To separate the case halves I've used a wood chisel with good success. Tap all around the case gasket slow and easy. Usually on the second time around they'll start to come apart. The wedge shape of the chisel makes a nice even job of dividing the transmission.

Do you have any idea why one of these transmissions wouldn't grab in high gear? All it does is grind in high and won't grab.

Hello, the inner teeth of the 3rd slide gear are probably worn down to a point that it will stay engaged. You can do a couple quick tests to confirm: 1) with the engine off and no load on the trans, shift the trans into 3rd, you should feel a solid "click" of the shifter, if so, the detent is probably not the issue 2) Once you rule out the detent to the best of your abilities, start the tractor up, put it 3rd and try to drive away only this time physically hold the sifter in 3rd with your hand, if you feel the shifter wanting to "pop" out its most likely the gear...

I have a 4 speed uni with leaking wheel seals . Can they be installed without splitting the case ? If so poke and pick it out to remove ?

Hello, i have a 1974 wheel horse c`120, 8 speed tractor, the seals are leaking on rear end, replaced axle seals then tried to change the brake hub sealwhich i removed the bolt washer but the hub won't come off, the shaft, dose it just pull off or am i missing something? is there a link for doing this??? help, also the input shaft seal proceedjure if pooible, thanks

I have the same model and it come off with just a little force. I think that I pushed a screw driver between the hub and the case, (no hammering required) being careful to keep the hub parallel with the case. It didn't have a set screw as the input pully did.

The B1816 Torrington bear that you refer to, is it the proper size for a 75 wheel horse?

How did you do the axle seals?

Hello, make sure there are no sharp edges or burs on the axle, lightly oil the shaft end and the seal, carefully slide the seal over the axle end to the case, from here you maybe able to start setting the seal with your fingers, once you have it started in the case take a correct size punch and "lightly" I mean "lightly" tap in a circular motion around the seal to ever slowly seat it in the case. You can accomplish the same if you have a large enough socket that will go over the axle end and deep enough to reach the case. The big thing is not to distort the seal when tapping it in. Just go slow it will work. Thank you!

Without sounding like a jerk... it could be anything, LOL... but if the shifter arm moves into each other gear I would think it will be an issue with the 2/3 shift fork
