I wasn't aware the Cutlass was such a hipo car if ordered correctly. That W-31 sounds better than the Chevy Z28 that year. Close ratio and 4.33's. I believe the low 13's. How nice the original owner still has it. Trunk and treats were first rate. Thaks for thw great video.

Another great Oldsmobile muscle car! A Ram-Rod 350 is extremely rare, and not a common feature. The close ratio shifter makes this example even more spectacular. The engine sounds healthy, and the separated headlights make it look more aggressive.

What an incredible video and story. This guys brother was an engineer for Oldsmobile and gave him insider information. Than he goes and orders his dream car, selecting all his desired options. He than goes on to work for Oldsmobile himself. Fast forward to today and it's like being back in 1968! The car is unrestored yet just as gorgeous as it was when it left the lot. Finally the trunk and treats....wow!! Seems like he not only had the complete history of this specific car but all of the Oldsmobile line for 1968. Thank you Larry and thank you Lou. This video has "rocketed", to the top of my all time favorite videos for this channel. Simply amazing!!

Lou, thank you. And thanks to Larry too. My first car, a '64 Chrysler New Yorker, had the factory option of a rear reverberation speaker too, an interesting feature. For anyone unfamiliar, there was a simple push-pull switch on the lower dashboard. I recall (roughly) the owner's manual stated, that by pulling out on the switch/knob activated the reverberator (located in the trunk) and the sound was transformed into that of a concert hall. And that's exactly what it sounded like, sitting in a big old concert hall. This feature was basically for when the radio was being played loud otherwise there wasn't much sense in turning it on. But even my sixteen-year-old self would find it too intense after a short while, so I mostly used it to wow my friends.

@@loucostabile Lou, I'm assuming that you enjoy making the videos that you bring us. I can say that for myself and probably the other subscribers too, that we're glad you're willing to keep up the work and travel that you put in to bring us your channel. Whenever I comment to any channel, I almost always begin with a thank you because we don't see the bother and energy it takes to make a video. And this is always true for what you do Lou, and especially that you're never a jerk about it. As well, you seem to have a knack for finding car owner's that are really nice and enjoyable listening to. And incredibly somehow you always seem to answer my comments. Goodday Lou, I am absolutely blown away. I have Larry's W31 in a 1:18 Diecast sitting at position number 1 in my diecast collection & it is my partners favorite diecast. All my friends ask me if you can have just 1 car in your diecast collection, before they can finish the question it is without doubt Larry's W31. Just bought my 6th Oldsmobile Diecast today. 1968 W30 in Cinnamon Bronze to complement my 1968 Hurst/Oldsmobile & Larry's W31. I have watched this video 3 times, this W31 is amazing. No one besides Oldsmobile people would know they existed & turning mid 13's in 1968 in a small block unheard of, only the L79 Chevrolet Small Block in a Corvette would be quicker than a W 31. Love the split headlights & the unique quarter vent window. I always said the Oldsmobile has a nicer looking rooflining than the other 3 divisions. 4:33 to 1 rear gear the W31 just laughs at it, from what I have read those W31 with there special harmonic balancer just loved to rev & make power. To me the W31 is the most underrated muscle car from the muscle car era, even more underrated than AMC. If & when I get to the States it would be an honour & a dream come true to see Larry's W31 & hopefully get a ride. If Larry is looking for the next caretaker I am him. Thank you so much Lou featuring my all time favorite Oldsmobile. I consider myself Australia's number 1 Oldsmobile Fan. Lou can you find & feature a Oldsmobile Tornado W34. 68 to 70. I am a total die hard Pontiac fan but after buying a few Cutlass's I have developed a love for Oldsmobile too! And I really love this one! I'm old enough to remember when these came out! I was only 13 but I was a big time gear head and got several of the car magazines and they gave these great reviews! This one is the ultimate sleeper with the Cutlass name tag and the ram air inlets under the front bumper! Plus it has a 12 bolt ''Anti Spin Differential'' and of course the four speed transmission! Plus I just absolutely love Red interiors in a car! And although I have owned several 67/68 Firebirds and liked them all his brother was correct when he told him to get this Cutlass instead of a Firebird!

@@opera93 I lived many years in the snow/salt belt. The only real answer is winter storage of your collector car, or taking it out in winter only when roads are dry & salt free. I drove a second car - "beater" - on bad days. Heated garages were the worst for a daily driver in winter because the constant snow melting kept the corrosive salt active. Rustproofing sometimes blocked body drain holes trapping salt water, so sometimes did more harm than good.

