yea Greg I would keep the roof on to straighten it. Push up in sections with a porta power or jack get the inner panels more straight before cutting off the roof. Once you get it back closer into shape it will be easier to get the new parts to line up.

I think I would want to take out those trashy side windows on it, use normal VW ones. I would restore it back to a basic camper, using the best salvageable parts that you have. These vehicles were very simple in their design, so reconstructing the chassis shouldn’t be too bad. The non-bent parts look solid enough. It will ride again ! - definitely worth saving.

It’s called a porta power. Use a torch to heat the metal as you reshape the metal. I would try to push it back in place before cutting it off to replace. That will help after and give you less work in lining up posts.

Back then (very early 90s), I acquired a 65 23 window (roller) for 500, a 66 camper (driver) for 500 and a 57 11 window for 600 (drove home from dealer lot). What a wonder decade that was.😭

I would recommend making it as straight and watertight as possible and then using some Sweet Patina products.🤙🏼

Could you rig up some kind of shoring post or jack to push out the roof. Support the jack or post with a beam sticking out of both doors, supported by cement blocks on either side so the blocks take the pressure and not the floor of the bus.

Leave it as a camper but add the either pop up roof or dormobile top(might be difficult to find).

Demop, in the USA, many panels were converted to campers...then Kombi's were converted. My 67 sundial was a kombi (no upper side vents)....Eccles wrote a book and there were over 20 companies converting these !

Man, that must have been a nice one before the tree fell! I'm both surprised and not surprised that it didn't budge with the tractor... There's some pretty deep valleys and I'm guessing they are locked in because of the damage at the perimeter... I know you've got a plan, but I'd spend an hour on the frame machine getting it pulled square before I cut the roof off. I bet you'd get it 95% that way. BUT, with that roof you've got, maybe it will be easier to just start hackin'!!!
