I thought you might like a look at this awesome 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z28. It's powered by the famous, high-winding 302 V8, backed by a four-speed Muncie transmission. All the power is being sent back to a 12 Bolt rear with 3.42 gears with Posi. It's painted in the original Burnished brown with white stripes and the interior is in black vinyl. It's riding on the correct rally wheels with some white letter tires. This car fires right up and sounds mean. I hope you find it interesting, thanks for taking a look!

In the summer of 1971 I graduated high school, my dad was a senior master sergeant stationed at Robins AFB in Warner Robins Georgia. There was a local car owned by an airman stationed at the base. That summer he was ending his tour of service and put his 69 Z28 up for sale. I saw it at the barracks with a for sale sign on it, took my dad to look at it. It was parked alone under a light, someone yelled at us, "hey get away from my car". He approached us and my dad introduced himself and his rank, I remember his name was Joe, he was from NYC and was returning home. Then he told my dad everything about the car and engine. It had been rebuilt by a specialty builder in Atlanta, balanced and blue printed and tested on a dyno registering 520 horsepower at 7200 rpm. The builder was W.L. Kitchens. Joe popped out all the stats on the engine like he had studied it and memorized it like his abc's. Hooker headers, pop up pistons with 12.5 to 1 compression ration, racing cam, traction bars, high rise manifold with a single barrel Holly carb. He changed the oil and filter every 2k miles and he kept it tuned at the base hobbyshop , it only ran on Amoco white gas or Sunoco 260. After we left I knew my dad (an aircraft mech by training) would never let me have that car. BUT, he said to me, you've got the money saved and if you resave it and go to college, you can buy the car. I bought it the next day. The car was a beast and had been babied for 20,000 miles. It was Burnished Brown with white racing stripes, plus it had the Rallye Sport options, hide away headlights and a rubber Endura bumper that matched the color of the car. It had the Z28 cowl induction, and just for looks non functioning corvette side pipes. No vinyl top. I had the car for a year and a half, my freshman year at Mercer University I felt like I couldn't afford the car and a private school, gas had gone to 40 cents a gallon so I sold the car of my life to a friend, without a doubt the biggest regret of my life. My friends name was Roy Veronee, and he sold the car to another young man from WR named C. W. Wortham. That was the last I knew of what happened to my Z. I think Claude moved to Virginia and later to New Mexico, I haven't been able to locate him to find out the later history of the car, but all my other memories of the car are nothing but Good. I have made a lot of mistakes in my life, but buying that car was certainly not one of them, selling it was.

the six people that dislike this video are just freaking jealous because they cannot have a beautiful car like that
@pjblakeii
@pjblakeii 6 жыл бұрын
I disagree... the dislikes may be related to the narration... which in my opinion was poorly done..."...nice chrome bumper on the front"... "..there's the 302 sticker..." . Really?? Maybe next time, have a car guy to the narration, with a bit more information, that would interest...ya know...CAR GUYS !@!!

I've seen a lot of numbers batted around, but one thing is for sure, they were making a lot more than 290 HP. Set of gears, decent tires, and headers and you end up with a real beast on your hands.

i like the color also, a friend had a copo this color but this car has wrong tail pipes, very incorrect trunk striping, air cleaner top should be black color, not chrome, shift knob should be chrome because car has console and i guess they decided to paint the dipstick orange, should be natural metal color. just saying.

Not sure if I have ever seen this Chevy color before. The 302 is my favorite Chevy motor, probably not the best for the drag strip but a true race motor.

good daily drive motor….manageable gas mileage provided you don’t go overboard on the cam grind

Great video Jeff. These Camaros with the 302 had a solid lifter cam, 11 to 1 compression ratio, and a seriously down rated 290 hp. It was more like 400. It was down rated for insurance reasons. I love those early Camaros, I think they were beautiful looking. Take care Jeff.

All it takes to make them really quick is a set of lower gears in the rear and some headers. They really run strong with 4:56 gears out back. They were capable of pulling to 7,000 RPM right from the factory.
@wtbm123
@wtbm123 11 жыл бұрын
I think the 302 was designed for Trans Am Racing. Were not made for low end power but for high rpm numbers. There is a Yellow one over town . Not sure what gear it runs but most of its miles are track miles and it runs pretty well for such a small engine. The brown color is interesting.

Very, very nice. Not picking this car apart at all, but the proper shifter ball on that Hurst shifter was always a chrome metal ball for all 1969 Z/28's. I'm very lucky to have one in Hugger Orange.

You don't want to ruin the originality of these Camaro's however. they are extremely light. Strengthen the frame. Huge Cam, bigger heads, Custom headers and 4:11 rear end. Even bigger carb set up. Set of huge drag radials and this car will run low 10's all day

Dude that is so beautiful. For some reason I have loved the 67-73 Camaros, but until recently I did NOT like the 69. Just something about them I didn't like and I think after lots of looking at the first 3 years and I think it was the crease down the sides on the 69. However, I have fallen in love with the 69 and ironically it's my favorite year for the Camaro now, go figure. I saw one with side pipes and it looked amazing. I think any of these {and especially this one in burnished brown} would look so cool with nice shiny polished chrome side pipes on them. They look great as they are but one day I'm gonna have a few of them and one has to have the side pipes. You find some really nice cars man, love it. If I could make one friendly suggestion, could you possibly show the entire car zoomed out and do a walk around to see them at all different angles? That would be awesome. Still, great job and thanks for making these. I also never liked the 69 Firebird either. Love the 67 and 68 and 70-73, but not the 69. I have found a couple that I like, but I'm still not a fan of that year in the Firebird, but the 69 Camaro is incredible!

I remembered when they roamed the earth. and they were a dime a dozen. my daddy sold them brand new then in the 70s he had a couple of used car lots and they were plentiful. and every other hot rod. I grew up working on them and driving the all. the 302 was a great motor. they were basically a 327 with a 283 crank. the fastested car I ever rode in and including big blocks of the era, was my buddy's 69 SS396 Chevelle with a 327 with power pack heads. stock motor, it would fly!

The 2nd car I ever owned was a 69 Z-28 in blue with white stripes. I had Hooker headers on mine and just ran header pipes for the exhaust with no tail pipes. I changed the gearing to 4.11 gears. It was a monster car. The mechanic that used to work on it still says to this day that it was the hottest street car that he ever drove.

Ok lester, I know this old post, but you SHOULD do your research before you make comments that are completely wrong. These cars were built AS race cars from the factory. Actual HP on a stock 302 with optional headers is 403 HP as per the camaro research group, which has verified same. The intake IS original gm equipment, only used on select hi performance motors, made for GM by winters foundry it bears there famous snowflake symbol. Hi rise/ hi performance aluminum intake with a factory equipped Holly 780 cfm carb....I'm just saying
