Thanks Steve, bringing back great memories. I had the 68 Coronet R/T in the early 70's. It was B5 blue with the 440 and 4 speed. My cousin had a 69 Roadrunner and his brother had a 67 GTX. those were the days.😊

My father drag raced semi-pro and was a mechanic at a Dodge dealer. He bought a new 1967 R/T with a 440 and air conditioning for a street car and replaced his 1964 Max Wedge race car with a new 1968 R/T with a 426 Street Hemi the following year. I got to drive the 67 440 to school in the 1970's. The B-body 440 and 426 Hemi cars got two half leaves on the passenger side rear spring with manual transmission from 67 to 71, but the 66 Hemi and 72 440 with manual transmission got the same leaf springs as the automatic cars. The 1969 383 B-bodies with manual transmissions got one half leaf on both the left and right sides, but the 68 383 with manual transmission, got the standard V-8 rear springs the automatic 383's got. I'm not sure the 69 half leaves made it to 70 or 71 manual 383's and may have been one year only. The 440 and 426 Challengers and Barracudas all got two half leaves on the passenger side, automatic and manual transmissions.

"G-60s" was the size tire for a fat meat you could stuff in the rear of B bodies in 60s nomenclature- without mods - some airshocks for a slight rake gave you the extra jimmies though. Lunchbox boys would have to use ugly shackles, lol. 👀

Let's go all the way with the VIN for the win: W for Coronet, S for Special price class (R/T), 23 for two door hard top, L for 440 V8 with four barrel, high performance, 8 for 1968 model year, G for St. Louis (Fenton), MO assembly and the rest is the production sequence. Yes, code "E" Dark Blue exterior paint. The Fenton, MO plant had a North (opened in 1959) and South (opened in 1966) side to it and they were both gone by 2009, and razed by 2011. The plant also assembled minivans from 1987 to 1995.

Beautiful car. I had the 68 Charger in dark green with the white and green interior. I never noticed that the console in the Coronet was slightly different. The Charger had ridges that ran left to right for the length of the console where this one has more of a brushed stainless look. Just tonight my brother had said "I bet you wish you had kept that one". Well, thank you Capt. Obvious. Your scatpack tattoo is my only tie pin. I've had it for 30 years or so, picked up at a flea market.

Was a '68 RR fan but my first car as a kid in '72 and only one I could afford bagging groceries until the NEW 'Cuda was a '68 Coronet 500 coupe which if Im not wrong is more rare than these R/Ts, it was the equal of Belvedere Satellite I think. It had blacked out grill with 500 badge in center, blacked out tail panel with chrome accents like the R/T but without R/T badging and the scallops on the sides unlike the R/T had chrome or aluminum inserts for extra bling. It had split bench and weird optional lighting inside..little luxury bits. I put the Rallye wheels on that when you could get them used for nothing. I MISS that car more than the overplayed E bodies -my 360-4 last year 'Cuda (with aforementioned Rallye Wheels of course) was fun really straight line only, kind of bulky heavy crude cars not fun to drive in CT backwoods where a Corolla could kill you. The B bodies though - they were handsome bombers. And you could carry the party with you. LOVE that compound radius C pillar. 👀

Always loved the Charger/Coronet/Superbee for 68. Mix in the 440.. old school low lumpy lug Magnum and you have a winner. The Hemis were/are the big dog when it came to making the headlines. But having a Magnum, 383/440 or the more modern but discontinued 360 or SOHC 287, there's no mistake in the sound. Because you'll hear them before you see them.

I remember in the 80’s, my dad picked up a 68 coronet 500 convertible- 318 car. Was rough to say the least. He traded it for a paint job in a 65 galaxie. The guy who acquired it must have knew he got a good deal, because there were few of these cars made. My dad was pissed but he could have done some research

Part of the reason the R/T outsold the Super Bee is the Super Bee was a mid year addition. Dodge saw the great success of the Plymouth road runner and wanted a similar version for their dealers.

Restoring a 440 right now. Not an RT but a true 440 model. Having a 440 big block being built to 600hp. Certain parts are very hard to find as many aren't re-popped and pretty expensive when found.

I remember when you could get these cars for 5 to 800 bucks all day back whenever I was a teenager in skies are ridiculous thinking you can get that kind of money out of them that's completely taking advantage of someone. And it's an automatic no one knows how to drive a stick nowadays and that's what I grew up on three on a tree and an old dump truck kids today don't even know how to drive

I think the 69 was a nicer looking car . The Dash layout was tacky and hideous like Grandma's Rambler . Changing the Intake and putting a Holley on it don't make it original anymore or any better . It's not restored if it's changed . Same with the Cragars . I wish some of these " Experts " would say something that 1000 other " Experts " hasn't . Yeah buy that car for $115 , 000 .
