What a joy it is hear George Kell, the longtime TV voice of the Tigers, call this game for NBC in his soothing Arkansas drawl.

And Al Kaline later...I loved to hear.."He hit that ball a country mile!" on my Dad's radio stationed in the middle of the half open window of the garage ,that was about 90 degrees , where my Mom's 68 Buick Wildcat sat.. We would clean out and wash, service fluid's or whatever..basically my Dad was being Tim Allen.. My Mom never went over 50 in that beast..I peeled the Styrofoam heading on it from boredom i believe..My Dad was pissed, but later took me for a summer ice cream ride, and down an old drag strip road in town, buried the needle as my Ice cream ended up on my shirt.I'll never forget it..Miss my ole man..

Temp-pit-ture. Sin--sa-nat-tuh ball club. Sked-yule. He'd never say Reds, just ball club. I wonder if it's due to fighting against Communism in the war.

@@dallasbrubaker6054 there's other Kell-isms too "they're gonna wh-ave him in!" "he hit em' on the fee-ist" xD lol loved George and Al Kaline in my 1980's childhood.....I miss hearing their voices, along with Ernie Harwell's and Paul Carey's

Trivia - the stylized gothic D on the Detroit jersey is the oldest logo in sports. It first appeared on the road uniform in 1904. Oddly, it was not used on the home uniform until 1905. The Yankees logo did not appear until 1912. However, the Tigers flirted with other forms of the D, and even a Tiger icon, or just words, so the use has not been continuous.

Replaying the '68 season right now with the newly released super advanced '68 set from SOM! This is the 3rd time i've played the '68 season. Ist time in '69, 2nd time in 2002 with the reissued advanced version, and now with the new set. Love that '68 Tiger team!!

@@ricopetrilli1084 Wanna see the best hitters emerge? Raise that mound 6" higher & return to the K zone from the numbers to the knees. Yeah. Dingers will be as scarce as the dodo, but basic hit & run strategy will dominate. The BB, SB, & run scoring single will rule & the teams who emphasize batting fundamentals will rule. Games will be closer.

@@bernieudo4399 1968 was an outlier. There were many young pitchers coming into their own like Seaver, Koosman, McNally, and Tommy John to name a few. Several stars had down years like Clemente and Killebrew. Clemente hit .291 after winning the batting title and having a career year in 1967. Parks are smaller nowadays, and the ball is supposedly livelier. Things wont change that much. I dont follow the game anymore anyway. No unless they adopt revenue sharing.

And Maury Wills was his era’s Lou Brock... ...and Ty Cobb was his era’s Lou Brock... ...and now that the analytics nerds have crunched their numbers and consulted their spreadsheets nobody runs anymore. And I’m watching games that are more than half a century old to see a sport called “baseball” that doesn’t exist anymore.

A simple time. Really. Umpires smoking in between innings. Yup. Players had second jobs. Very few broke the $100,000 ceiling by '68. Even by '74 the highest paid player was Aaron @ $200,000. (equal to the President & Aaron had a better year)
