This particular model and year was always my favorite, as far as looks go. I appreciate Tim improving on the original design without going too crazy. I never knew these models had bad steering and bad brakes, and unibody issues. It was always out of my price range, but If I had money to burn, this would the car I'd pick. I wonder how much Tim has invested in this, in my head, the ultimate muscle car. $300,000?

This is what I believe a resto-mod should be. Subtle period correct changes and tastefully modernize the driving experience without taking away the character of the vehicle. Probably the best '68 Camaro in the world today.
@stratplayr6997
@stratplayr6997 5 жыл бұрын
@Jar of Smegma I think he's referring to "character" in the sense of the vehicle's design and aesthetic details. Too many restomods have digital dashes, wheels and interior parts from modern cars. This one looks like a regular '68 from the outside, and the interior also looks like factory spec (except for the large gauges - but they still look appropriate) - this car is very tastefully done!

@port nut If that car were in a showroom today , it would not look out of place (assuming the bumpers would pass a crash test) as far as the styling. Emissions might be an issue too. The safety equipment... would be frowned upon. Boy, the government has sure ruined cars and ruined drivers too. There is so much equipment helping bad drivers , they don't need to learn how to drive.

@noble mc Custom American cars are used to be one of a major car culture in Japan around 90’s - 00’s but after the gas price went through the roof, it declined. When I had 91’ Firebird GTA around 01’ - 03’, we could still see lots of F bodies, Corvettes, Astros, Caprice sdn/wgn etc were around. But now you can hardly find these kinds in the streets. However, there are some enthusiasts who love American muscle cars of 60’s & 70’s exist. Btw, we don’t even see many JDM sports cars either and it seems that young generations like iPhones over cars.

No, Tim just realized how easy it would be to put the passenger side rear fender into one of those parked cars... I made the same face with my 450hp '71 Z28 with a 4 speed manual driving down a narrow street with cars parked on both sides... you forget sometimes how easy it is to hang the rearend out instantly....and how easy disaster can strike when you apply just a tiny bit too much throttle. Remember , Tim said it was the SECOND time he had been in the car. Tim , you have one of the coolest Camaros I have ever laid eyes on. You could not have made it better. Steve McQueen would have loved it.

Projecting. No one knows exactly what he was actually feeling and thinking at that moment besides Tim, even if you imagine you've made an identical face in an identical situation. That still doesn't mean what was going on in his head was identical to what was going on in your head. That's called projecting. You could be totally right, or you could be wrong. I don't know. What I do know is that you're projecting and acting like there's no other answer besides how *you* felt in that moment. That's not a good mindset to have. The intellectually honest answer is "I don't know, but this is what I *think is likely.*"
@doug.ritson

jawn1977jaws. Totally agree. Notice that they show the burnout a couple times and that face he made was exactly when the car started to twist sideways, and he was headed down the street toward cars parked on either side.. Yeah, I'd want to check my undies after that. 3 way tie in my book for the best looking car of all time - '57 Chevy, 68 Camaro, 70 Mach 1. Man if I ever win the Lotto - I'll have 2 of each.

I know I'm probably not the only person to have this thought, but if gm would just release a brand new special Retro Camaro they wouldn't be able to keep up with the orders. I'm talking a Camaro that looks exactly like a 1st gen (and i don't mean a modern take on the original)but with modern drivetrain, chassis, and amenities. They can still sell their new Gen Camaro as well.

I think interest would be high but the demand wouldn't. A first gen Camaro is small, with the factory seats anyone over 6' will be aware of headroom. The general foot print of the 1st gen Camaro is about the same as my RX-7. As for the cost they wouldn't be cheap not unlike the company making new 70' Mustangs.

OMG.!!!!! Be-a-utiful.!!!!!!! In 1967 and 1968, Yenko was dropping 427 cubic-inch monsters from Corvettes into Camaro bodies and creating some of the most powerful Camaros of the era. One of Yenko’s crowning achievements came in 1969 when Yenko was tired of selling Camaros with limited warranties because of his modifications and convinced Chevy to add a 427-equipped Camaro to its special equipment ordering system, known as COPO (central office production order). This addition of the 427-equipped Camaro to COPO made it possible for Yenko to sell these cars with the GM-standard 5-year or 50,000-mile warranty. Yenko ordered a grand total of 198 of the Camaro 427s available from COPO. The total number of COPO Camaros produced and sold is unknown, but has been rumored as anywhere from 500 to 1,000. With exception of the 427 jammed into the engine compartment, the Camaro 427s came from COPO with almost nothing identifying them as a special model; they even came with the old dog dish hubcaps on steel wheels. Yenko made sure to order his from COPO with 15-inch rally wheels, a front stabilizer bar, and a 140 mph speedometer. The rest of the customization was all Yenko’s doing.

It had been her boyfriend’s before he went to Vietnam. She took over the payments when he was drafted. Unfortunately, she lost control of it during an ice storm and it was a basket case after that. Thank God she wasn’t hurt. We were 4 years and 1 day apart in age, she being born on April 3rd, 1952 and me on April 4th, 1956. I've always been a Mustang/Ford guy, and we used to make fun of Chevys and Camaros, but this is the best Camaro I've ever seen, and I would be proud to own and drive it. Tim did such a great job with his choices and approach to the machine. It's truly awesome! And he even painted it my favorite color (love dark metallic greens)! What a ride - Thanks Jay and Tim!

I like the fact that Tim refrained from putting a cowl induction hood on it(which wasn't available until the '69 Camaros were released) like everybody seems to on early Camaros. '67-'68s are my favorite Camaros(followed by '70 1/2-'73s). the flares are nicely done(looks a little gen 2 Camaro at certain angles, especially the wheel openings IMO). Superb Camaro!
