you go. Nothing is really special about them compared to the Barracuda and because of that they look quite commonplace and ordinary. This body style is quite rare looks very special. I have a conv. in turquois with a white top and a black interior. I had to put power disks in it for my own sanity but came with power steering and a 273 auto, bucket seats with console. I always thought that the formula came with 150 speedos and buckets but I'm sure that anything could be changed.

By the way, all 1964-1969 Barracuda Fastback(s) had a big flip down door in the forward section of the trunk, that opened into the the rear of the sport deck behind the rear seat, and the rear seat would also fold down for extra cargo, for items such as snow skis, water skis, golf clubs, fishing rods and thing of that nature. There was also a 1965 1966 option on the 273 known in the Dodge Dart as the Super Stock D-Dart package. It came with wilder cam aluminum intake a larger four barrel and fender well headers. I'm sure the same option or parts was available for Barracudas but I don't know what Plymouth called it. The D- Dart package was factored by NHRA at 325hp horsepower.

Back in the days, My 'Cuda had a 273 with four barrel, dual point, and factor headers. Also tranny was auto on column. My cousin got it impounded and did not have money to get out of storage. It was bought by another individual and motor was removed. Got the car in Pawoque, NM back around 1973. That was one cool ride and if I ever own another vehicle, it would be the 67 Cuda. I would turn it back as how the first cuda I ever bought. oh by the way only gave $300 for this ride and do truly miss the ride. It was very dependable. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😎🙊🙉🙈😎

To response to question. The ride was smooth and when needed performance it was always their without a strain or hitting pedal. The combo was well built and with the back seat folded down level. There was enough room to lay down in, with your legs comfortably and with padding under one's body it was almost as perfect to a great bed.
