Absolutely love the Olds 455! They really never got the respect they deserved with everyone being so obsessed with the Chevy motors and now the LSs, and they probably won't ever get the respect they deserve. But more than a few Chevelle guys have been embarrassed by a lowely little 442 and it's always great seeing their reaction when they are. Awesome car! Keep it Olds!

My Dad had a 1964 Olds Starfire when he was a senior in high school, in 1967, in San Jose, Calif. It had a 4spd and 394 big block, lowered, egg shell white, and it was his first car....he LOVED that car...2 weeks before graduation, it was stolen out of the school parking lot...cops found it 3 weeks later, it had the interior stripped out, 4 mismatched tires, and had been set on fire in East Palo Alto, Calif...he still has a picture of that car hanging on the wall in his garage...

Love it! Everyone seems to overlook the Oldsmobile's and Pontiac's of this era for the must have over priced Camaro's, Chevelle's and Nova's etc. Pontiac and Oldsmobile engines are under rated also, properly built they are great engines that make tons of torque.

Wow, thank you for this. My first car in '73 (I wasn't 16 until '75) was a '65 Cutlass w/330 4brl, 2dr hard top, auto man. It was a hand me down that my mom own for years so it was a little worn out when I got it at 13 as a project. Came Maroon (target red (i think), w/ white int, w/black carpet and tack mounted on the factory console. I never quite seen one equipped with these options but I also remember that it didn't have any F85 badges inside or out. I was so proud of this car by the time I was 16. I learned so much about mechanics and hot rodding (the latter of which I couldn't afford).

I absolutely love the Old's cutlass, I never owned one between the years of 64 to 67 they were very hard to find for me but I owned at least 25 cuttlass's when I was younger and my first cutlass that I bought from a very good friend in highschool was my favorite because me and my cousin did a lot of work to it and it ran low 12's in the 1/4 mile at the Atco speedway in Atco new jersey and I also put a 411 posi rear in it and the front tires would come up off the ground and the back tires would be screaming it was awesome and I loved it ❤️😎👍

Definitely nice to see that he stuck with the Olds engine. Major props for that. I kind of want the tires to have taller sidewalls, but that's really just nit-picking. I think it would make it look much more natural and more Trans-Am era, though. But all my bench-judging aside, this thing is awesome!

62-72 American cars, and I mean al of them, Ford, GM, Mopar AMC, were the best looking cars in history. Love tbe 65 Cutlass. Beatiful, but I would prefer a set of Torque-Thrust D, Cragars, Keystone Classics or Ansen Sprints. Am I the only one that noticed the left brake lamp was inop?

I love seeing classics in stock form, at the very least - if thats not your thing - it emphasizes how far beautiful & slick builds like this one have come from factory. Also, always hope that the heavy-duty builds are built from cars that have been worn down and seen plenty of miles over the years rather than a low-miles factory-spec garage find that looks like it just rolled off the dealer lot. Give the ol' gals a new life, it warms my heart

Turbo 400 with a manual valve body. It was a beast he did a lot of his own machine work because he wasn't rich. i was afraid to drive that car it was a beast.

I was stunned when I first saw this video because I didn't think anybody cared about a pre 1968 olds product at all in the performance dept any ways. I own a 1966 cutlass 4 door. A lot of people locally think its cool but on the grand scale I thought not. Well this video proved me wrong. It's true the featured has 2 doors and pretty serious money into it, it looks a lot like my 1966.I too have done work to many areas of the car. New springs,shocks, full polyurethane bushings,fat tires, 455,posi but over all far from finished. My car drives so grandma but runs 81 in the 1/8 mile.

You finally found out...I owned a '67 442 rag-top big block set up the same way Edelbrock, Holly double pumpers, Squeeze, etc. No lettering on the outside tho...a super sleeper. I loved pulling up the handle to open the cutouts, and terrify whoever was in the other lane...and then blow his doors off. I still know what I learned. I have a small-block V8 dodge van now (sob) but I can still kick it hard and step out over the line it around 'obstacles' as necessary. Uh huh. Boowa ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!

'77 Olds Ninety-Eight 2dr coupe, 5.7 ltr 350 Rocket, looks sick and evil at a stand still with aftermarket wheels. The long body lines and lowered front end stance made the roof look chopped. Quick off the line when tires aren't spinning, that third gear is an import killer and that's an automatic. You can feel all the weight that the specs foretell. The thing handles like a go-kart. Sloppy /reckless when you want it to be or precision/polished when your heart desired. It was a heavyweight sleeper.

Hey Mike, thank you yet again for another great episode. I remember seeing a muscle car made in Holly, Michigan at the Detroit Auto Show this year. It really caught my eye (huge price tag too) and it is sort of the pinnacle of muscle cars of the modern day era. The muscle car is known as the Equus Bass 770. It would be one hell of an episode if you guys could test drive it for BIG MUSCLE as the car really isn't as popular as it should be and yet its got great numbers to boast as well as craftsmanship.

Not only is it "not an LS", but it's a Rocket in an Oldsmobile,you just made my day! Few know the true mid range power those 60's- early 70's Olds Rocket 350's and 455's really had. I was crossing my fingers that it wasn't another small block chevy swap. And to all the nay sayers,do a bit of research that, Prius you're driving has put more Co2 into the atmosphere being made then the average '57 Bel-aire has since it's birth, don't believe the hype. It's b.s,the only reason the government wants old cars off the road ain't the "poor" gas mileage,it's the superior steel they were made out of...
@thelaborpeasant
@thelaborpeasant 9 жыл бұрын
Agreed. On multiple points. First the Olds motors are just awesome. They have nasty low end torque and that's exactly what you want on the street. Which is exactly where we all do 99% of our driving, even those guys who like to bitch out and say "nope, I track my car twice a month every month blah blah" yeah right... Secondly, people really overlook the way things are made these days. People keep talking about electric cars not using gas, what about the fuel consumption amd emissions from the power plants that power the cars? Many power plants burn oil instead of coal so is it really that different? And if everyone had an electric car we'd see electricity consumption and price spikes and once it's all said and done we'll have landfills full of millions of car batteries that everyone knows are one of the worst things for the environment. People don't like to think beyond the fuel pump and tail pipe anymore. Today's world takes a lot more insight than just what you can see and touch

I photoshopped a superbird wing on this exact type of Oldsmobile using a flipped C pillar as the wing, and it looks sick.

A very nice Olds. I had 4 of them in various years and models. Will give you a pass on the fog lights, but fix the Brake Light and clean up that stripe. Well Done! Great functional Dash. Cars in the long run are always cheaper than women.

6:49: "This car started life as a 330 V8, 2 speed powerglide car". This is wrong information. Powerglide transmissions were never used in Oldsmobiles! The Oldsmobile 2 speed automatic was known as the Jetaway transmission. It IS the same transmission used in Buick and Pontiac A body cars. Pontiac also called it the Jetaway. Buick called it the "ST-300". It is NOT the same thing as a Powerglide - that is a Chevrolet only transmission! The only thing the Powerglide and Jetaway have in common are both being 2 speed automatics. Just like how the GM divisions usually used different engines on a carline, in the 60s, many GM divisons did not use the same transmissions, either, even when a car line was shared between the different divisions.
