1969 Chevelle Malibu - Test Drive !!

I restored this car about a year ago and it has pretty much sat for that time. In this video I go over what it needs to be complete and be a good daily driver type car.

I had gotten tired of so many Chevy's having this style of Rally wheel but they look good without the trim rings and yours are wider than stock aren't they? They really look good on your car! , That rattle you have in the back sounds like the torsion bars that hold the trunk lid up rattling against each other where they cross, Some of them have a rubber hose about a foot long or so to keep them from rattling together. The only thing I can see on your car that I would have done differently is I would have taken the Malibu scripts off of the rear quarters because the SS didn't have them. But it's done and i wouldn't change a thing now! Nice car! I would really like to see all of your cars washed up and in a line to show them off! I'm a Pontiac Man first and then Oldsmobile and then all of the others and I really want to see the 74 GTO and 70 Lemans cleaned up and running! I owned my first 70 Tempest at 17 years old my senior year of high school, It was a Tempest GT37 and they only built 1500 of them, I lost count how many Tempest and Lemans I've owned years ago, It's up in the hundreds! And of course buying them led to buying Olds Cutlass, Chevelles and Buick Skylarks because they shared so many parts! Looking forward to seeing more of your cars!

rims are 8 inch. the rattle was loose shock extensions. had a previous helper put them on and he left them loose. also speedometer is making a bad noise. I believe I have a new cable on it, will have to lube it up.

You seem like a pretty smart guy. You're telling me that youve never thought of investing in car covers? Rather than just letting all that dust get on your cars an possibly ruining the paint.

Dust won't ruin the paint. Car covers blow off no matter how good you tie them down.

They also itch into the paint if outside and blowing in the wind. Best for indoor use.

Which intake manifold is that? and are you using an adapter- spacer on it? If so I would get the matching carburetor which is quadrajet and use a normal air cleaner. If it's a square bore monifold I would remove the spacer. Edelbrock makes a nice thick gasket to reduce the fuel heat soak. If that's a problem. My 68 with 454 and Edelbrock rpm manifold with 1407 carb. closes and I have a k& n filter. I tried using a velocity stack under the air cleaner housing and it wouldn't close. Plus I think those adapter plates to go from spread bore flange to square bore always have vacuum leaks imo. Better off with Rochester.

Great looking car! And thanks again for sharing. I wonder why the ignition light stays on? Is it charging OK? If it's connected correctly the warning light might be caused by a faulty diode block within the alternator. It might be worth trying it with a different alternator to see whether the warning light then goes out? If that doesn't fix it, then it might be either a faulty connection from the ignition switch (input side) or to the battery side (output side).

Let me ask, does your alternator have a separate voltage regulator?You have the symptoms of a end bell voltage reg that has failed; voltage charging as high as 18 volts; system shorted to ground; thus battery drained when engine not running. Good luck!

It's HEI with a newer alternator with built in regulator. Battery doesn't drain.

@@clunkersandclassics if everything is working right reverse the wires to the light then unhook alternator or take off the belt then while running see if the light comes on then. ran into that with a 61 corvair wont hurt it to run it off the battery for a minute to find out.

My buddy let me drive his 69 chevelle. Manual steering, 4 drums, power glide. It's all original but that's not such a good thing...all lll over the road with that sloppy steering lol. My skill alone was all that overcame haha
