Those old 454s are a beast. My step dad had an early 80s with no cat and I had a jetski that took 110 octane (low-lead) premixed fuel. Well, he ran that 2 stroke premixed 110 octane with lead and the thing just ran like nothing. Also, welcome to the west coast/desert. You'll find lots of old vehicles with no rust. My 05 Sierra and 05 Ram both have no rust while others on the east coast have rotted rockers, cab corners, bedsides, etc.

I bought a 67 Chevy Impala from it's 1st owner and he was a believer in marvel mystery oil. Every oil change he would use it and once a month in the gas. When I sold it the new owner brought the engine to work with the heads off. They looked like they were brand new!!! Cylinder wals perfect. Only a little wear! The engine has 117.000 miles and looked like it had 5000 miles!!! Not kidding!

My family owned a '76 Blazer (basically the 2-door version of this beast). We may have just gotten a lemon, but it turned out to be the single worst auto purchase we ever made. Within a few months of buying it (new), the fuel pump went out, the underside started to rust out, the fuel gauge stopped working, the rear window crank mechanism broke... I could go on and on. To add insult to injury, it got about 10-12 mpg combined city/highway. By the time the car was less than three years old, it seemed like at least 2/3 of the engine had been replaced. I ended up selling the car for next to nothing and was just happy to be rid of it. That said, I did love the way the engine roared... when I could actually get the thing started.

I really appreciate you sharing all the trade secrets that you’ve learned. Back in the day, no senior mechanic would share his tips and tricks with any young guy in fear that young guy, being me, might take his job one day….at least that has been my experiences being 53yrs old….I’m definitely old school. Things have definitely changed over the generations. Thanks again👍 And my thoughts and and prayers are with you, Jen and the little man Gus. I love the fur baby 😄….A gift from God❤️😊

1973 was the first year for those generation Chev & GMC Suburbans, K5 Blazers, Jimmys, pickups, & medium dutys. 1991 was the last year for them except for the regular cab pickups & medium dutys which were discontinued before that year. The half ton & three quarter ton regular cab pickups were the first to go in 1987, & the one ton regular cab pickups were next in line to go in 1989. It was either 1989 or 1990 when the medium dutys were discontinued.

Wow, it's amazing to see you taking on the challenge of restoring and fixing a classic car like the 1973 Chevy Suburban 454! It takes a lot of dedication, patience, and skill to bring an older vehicle back to life, and you should be proud of yourselves for taking on such a rewarding project. As you work on restoring and fixing your Suburban, remember that every step you take is bringing you closer to your goal of a fully functional and beautiful vehicle. There may be times when the work feels overwhelming or frustrating, but keep pushing through and don't give up! You'll learn so much along the way and develop valuable skills that you can apply to future projects. And when you finally get to drive your Suburban down the road, feeling the power of the engine and the wind in your hair, you'll know that all of your hard work was worth it. Keep up the great work and enjoy the journey!

definitely a replacement situation not jb weld lol. Jb weld isnt going to work sticking to more corrosion. What happens when it leaks, now youre on the road with no intake manifold available... And limping it along isnt going to work since its going to put water directly into the oil, not burn it in the cylinders....

Y'all take care - thank you for all that you do to get these published for us to watch, we enjoy it! Darren in TX

My Dad had a 1976 Suburban with 454, Holley carb and an aftermarket cam put in it. We traveled all through the West Coast on vacations every few years pulling a large (about 20 foot) Aljo travel trailer. That monster would pull the trailer up hills going 75 MPH. That is a very worthy vehicle of rebuilding to it's glory you have there. I never got the chance to drive it as I wasn't old enough. I did drive the 1970 Mercedes 300SEL 6.3 at 150MPH many times.

Wow! Your aptitude to get this beauty running is relentless, I would’ve given up as soon as realizing the timing chain was broken. 😂 good work man. Watched the entire thing super entertaining.

Those were some good people you were dealing with. I love how Jenn is all smiles the whole time. The Suburban is my favorite. You seem like a great guy and I like the content so far. Earned a sub.

These Suburbans are great honestly. A buddy of mine had one for work. Almost the same size as a cargo van, but way cooler. I've often thought about buying one to put a little lift on and slap a drivetrain to it. A 454 could work, assuming I could find a cheap intake, heads, and cam for it, but likely an LS swap or even a Dynamax 6.6. One of the truck channels built a bulletproof big body off toad truck. They'd have been happy to have something rust free from the desert, for sure.

Chris: A few years back a guy from Reading was cleaning out his hunting cabin up in Potter or Sullivan county and he got the hantavirus. He died in the hospital. One of the problems is that it’s so rare east of the Mississippi that doctors don’t spot it right off. Probably not much that you can do with Gus and the chickens but I had a dog get so sick that he had to overnight in the vet hospital. At the time we blamed it on eating Canada goose poop but we never were sure.

Stumbled across this channel and I must say, this is the definition of the American Dream. Two people who have worked hard to become the best they can be. Wow! 🎉

Watched the video with pleasure. Until recently, I did not believe that this old Suburban would go. You guys are really great! And Jane, besides being beautiful, also keeps her in a good mood! Best regards from Russia.

Makes me want to get in my garage and pull my 454...friend had 5k on a camper and apparently issue with guage... engine seized...dealer put in new engine and he gave me the old one complete with heads and all but carb. Needs pistons knocked out, bored and put together...a 1980 type version...been sitting as no time to work on it. Have my 70 ss454 monte carlo with 68k miles parked and time to get the rust on windows fixed and painted and running...have owned since 1971...Impressed with your time spent on this and the work you did...
