I think they left the factory with rust. I just spent a fair bit of time removing the rust from my 69 RS (Michigan car). What surprised me was the total lack of anything that reassembled rust prevention. My rear frame rails, floors, torque boxes and most everything else was infected. The center tunnel was nearly rust free, saved due to a rear main seal leak, I wish it would have splashed across the entire undercarriage! Anyway when I took replaced the rear frame rails I discovered raw metal inside, no primer, no paint, just bare steel and rust.

Or a new gen kid entitled ready to send the 427 engine to the scrap and drop a lambo engine in it and wrap the original frame and body around a pole. Or just plain destroy it because hey it's old and stood for white supremacy. The V75 Liquid Tire Chain was a rare 1969-only option for most Chevrolets (excluding wagons and pickups). It featured rear nozzles that sprayed a traction fluid onto the tires, improving grip on snow and ice. Need that option in Canada!

My 1st car in 1972 was a 69 SS/RS 396 4 Speed Posi Camaro. Paid $2,200.00 for it. The guy that owned it was in the newly formed Northern Calif Z-28 Association in San Jose Ca and was killed in Nam. My older brother was in the club too with a 1970 Z-28 w/427 Rat 4 speed. I had a Blue and Black 69 Mach 1 Mustang 4 Speed in my parents driveway test driving it. My brother called me and said "CHUCK" get down here right now I found a killer car. Had my 69 for 10+ years did all sorts of mods. I sold it for $4.000.00. Dumbest thing I did in my whole life !!! I loved that car more than anything in my life !!! It was hugger Orange with a yellow pearl clear coat w/SS black stripes. One of the very very 1st Pearl Orange Cars anywhere !!! I had the block punched out w/12to1s pistons, custom headers, radical Cam, Accel Ignition, Edelbrock tarantula intake... the 750 Holley set at an angle "/"... still makes me sick... The biggest reason I had to sell it... was to many tickets. I remember 1 time I took the trunk lid off and put my newly just out ATC 110 up on the back with lol with the ATC tires in the trunk and the front tire on the window and went down to Pismo Beach with my brother n buddy's w/ are sand rails... so many more stories...

This one was great. Brought back many memories as my parents owned a hugger orange w/black hockey stick 1969 Camaro SS 396 with the black vinyl top. Theirs was automatic with the "H" shifter though. They sold it decades ago, but man the memories of my child hood burning my legs on the after market side pipes and the just the look of the car. I miss it every day.

60s Camaros are the best 😍
@NovaResource3 жыл бұрын
What’s really funny about the Camaro story is, the 2nd generation is really what the original concept for the Camaro was. GM mandated the upcoming redesign of the Nova to be the basis of the 1st generation Camaro in order save money and time in getting the Camaro to market. This is why it’s so similar to the 3rd generation Nova and had a “tall cowl”. Using the Nova allowed designers extra time to clean sheet a 2nd generation Camaro in the European design originally desired (longer and lower). This is one of the reasons the 1st generation only lasted 3 years. But as it turns out, the 1st generation has become the favorite of most Camaro fans and is what comes to mind when most classic car people think of a Camaro. I love 2nd generation Camaros (especially the early ones) but they still pale in comparison to 1st gens in my opinion.

I actually had a '69 Camaro for a short time, not an SS of course. Bought it in '96 or '97, a Colorado car, never been undercoated, never saw salt, no rust. Six cylinder, three speed, it begged for the proper engine/trans/ suspension. Which it never got from me unfortunately. With an LS engine, six speed, modern suspension and brakes it would be a wonderful car. I think the '69 is the best looking Camaro.

Really like Camaros. All generations of camaro bring something nice to the table. I’ve owned 2 6th generation Camaros… the thing about the 1st generation is the inline 6 cylinder 250 was their best engine for that car. With that engine the camaro ran with durability dependability and drive ability….even the 307 was troubled. The 2nd generation was built so much better. But yet the 69 is the best looking of all time…

There were three 396 engine options. They were factory rated at 325 HP, 350 HP, and 375 HP. The L78, 375 HP version had 11:1 compression, a solid lifter camshaft, and a 780 CFM Holley 4 barrel carburetor. Although the L78 was factory rated at 375 HP in the Camaro, the same exact engine was rated at 425 HP in the Corvette. My dad has a '68 RS/SS 396/375 that he finished restoring in 1998. It's got manual steering and drum brakes all around. As a kid, that thing was kind of terrifying and exhilarating at the same time, and it still is. But, that's the point of these cars. They're supposed to scare you a little. That's the whole fun of it.

Camaro is not a re-skinned Nova. The generation of Nova that shared the front subframe with the Camaro arrived a model year later. I’m sure they were co-developed to save money, because GM, but there are plenty of differences in the platforms. No floorpan stampings in common, nor the trunk or rear unibody frame rails. Very similar construction, but the chronology doesn’t support the Camaro being derived from the Nova.
