Looks fantastic! On lightweight cars like these If you put a strap around the bottom of your floor jack and around the frame of the car you can compress springs by yourself. At your own risk, but it works for me.

Yeah, there are a bunch of options...anything from a d ring in the floor, to a 2x4 to a beam in the ceiling etc....

In mine I bolted a, angle iron strap from the bracket down to the frame on the forward (non-shock) side of the bracket. My frame was cracked before the conversion, even the lever shocks can cause cracks where you show. If I ever get another TR6 I'll probably do something similar to Neil Revington's setup if I decide to do convert.
@cheftush
@cheftush 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Nate, yes I considered doing the same angle iron on my TR6 before I removed the tube shocks...I had the rebuilt lever shocks at hand so it was easier at that point with less car down time to do the swap....
@johnmoruzzi7236
@johnmoruzzi7236 4 жыл бұрын
Nate Steiner Bear in mind any frame that cracked there will have been 30 - 40 years old and will have fatigued anyway... the different forces from the tube upgrade will have just finished the job.
@natesteiner5460
@natesteiner5460 4 жыл бұрын
@@cheftush Also I sandwiched a couple pieces of high density (3/8" thick IIRC) between the new shock brackets and the trunk floor/walls. Probably not necessary, but the whole project began as an exorcism of creaks and pops from the rear suspension. I ended up replacing the differential mounts plus welding in a reinforcing kit, new trailing arm bushes, 6 new u-joints and helicoiling all 12 hub studs. Only regret was fitting the "competition" springs front and rear. Sold the car before I had a chance to swap back.
@natesteiner5460
@natesteiner5460 4 жыл бұрын
@@johnmoruzzi7236 no, the welds were cracked prior to my fitting the conversion. I went over any suspect weld while I could get to while I had the suspension and exhaust out.
@johnmoruzzi7236
@johnmoruzzi7236 4 жыл бұрын
@@natesteiner5460 That was kind of my point... obviously an inherent weak point transferring offset drivetrain loads from the diff crossmember to the frame via the welds without some additional bracing. I imagine the shift from the TR4A to the 5s and 6s with sportier engines and other owner upgrades didn't help.

I would say that you have a quick rack there. The large adjusting nut looks the same as the one that was on my quick and is also the same nut that blew clean out of the housing. The original quick racks were recalled and i returned mine to MOSS. And I also believe the quick racks were made in Argentina. I also hated the driving experience with the quick rack and would have replaced it even if it hadn't failed.

I thought it might be Tim, I have a feeling that I will be swapping it out....I think I have a couple of stock racks kicking around that I can rebuild. Cheers, Tush

Wow,,, moving quick on the build. Thank god Les showed up... David did your order parts ahead of time? If so you must have done some good planing. Finding hardware in the right size has been kicking my butt in putting the TR4 together. Do you know of any manual that indicates the type and size of hardware needed for certain parts? Might be just wishful thinking that the information is available in a manual. Looking good..
@cheftush
@cheftush 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Robert, there are spare parts catalogues available for the TR4....this would show you the part number of the fasteners. You would then need to look these up...waghornswood.net.nz/Manuals_01_18/Vehicles/Triumph/Assorted/triumph_standard_hardware_catalog.pdf

Had to smile at the OCD kicking in over those nuts. I am just the same and even make sure there are never more than two threads sticking out of any nut. I can blame my old engineering tutor as he pointed out 'Its a waste of metal and doesn't add tightness!'. And @ 18:22 the three fastenings on the right are 'screws' (as in machine screws) and the rest are bolts because they have that un-threaded shank. And a 'screw' can have any sort of head on it from Torx to hex head. But the point you make is very important when bolting assemblies together as its often the shank that is locating the parts in line. But the car is certainly starting to look the part mate. Well done.

I like the cups, though expensive. Thought the brit idea was to use with the stock soft, to protect the frame, but no reason not to use with poly. Good vids.
