I'm 22 and my friends always ask why I'd rather have a muscle car than a modern era sports car. My answer is as follows: One, nowadays, cars don't have the reliability of a classic car, not that every classic was without issue, but still, two, most cars now are saddled with a 4 or 6 cylinder, whereas classics like this amazing Charger Daytona had V8s of varying sizes, be it a 340, 440 with triple deuce carbs or the mighty 426 Hemi, every last one was a work of art. That Daytona is beautiful, by the way.

@@rickbailey189 No problem at all. Muscle cars of any kind have always fascinated me, and considering my father has a 1982 Mustang GT fitted with a 351W and is currently restoring a 1946 Ford F3 flatbed pickup with mostly original 239-cid flathead V8 mated to a 4-speed manual transmission, I'd say muscle cars and antique trucks are a great passion of mine.

While I'm more of an 80s muscle car stan, I still know that this era of Muscle cars was objectively better. What is better for an example than this? The metallic roar of the engine sends shivers down your spine at the tone of a perish song, it can easily outrun a Ferrari 360, it looks like a wind-sculpted piece of art, and as shown in this video, it can easily spin its heavy-set tires. I take my hat off to Dodge for making this car.
@Coelacanth97
@Coelacanth97 5 ай бұрын
There was a muscle car made in the 80's? Other than the Buick GN, I don't think so. I'm extremely fortunate to own both an '86 GN and '70 Charger 500. I don't believe any car from the 80's could be called a muscle car, the GN excluded, of course.
@StatickyCat
@StatickyCat 5 ай бұрын
@@Coelacanth97 People always debate over whether the 80s mustangs, Camaros and firebirds are muscle cars. The way I see it, a muscle car doesn’t have to come from the factory with an exhaustive amount of power. In fact, I say those 80s manufacturers are clever. They substituted factory-spec power for sheer tunability, and as we both know, people tune the 80s Mustangs to death, giving them more power than the Bugatti Veyron. And I’m saying this knowing that the Pontiac GTO and Mustang came out in the 60s intending to be cars that don’t need to be tuned to be powerful, but that’s just because _the factory tuned it themselves._
@Coelacanth97
@Coelacanth97 5 ай бұрын
@@StatickyCat So you're basically saying you don't think muscle cars are born with power. I disagree with this view. Sure, you can aftermarket-tune a Dodge Omni or Ford Probe or do an engine swap and give them tons more power, but that doesn't make them muscle cars. Even Chevy's flagship performance car Corvette couldn't hold a candle to the Grand National or Turbo T, so I would stand by my definition of those Turbo Buicks being pretty much the only true muscle cars made in the 80's.
@StatickyCat
@StatickyCat 5 ай бұрын
@@Coelacanth97 Well, I don’t disagree with you, I mean they’re called muscle cars for a reason. But cars from the 80s are generally super weak and the Mustangs, Camaros and Firebirds were still more powerful than most of what you could get from the factory at the time. I guess Ford and Chev themselves didn’t know what they were saying calling their 80s machines muscle cars. Perhaps Dodge were the smart ones, not even trying in the 80s, they just done gave up until they made the Viper. The term muscle car may be inaccurate, but I think the definition of a muscle car is subjective. It’s no different from calling a person strong. Whether that person is weak or not is up to the other person’s view. But I’ll still call them muscle cars, they may not be powerful, but they still carry the pony car names and they definitely still looked cool IMO. The Buick Regal GNX is definitely a muscle car though, if that 6 cylinder doesn’t void the definition. I do think it’s kind of a pity that American V8s at the time didn’t get the same well-tuned treatment as the GNX, because while I love 6’s, the American V8 is unmatched.

Actually, that was a 1970 PLYMOUTH RoadRunner Superbird (or just "Superbird"), the twin sister car to the 1969 DODGE Charger Daytona. The Superbird exists because NASCAR banned the Charger Daytona from competing, so the Chrysler Corporation made the Superbird (which is just a re-badged Daytona) to get around that ban.

@@SigTheSauceMan Not true at all, Plymouth did not want to make a Wing car, they thought it was ugly, but Richard Petty wanted a fast car, so he told Plymouth, until he got a faster car he was going to Ford, so he did in 1969. Then Plymouth realized there mistake, released the SuperBird on the Road Runner body, and Petty came back for 1970. Neither were banned until 1971, and even then, they were not banned, the Big Blocks were, AKA, no bigger than 305 CI, infact, a few guys did run the 1971 Daytona 500 with the small block, and one finished 3rd.

What a beautiful car, if I had to only drive 1 car for the rest of my life the 69 dodge charger daytona would be it And you only used to brake to get it going, that's a dodge for ya

I don't even need a Daytona, just a normal 69 Charger for me would be awesome. My dream car

Actually according to a dyno test of a pristine 426 from one of these cars it had about 450-475 horsepower. Torque was the same though. Chrysler lured about the power to keep it in the race

@Leatherface123. 3 жыл бұрын
The demon is the first dodge product that’s actually built for a specific sport Since the Daytona Daytona for nascar Demon for drag racing Both cars got banned in their designated sports due to how fast and unfair they were I’d say the demon is a representation of what dodge used to do

It's good to see someone actually drive a Daytona instead of parking it in a nuke proof climate controlled bunker like every other Daytona owner does

To be honest, if I had one, even a replica based off of a normal Charger with not 100% original parts, I'd treat it with kid gloves too.
