Since i watch this i know is you who allow them to work on that beautiful Eldorado,Maybe next time you let them revive that Buick sitting next to it in that barn-garage.. it would be really awesome content for you and for us the viewers ! (no need to respond to me just think of it and consider might be possible in near future since like us many people watch from Europe these cars revivals !) maybe after that you do a trip vlog to your grandpa with that Buick and he will drive that too..)

Absolutely one of the most beautiful and iconic Caddies ever made. It's in such remarkable shape that only a full restoration is the way to go. Keep this amazing piece of Americana...it would be an excellent upgrade from the Torino.
@alan6832
@alan6832 9 ай бұрын
What's the towing capacity? I'll take the same year Mustang, Valiant, or Rambler American over that any day unless I need to tow, in which case I'll take the Suburban or a van. I have a '76 Trans am to revive though, so I'm hoping the procedures and carbs are similar. The Torino is far better but earlier Torino wagons were better still. The best Caddies were hearses and ambulances, and the Cimeron, but that's not saying much when the G10 van blew them all away for room and comfort.
@Martin.Wilson
@Martin.Wilson 9 ай бұрын
@@alan6832 LOL. People don't generally buy a Cadillac for its towing capacity. They buy a land yacht like this because it is second to none for a superb ride and a luxurious travel experience. A Rambler American would be like riding in a buckboard compared to that Caddy.. If you're touring cross country, mid-sized cars get very old, very quickly. I've owned and driven both a "68 Caddy and a Torino and there is simply no comparison
@alan6832
@alan6832 9 ай бұрын
@@Martin.WilsonAnd I have toured across the country in Rabbits, Tercels and cabover semis, and view that kind of ride and comfort as an elitist waste, possibly worth money but not something a respectable person should ever do personally, unless possibly very old a frail. Rigging for towing would likely involve stiffer rear springs, which would mean a harsher ride anyway, like the semi. Yes he could flip it to a frail elitist if the blue book say to, but it is no place for a healthy, skate boarding young mechanic, and it's far too powerful for a frail old elitist anyway, who should use a 250 inline 6, leaving just pimps.
@alan6832
@alan6832 9 ай бұрын
@@Martin.Wilson That Caddy would also give Jennifer serious problems with having to set confused men straight on a daily basis. Again, anyone so delicate as to need that pillowy ride doesn't need half the power, making the car useless.

I am the Cadillac enthusiast you were talking about. 😂😂 This car is on my bucket list. My hope is to find a black slick top 68- 67 and 68 are my favorite years by far, but 68 probably edges it out by a nose hair! The TH425 trans is not only very innovative being front wheel drive, it was also very reliable. Basically a TH400 split in half with a big old beefy belt drive for the output section. Those quarter windows slide back into the bodywork by the way…. So cool. Every 472/500 I’ve ever touched came back to life without much of a fight. Thanks for bringing it back for the old man, you can tell how happy he is about it!

I bought my 70 for $2500 and it was a cosmetic wreck. I have seen them on ebay for $900. The market for these is very thin. Few want them. One sold by me for $39,000. The highest I have seen was a custom with all options for $55,000. I would like to get $15,000 out of mine. They get as good of gas mileage as a modern pickup truck. Around 16 mpg on the freeway. The trans was used on the GM motorhome. I have never heard of one breaking in an Eldo or Tornado. Parts are expensive. It kills me to see them parted out. I used to drag race my moms and always beat 396 Chevelles and 383 Road runners. I was out top ended by a 454 Monte Carlo on the freeway. They will smoke the front tires.

My first car was a '73 Eldorado, a coupe like this one. The taillights were thinner, but not as sleek as the '67s. It had the 500cu in, man what torque! It was what I called midnight blue. It was such a deep dark blue, that in most light it looked black. It also had this cool display inside just above the rear window. When you looked in the rear-view mirror at it, you could see a multiple red lit indicator for when your lights were on, when you used the turn signals and applied brakes. I am in north, so the front wheel drive was great for driving in snow. Unfortunately, like most cars in the north, rust took its toll. Thank you for this will it run, Chris. It brought back some excellent memories.

