I have a Mr. Norms scale model of the GSS about 80% finished, I should probably get on that. Mr. Norms Rare Dodge Dart GSS taped off Muscle Car TV about 20yrs ago I guess? Pretty damn cool he ain't afraid to RIP on IT!

My best friend in high school bought a 1968 Dodge Dart GTS 383 Magnum 4 Speed for $1700 in 70's.He was only 15 years old and bought it with the money he saved up from delivering newspapers. We put fender well headers on it when we were teenagers and threw the stock manifolds in the trash. Dumb thing to do because the drivers side manifold is very unique due to clearance issues. Rob passed away last year - but his youngest son now has the Dart - all original - runs great - still hauls ass :)

Yo, great story! I remember the son of the local race shop peeled out of our highsckool autoshop and his posi locked and the spoiled kid didn't know how to peel out sent him into a curb sideways and smashed out his rear diff in a 68 Camaro!

The factory 1968 Dart GTS with the 383, got a standard 4 barrel 383, which was better than 1967, but it wasn't until 1969 that the factory Dart would get the 383 Magnum. All 1969 383 Darts were Magnums. The only 1968 Dodge with a 383 Magnum was the 1968 1/2 Superbee.

Yeh...cool. I was born in 57' and saw all this happening as it happened. I was car crazy since I was 2 or 3. My father was a ww2 vet, I remember him lifting me up to look under the hood of the 55' Rocket 88 Oldsmobile we had probably around 1959. Seems like yesterday. I also knew the 57 Chevy was a classic even before it was a classic. It was my favorite car back then and my whole family knew it.

I can't answer! I only see unclear estimate of how many 383 Dart GTS came from the factory with the 383 but variations and specialty shops would be much much lower I presume! Come by roastin'em and pick me up man! Check out my Firebird and friends 70 Challenger vid next? I only found this: The Find of the Day turned out to be a '67 Dodge Dart GT equipped with a 383 engine, one of just 458 made that year. And this: In 1967 the only engine that came in the GTS was the 383 hp 4 bbl. The Dart GTS cars were built by Chrysler in Chrysler assembly plants. Mine was built at the Hamtrack facility. We are not talking about cars modified, and then rebadged such as the GSS and other varations. There is some question as to the exact number of 67 GTS cars. The hobby accepteded number is 457 (228 automatic, 229 four speeds) However no one seems to be able to produce documents to substainte this number. On the contary I have a letter from Mr. Bruce Thomas (Historian, Chrysler Historical Collection) in which he states. "There is no breakout on the volume of 383's in Darts that I can find but it must be low (his underline) volume. In another letter Mr. Thomas states "Our records indicate 34,496 Dart GT 2-door hardtops were built in 1967. We do not keep records of engine or transmission options." Now if no record of engine options was kept on the 34,496 Darts in 1967. Where did the number of

Adjusted for inflation in today’s money this would’ve costed $23,652 new of course you don’t get any of the modern safety equipment and features but for that money what brand new car can you get at that price point that runs the quarter mile in under 13seconds.

Did Mr. Norm add the "M" to the VIN or did Chrysler?
@THRASHMETALFUNRIFFS
@THRASHMETALFUNRIFFS 3 жыл бұрын
Sounds like it was the factory designation, I found on this thread anyway: The GSS was 1968 only (until the Demon GSS) and sub-contracted. All 1969 440 Darts were GTS models and factory built. Both carried the "M" code for the VIN. The 1968 SS hemi Darts also carried the "M" code for the VIN, but had the "LO" designation for car and price class. The GSS had the "LS" designation.

I only found this... Enjoy the CARS playlist! The four-barrel 440 was rated at 375 hp, although its maximum potential was somewhat stifled by restrictive exhaust manifolds, a compromise to the narrow confines of the unitized A-body's lower engine compartment. Nevertheless, the factory GTS was good for mid-13-second e.t. 's out of the box and high 12s with headers and few of the other tuning tricks of the day. A 727 TorqueFlite three-speed automatic was the only transmission offered with the M-code 440; power steering and power brakes weren't available. Disc brakes weren't offered, either. A 3.55-geared 8 3/4-inch Sure Grip rear axle was standard, and 3.91 gears were optional. It was the quintessential muscle car package: big engine and no power-robbing accessories.
