1968-72 GM A Body, my favorite platform of that era, and this is one beautiful Cutlass, love everything about it. That color, stance,wheels,and of course,that engine!

In 1979 I had a 1968 Cutlass S with those same wheels on it, I live in Pa. and I think that car had Pa. plates, what a co-ink-a-dink. Great build, I just watched all six video's, if had that much power back then, I probably would have killed myself, I was a dumb teenager with a lead foot. Thanks

You think you see it all …but man.. this is about as good as it possibly gets.How many people build cars & cold air isn't in the top 5 concerns…this is done right
@pwilly74 жыл бұрын
While I agree, most of us don’t need cold air. I ditch the AC on most of my vehicles.

+Steve Holsten I don't drive the Brothers Collection cars, but when we build one and we get approval from the customer, I can get some seat time!

+V8TV Ok. That makes sense. It's got to be rough being around all those rides and not getting some seat time.

Your opinion may vary, but in mine the 68 Cutlass/442 is the best looking of the line. I really like the belt stripe, the 3 almost equal grills that make it's face and the tail lights that kinda disappear in the rear bumper. I've always been a Chevy guy, but that one just gets it for me. The only more appealing version being the black an silver 68 Hurst Olds. How many of those were made?

Are there no cats on the exhaust system? If not, why are they not necessary? Else, great session. That thing sounds like a total beast! If it wasn't for the 4-4-2 badging, what a sleeper it would be!
@V8TV8 жыл бұрын
+Kurt Nyffeler No cats required for the car legally, so we did not run them. Thanks for the kind words!

What are the torque numbers for that build?? It's the torque that gets a heavy car moving. Motor seems too "peaky" to be in that big Olds. Beautiful build though! The ultimate well thought and executed resto-mod.

Super sano conversion, fellas. Just needs one thing - wider rear tires. Obviously.

Great series, highly enjoyed it. It's ended up getting me thinking about getting an A-body with a tired engine after I finish college, and doing a swap to a turbo 3.8L Buick V6, a la Grand National. Would that be a practical build for a muscle car with plenty of power but better gas mileage than a beefier LS engine or the like?
@V8TV8 жыл бұрын
+xployalist Interesting idea, we've seen Buick turbo 6s installed in A bodies before. With the added complexity of the turbo, you might be better off with a naturally-aspirated LS. They made more power than the turbo 6 and are easier to install, and probably get the same or better economy if geared right.
@xployalist8 жыл бұрын
+V8TV Alright. If I was to keep the Chevy/Buick/Olds V8 that would come with the car, would a throttle body EFI and economy gear ratio help as well?
@V8TV8 жыл бұрын
+xployalist An overdrive transmission, correct rear gears, and a TB EFI system would help.

GM Performance has these "E-Rod" series on their crate engine page. There was only two options of the E-Rod series, the 6.2 LS3 @ 430 horse and the supercharged 6.2 LSA @ 556 horse which is the CTS-V engine and is a de-tuned version of the LS9 vette engine. Now there are three E-Rod options to choose from, the new one is the LT1 6.2 w/ E-Rod brain @ 455 horse which is making more power than the LS3In California, guys with cars and trucks between 1977 and 1995 are loving these "E-Rod" engines because they make between 430 to 556 horsepower while passing CA emissions, smog test. GMPP claims you can swap these E-Rods into any make, any model regardless of original engine. All three E-Rods have the notorious "CARB/EO" numbers which is vital for CA use.For the proper, entire swap Id budget for around $25K, that covers any one of the E-Rod engines you want and the proper transmission w/ trans cooler, new 3,000 rpm stall converter and a new flywheel, a one piece-tubular driveshaft w/ 1350 yokes and u-joints and maybe a rebuild of the rear-end; new axles, new ring/pinion w/ better gear ratio and a modern posi and maybe some ladder bars to help it hook. If you have a shop do it the work they will suggest a new radiator, and fuel tank with all new lines; then figure for at least 40 hours shop time, maybe even 60 hours.

I want to see GM place the supercharger used on the LS9 and place that same supercharger on the LSX 454 and see what kind of power it makes. Right now GM is losing against Dodge. The past 2-3 years Dodge has had the Challanger "Hellcat" which makes well over 700 horse from the factory and now they have the Challanger "Demon" which makes over 800 from the factory.GM will have to do something or Chevy guys will be jumping ship.

+Dell Jr Would this Oldsmobile beat a Grand National?
@delljr27697 жыл бұрын
Most likely, just depends on how the Gran Nat is built.
@MrYnoter7 жыл бұрын
+Dell Jr Reason why i want know is because i'm thinking of swaping my 1987 Regal with this engine. It's gonna look exactly like a Grand National but will have the LSA engine. I wanted a Grand National but being that it's an old car/engine i can't really abuse it like i would be able to with a brand new LSA becuse i want to drive the crap out of the thing daily. What do you think? Should i continue with the swap or pick a Grand National with 30k miles?
@delljr27697 жыл бұрын
Id be careful buying any GM crate engine because they are built in Mexico and they don't dyno each engine after each build, they pull every tenth engine or so off the assembly line and dyno it, that's call "dyno proven" but Not each engine is dyno prior to shipment. If you want to go LS or LSX Id call Nelson Racing Engine down in Southern CA, they build to order and properly build using quality American parts designed for big power and high output. They use RHS blocks which are great aftermarket LS/LSX blocks and the entire build is quality. Anything from 427, 434, 441 and 454 from those block, sometimes more if using the RHS tall deck. 625 horse on pump gas is common, or get twice that if you have Nelson install a turbo.