Hmmm, how is it I started this video but paused it early into it not returning 'til now? Well I still don't recall the why but after the hood popped open in this go around I decided to pause and scroll thru the comments to find out if the car was taken back to be in our favorite couple's collection. It appears not... and I just think that is a shame. I don't know if Chris and Jen wanted to own this car since I haven't watched the epilog through after the comment I read made it sound as if the old man/car dealer just used C & J and then wouldn't strike a deal to sell to them the car. So I may not continue watching, my bad. Many peeps liked the video not surprisingly as the pair are very good at producing entertaining and informative content. But for now I am a little disillusioned by the initial first contact with the grandson that to me seemed almost to have sport a superior demeanor towards Chris. I have a fondness for the Eldo and I don't want to sully my adoration for this particular model year by a disappointing end.

Super easy job except for dealing with the weight of the heads and intake manifold . I'd love to have the car and drive it every day . Such a great road car that drives and rides like a Dream . Great video . Really dig the accomidations where y'all spent the night and the local tavern was super cool . Little towns like that have some of the nicest people you'll ever meet and I've been in a hell of a lot of them .

What a car! I was about 20 when those style of cars were being sold. Land yachts, we called them. Highway cruisers that would cruise at 80mph like you were on a very pillowy cloud. Huge back seats, as many of you will fondly remember.

I was quite certain Jen was going to trade up from the Eli to the Eldo. -lol That would have been a great cross country trip! The 60’s were quite the decade for GM styling across the brands. That Oldsmobile 88 and Pontiac(?) rear at the end were works of art. Awesome vid! Thank you, Chris and Jen, for all of your hard work.

Yep, my dad is always on the lookout for a 1965 Olds Delta 88, because he likes the way the rear end looks with the one year only taillights. My grandparents had one, but unfortunately the engine blew while they were on a business trip, so it was traded for a 70’s caprice. He always talks about how he got the job of cleaning and waxing the car on the weekends. I hope he finds one someday, I don’t know if it’s low production, or not too many of them survived or a combination of both, but it’s hard to find a decent one for sale. I think the 65 Olds Holiday?, or wildcat?, may have also had those tail lights.

This one only came out of coma. Better than many others from graves (literally, half burriedd & exposed to elements!). Love watching you bringing them to life and big thanks. Amazing how much science and tech information you pack in each episode without making us feel stupid. It should be "no rambling know how. Als feel sad how many such engineering beatuies are abandoned homeless.

DieHard's use to be the way to go. They had a great warranty. I've bought many of the green tops in the 1980's. That dates me for sure. They use to have a great service department in the 1970's and 80's. unfortunately they changes over the years. Great to see another road trip video. I have to tell you I could live without e-bike revues. There are a million of those out there. That being said I know it might create some income. I'm not a Caddie guy but the Eldorado and the 1970 and older models are different. They were real cars. Love the show and Gus is a cool little dog.

Sears batteries were different color based on the yr/warranty rating. 24,36 green, 48, Diehard was black and at least 5yr free replacement. I can't buy a 2 yr battery to save my life.😢

I used to have a '76 Eldo convertible that I took around the country in 1993. 500ci motor, that thing could pass anything but a gas station. Watching you guys ride that '68 Eldo around, I still have flashbacks of driving my car on desert highway in a sunset. There is nothing like that.

I was born in the sixties and grew up watching the American t.v. series and that's where I got my love of all these great cars. You can keep all these electric motors and give me one of these any day of the week. Best wishes to you both.

As a 51 year old man-child, I remember well, the metamorphosis of the Sears battery: when I bought my first one it said “sears roebuck and company” on it. A few years later I bought another one that said “Sears Die hard”. Some years later, it said “Die hard, By Sears”. Eventually it just said “Die hard”. I don’t remember if Sears was mentioned anywhere on that battery at all. Probably not, I seem to remember Sears selling off the brand around the time K-mart started selling Craftsman tools…..

Great! One of your best videos ever! If that car becomes available you should buy it for Jan, she deserves it for putting up with you (chuckle). I am not a Caddy fan but the car should be able to bring between $ 7,500 to $ 10,000 easy. Good luck on the rest of your journey and smooth sailing from one of your fans on the wet west coast. 🤠🏁
