I was a 12 year old kid when these were introduced in the fall of 1967. They were an instant hit. Every young guy wanted one. I rode my bicycle all over my small town and was extremely aware of every new car that hit the road. What an exciting time it was. Nowadays, who cares!

"Mr Petty, your car has arrived......." It's some 30 years plus now, when Hemi sightings on the street was a rare sight to find; when at the local farmers market here in South Jersey I saw one exactly like this 68, was parked among the other shopper's cars. Black on black, 4 speed. A driver, not a museum piece like this one. To this day, it was the only Hemi Mopar I've ever run across in day to day, real life. Thanks, Lou!

this car is restored perfectly, including the engine! Too many of these legends are over restored with bigger, “loppier” cams, along with “free’er” flowing exhaust headers so they’re much noisier than they originally were when they arrived in showrooms back in their day.

This is a fantastic 1968 Plymouth Road Runner! Its beautiful and shiny black paint makes even the smallest details stand out; such as its striking chrome grille with double headlights, or its Road Runner logos distributed in several parts, along with the eye-catching elongated red rear guides that frame that large chrome plate with the Plymouth letters (special mention for the elongated and thin red stripe that runs along the the entire side corner of the body; a touch of good taste!). It also caught my attention that its interior is black; since, almost always, we are used to seeing them in different colors than the outside. This, in a way, gives a dark and sinister touch to the whole, while highlighting its instrumentation and other subtle details (such as the attractive steering wheel with three chrome partitions and half spokes). Finally, how neat and shiny that engine bay was, with the powerful 426 V8 Hemi painted in orange and its dazzling air filter with that yellow "Hemi Head" logo. Congratulations to Mr. Clinkscale, for showing this dark beauty for the first time in a show! Great video, Lou; with flashlight included hehe! Kind regards!

If I "identified as Wyle E. Coyote", would that black car chase me? And then it is a 4 speed manual. I just love manual transmissions and how they make you feel connected to the car's operation. 68 was, I think the best model year of the American car industry. So many good quality cars came out of that year. This is one of them. Fantastic car! I usually look at anything built by Ford first when I am in the market for a new car. If a Ford or Mercury dealer can't satisfy me, I go to the Chrysler Plymouth dealers. I have owned a Plymouth and if they were still making that brand, I would buy one today, since Ford quit making cars! This Road Runner looks so good, because it was a museum piece, but If I owned it, the car would be my daily driver.

Back in the 80s I was living in Texas ( Round Rock ) I had stopped at a store to buy something and all the sudden in the parking lot I hear this beast pull in. It was a Hemi Road Runner that looked exactly like this one ! Black with red pin stripes 4 speed, bench, dog dish hub caps........ Ill never forget it. I talked cars with the guy for about a half a hour in the parking lot. He showed me his car and man was I envious! It could be this cars twin although it had some road miles so was not quite as nice as this one. He said he was the 2nd owner and had got in back in mid 70s and drove it occasionally. I cant recall how many miles he said it had but I think it was under 30k?

David, get this thing to a Hemmings Musclepalooza event (BTW in 4 different places this year) where you can both show and go that beautiful Road Runner. To me, there's nothing like watching bone-stock muscle cars go down the 1/4 mile. Great video Lou, the '68-'70 Chrysler B-bodies are some of my favorite cars. Wow...what a car! I always liked Plymouth Roadrunner and GTX. Saw both in my towns classic american carshow. I was so in hyped up and yelled to my friends. Look, look a Roadrunner!!! And then next beside it, there also stood a GTX so I got both cars in one picture. That was amazing! I figured out that we got world's largest classic american carshow in the world, and I counted my towns carshow in and well, according to numbers atleast we are fifth biggest in the country with almost 1 650 american cars and about 1 800 vehicles in total. The biggest I was at last year there where about 11 300 classic american cars only. So yeah, a big differense there. I also like aeroplanes. We have a event in Sweden that is named Wings and Wheels. A classic american carshow with an airshow baked in together. I mean wow, that's so cool. So now I want to visit the world's biggest aviation event and airshow that are in Oshkosh USA. So I guess it is time to start saving money for a long trip. :)

Like number 413! Almost! Ahaha. Woooowwwww..Superclean! We could fry up & eat bacon & eggs on this car and be none the worse for it, ahaha! Such an amazing road runner. The 'Businessmans hotrod!' if i got that right? Thanks tons, Lou for the car story on this ominous looking black bird! This is Alfred Hitchcock level scary looking! And yet...oh so nice, at the same time🙂 ..a time machine, in fact. 😎🖤🖤🖤

@@loucostabile ..this car is Christine's yet more terrifying sister! Ahaha! Yeah, much appreciated. A gold mine of cars at MCACN! ..it's on my bucket list! My cousin John made it there not long ago. He still has the survivor '71 Satellite Sebring Plus, in gold with a 383. He lives in southern Wi, here..still need to get you two in on a 'My car story sometime', you'd like this guy..and his car! ahaha. Thanks for the fabulous channel, Mr. C. 🏁🏁

If I can remember correctly, Plymouth paid Warner Brothers 10,000 Dollars (Around 430,000-440,000 Dollars today if I am not mistaken) to use the model name of their car and apply it to the design of their car as well. They paid a few extra bucks for the price in order to use the iconic "Meep Meep" or "Beep Beep" horn. It ended up working, and they also applied the "GTX" model (or Luxury Trim for the Roadrunner) to the car from 1968-1971 as well. It's a real shame that there wasn't no GTX for the 1972-1974 model years, but it was very understandable onto why (Lack of demand for luxury muscle cars being more common and/or muscle cars in general, 1973 Oil Crisis caused by a conflict with Saudi Arabia, and more).

Beautiful, the black with subtle red accents looks great. Does it actually have chromed drip rails ? or the usual polished stainless steel?.

Happy to read this one is "Beautiful" :-) Hmmm, not sure about the drip rails.

Great car, but seems a shame that it's been relegated to museums and car shows it's entire life. I get it, but it's kinda like a caged bird. That bird was meant to run!
