The 68-70 AMX remains to this day as one of the most beautiful American cars ever built. And if you owned one with the 390 and 4 speed in a big bad color and the Go-Pak option you had yourself one hell of a fast and rare car.

Had a 1970 Javelin for many years...my first car. Bought it in 74' from old man at dealership...had all papers. I painted an eagle across the white hood put red stripes on it. Stood out of other cars. I worked on the base commissary and MPs would salute the eagle as I came in. Lol

This man knows his cars he made the Barrett Jackson auction worth watching. I went to see him when he came up to Vancouver Canada for a car auction at the Pacific Coliseum the cars there were nothing to get excited about but Steve made it very entertaining sharing his knowledge of the cars on the block THANKS STEVE keep them coming .....

There never was a "Big Block" 290,304,343,360,390, and 401 V8 engine, there all same casting other then internal changes, to make things simple AMC casted the C.I. in each side of the block :)
@Ray56z2 жыл бұрын
Steve said 'Big Dog' not big block. There wasn't a 304 available in '68-weren't released until '70, and the 304 was never available in the AMX. Steve may have gotten '68 and '69 inverted when speaking of the available size motors-'69 only had the 3 available. '70 only had the 360 and 390 with far better heads than the '68 and '69 of the same motors. I owned all 3 years at the same time, '70 was my favorite.

I think that is actually the Mark Donahue Javelin rear spoiler on that AMX , the group 19 optional one was an adjustable aerofoil type.

Very underestimated car .............. I actually raced one years ago I bought from Pete Peterson . Well-known Pete's Patriot . The car was capable easily running 10.70 but could go way faster . The weak point was the tires . Later on they would go in the 10.40s current or they can go on the nines . Because of aftermarket parts that are allowed . The downside was they had to run the Fairlane thunderbolt . Which was one bad ass car. Capable of stupid speeds .... They own ss/c .. The go package that you spoke of was a performance option then for AMC .

Back in my early 20's my friends all had muscle cars. My buddy Pete had a 1970 AMX and raced my friend Jerry's 1969 383 Magnum Roadrunner. The AMX lost 3 out of 3. Then Pete raced my friend Willy's 1970 Nova and got beaten worse than the by the Roadrunner. Months later, another friend Michael, bought a 1969 396 Chevelle and yep... you guessed it...the Chevelle beat the AMX so bad that Pete wouldn't race him again! A month later Pete sold his AMX and bought a 1969 Pontiac Firebird with a 400 ci engine. He eventually got rematches with the Nova and Roadrunner, beating the Nova and tying the Roadrunner (they only raced once as the RR had some type of front-end problem). Fate prevented the Chevelle and Firebird from eventually racing as our friend Michael passed away after a brief illness. Those were great hot rod days!

Nice story. I had a 68 OHC 4.9 litre 6cyl firebird with a 70 GTO 400 in it when I bought it and raced a 1968 or 9 Road Runner with a 383. We were pretty even for 20 ft before I pulled away. He asked me what I had, and told him while we were in the race. I then raced a shit box black primer Nova 68-72 don't know the year, and he blew by me with a 6 cylinder 3 or 4 speed. I was shocked, and never raced again seriously from that embarrassing moment when I was 18. Everything is a sleeper

i know a guy who would smoke the hell out of novas and fords with his amx. mopars are tough to beat. but the 390 he had could rev to 8k and coupled to a t10, he would kick ass out the gate

Back in the day I don't remember seeing an orange one but this one looks good, different in a good way. One of my friend's had a blue one with engine mods and a 4 speed and it was impressive. Wasn't many other AMC's around with V8's that I rode in to compare it to a stock one. I do remember that his had a lot of torque at low rpm's. There is probably an AMC lover out there that can't live without this one. It should sell quick unless it has a Barrett-Jackson (crazy) price tag.

Yeah the AMC model 20 rear end is heavy duty, until you put your foot in it and the splines on the hubs strip out. Had it happen on 3 amc products and was a common problem if you built some ponies into your block.