Incredible car, video and story. "Stoplight car" indeed!! Reminds me of an experience I had and a cool story I still enjoy sharing. I could have bought an original owner '70 Rallye 350 when I was in college in the middle 1990s, or at least made an offer on it. Could hardly believe my eyes when, one day, I saw an older lady waiting to pick up her grandkids in it!! Solid but a little faded, all stripes and decals still visible. But I wasn't in the market at the time (already owned a muscle car and was also helping my brother with building one) and spending that amount--which wasn't actually too exorbitant--wasn't entirely practical for me at the time. Took the lady's number (she informed me that she and her husband wanted to sell, and yes she got inquiries all the time, everywhere) and asked around but none of my friends had the dough, or the space, or both, at the time either. Wonder whatever became of that yellow Olds. Hope it found a good home someplace. Speaking of bright yellow GM muscle, another day my friend Greg and I were walking out of one of the campus buildings and in the front visitor parking area of our small college was an immaculate yellow 1979 Z/28 that looked like it had been painted the day before. One of my favorite color combos on the late second-gen Z/28s. "Perfect" hardly does this car justice. We spent a few moments gawking over the car, the interior was flawless, stripes, wheels, etc. etc. then went on our way. It could not have been better if it had been sitting on the showroom floor in the spring of '79 and a glad-handing salesman with mutton chop sideburns, a cigar and a suit with wide lapels was trying to sell it to you!! We never did encounter or see the owner and we never spotted the Camaro around again. Came and went like a vision. Thanks Lou, this one was outstanding. : D : )

Very very nice looking Cutlass. The upgrades that he did are tastefully done and look as if they would've come on the car from the factory, nothing wrong with that at all, I would've done the same with the rear bumper to show off those trumpets!!! This is such a nice survivor car with an orginal owner and that is fantastic!! The color combination is perfect, white with the red interior is just so sweet. I have always loved the shape of these cars, super slick fastback style and I'm glad he pointed out how the rear window shape makes that curve, really a nice design feature that gives this car the right curves and is accentuated by that lovely pinstripe. The cold air set up on these cars was awesome giving it a bit of a sleeper aspect to the car, that is until the unsuspecting victim sees that Ram Rod decal on the fender, light turns green and they are smoked by this beauty!!! Hi, Lou! I'm not surprised about this being an original owner car. I think Larry understood how very rare this car was from the beginning (although the tip from his brother certainly did hurt), so this was definitely a keeper! Pontiac fans might be a big rankled to hear anyone call the Firebird Sprint a mistake, but obviously Larry has no regrets. This Oldsmobile is a Youngmobile in every way! Are you sure about the 325 horses? That seems like a VERY conservative figure to me after watching Larry floor it! This car is literally (Provincial) White Lightning! LOL! As always, you've managed to find something truly unique to show us. Many thanks to you and Larry for taking us along on this rapid Ram Rod Rocket ride!

Good gawd!! I know about the '68 W-31 Ram Rod 350--I'm not even 5 minutes into this vid and can tell you this car has a 6600 RPM top end from the factory. I know this because of a Cars magazine feature from the 70's that dealt with this very model, if not the very car. Undoubtedly one of the hottest pre-smogger (yeah, it is 1968) GM V8 small blocks ever...and understandably from Lansing.

It BURBLES at idle😎. I like the mention of the Pontiac Firebird Sprint as a second choice. I just saw that car on Jay Leno. 6 cylinder. Interesting.

Another great video Lou. My parents had 4 Oldsmobiles over the years the oldest being a Black with white stripes 1972 442. I always liked the Ram Rod 350 cars because you don't see many of them. I always liked the Rallye 350 cars as well even though they are pretty rare.

I’m looking to see what the color chart is saying on the 2nd one down on the left. It looks like willow gold. My friend and I went looking to buy a nice car to cruise the Gut in downtown Lansing in I believe 1970-71 and we went to University Olds on Mich ave. and we came across what I thought was a willow green(but maybe gold) 1968 cutlass 350 Ramrod convertible with matching top and interior. We took it for a test drive and was sold immediately! DAMN, this thing rocked!!! It looked like a sleeper with stock rims, and redline tires. We spent the summer smoking Z-28s, Roadrunners, Machs, I mean this thing was a beast! In the research I’ve done it looks as though it may have been the only one produced in that color as a convertible. I’ve seen nothing but red and black. Can anyone shed some light on the history of that car?

I had a 1968 W-30 a few years ago, I would rather have had a Ram Rod, better balanced car! Mine wasn’t stock, had a 513 cu in Olds bb stroker in it, 4 speed, 3:91 rear, it was a Joe Mondello built engine, ran very strong, but was not a lot of fun to drive on the street. I had a 70 W-31 a few years ago, very nice, quick car, I have a 1972 W-30 in my shop that I ordered brand new, and still own, love my Oldsmobiles! 👍

@@loucostabile Just finishing a 5 year frame off on it, all number matching, but not stock anymore, car was totally rebuilt top to bottom, body and mechanicals. I don’t know how to download pictures in Utube, I’m kind of an old fart! LOL If you have a web address you’re comfortable with sharing, I can send you some that way. 👍
