1968 Dalesman 125, dragged from a barn and quickly prepared for long distance trials.
Will it (and I) survive the Flacon Motor Club 75th anniversary trial?
Special thanks to Architectural Heritage Ltd. I took them up on their kind offer and even got a nice cup of tea to warm up!

This was a sad episode, but I do like watching LDTs (might even have a go when I get my Innova on the road!). With this sort of content, how could I not subscribe to this channel. Thanks for a good ‘un. Les

Barrel is retrievable try PJME in the West Midlands. I had my RS125 barrel resleeved by them 👍

What a Racket! I love 2 strokes but thats too busy.....oh it died 😞 Any info on these off road trials?

I think the phone mic made it sound worse, but yes it's not the quietest! Have a look at The Motor Cycling Club website, they have info on the bigger events on there.

Any idea what caused the ring failure? Metal fatigue or not enough oil in the petrol-oil mix? 🤔

No obvious signs of anything, so I think just fatigue. I was running a 25:1 mix, so should have had plenty of lubrication.

Sounded like a chain saw going up the hill. I had a Sprite trials bike with a Villiers 200cc motor - temperamental is the word that comes to mind. Was it worth repairing ?

I wish Dalesman had used Villiers engines, at least I could get parts easily for those!

Hi Kevin. Is yours the Puch engine too? If so, RBO Puch in Austria or Wiser Puch, again in Austria.

Yes. 4 speed. Puch engine. I can't find any info on the engine number.

@@kevinmoses1605 yes, that's the same as mine. If you have a look on RBO, they have a better website for finding the parts. Wiser is sometimes cheaper though. The engine is from a Puch M125.

Hi, Interesting video but was a bit disappointed that it broke down on you. I’ve got a couple questions re the Dalesman if you don’t mind. I’m building what I believe is a 1969 model but I can’t find a vin number anywhere on the bike, where is yours stamped and does it follow the format of the Puch engine number ? I would love to get mine road registered when it’s finished. I also saw that you mentioned a replacement tank, mine is WAY beyond repair and I’m wondering where you sourced yours ? Thanks Graeme

Hi Graeme. Yes, I was disappointed as well! But it's sorted now. New video coming soon. I was lucky enough to have the frame number stamped into the headstock on mine, but it's not always the case as I understand. It's the engine number with a 1 in front of it. The tank I got lucky. I still have the original slimmer tank, but I picked up this larger one locally from a chap who had some parts for sale.

Thanks so much for getting back in touch its really appreciated and looking forward to seeing your Dalesman back in action. I have about 5 layers of paint on the headstock to be stripped off, so fingers crossed there’s some sort of number under there 😉 Please let me know if you ever decide to sell your old tank as I may be interested. You know you can get those barrels re Nicasil plated don’t you? There is a firm called Langcourt who are excellent at it. I wonder if all those little dots at the top of your barrel are designed to retain oil?

Yes, though I don't know at what cost. Unfortunately it's made a pretty deep score in the bore too, so it would need a fair rebore.

@@whatsintheworkshop4478 if the score is really deep they weld it up, machine it back, then re plate it. I used to working in a motocross breakers/shop and we used to send loads to Langcourt, I don’t know what their prices are now but they were always pretty reasonable from memory.
