This very rare 1969 Ford Cobra 428 is the real deal and has been completely restored to high show quality standards. It retains its original color combination. It’s powered by its original matching numbers 428 CJ Ram Air V8 engine, C-6 Cruise-O-Matic transmission and 9” rear with 3.50 gears. It’s fully documented with the original build sheet and Marti Auto Works “Deluxe Report” which are included. It’s one of only 3,786 built which makes it highly collectable. As documented this example was built on November 29th, 1968. It was retailed by Massey-Ford located in Hagerstown, MD on April 17th, 1969. It was built in Atlanta, GA as a 1969 Ford Cobra 2-door hardtop with a Royal Maroon Paint exterior and Black Broadcloth/Vinyl bench seat interior. The car was a previous drag car and could’ve been part of Holmann and Moody but there’s no documentation to support that claim. Gregory decided to sell the car a few years later in 2008 to John Armacost who also lives in Maryland. John is a very experienced restorer of various Ford models. John purchased this rare car to restore and bring it back to its glory days. It was a very solid example and completely matching numbers so it made total sense. Unfortunately, parts were hard to source so he had to collect them over the course of many years. Finally around 2014 he started the meticulous nut and bolt restoration which was on a part time basis.
The exterior screams muscle car and is striking in appearance with its mean demeanor. The car retains all of its original sheet metal with exception of the hood and trunk lid which was taken off another car. The body and paint work was completed by well-respected Jerry’s Hot Rods in Maryland. The body is very straight with excellent body gaps throughout. It sports a hood scoop and hood pin which looks awesome. The hood, doors and trunk lid close very nicely. The car was repainted in its factory original color of Royal Maroon paint. The paint was recently detailed and looks ocean deep. It does have a small imperfection on the hood that can be seen in the photo gallery. The car retains all of its original Ford Car-Lite stamped glass which is in very nice condition especially considering the age. The wheels originally would’ve been black with larger style deluxe hubcaps which wasn’t very attractive in most people’s opinion. The car sits on 14” steel wheels that were painted body color and then wrapped with Goodyear Polyglas F70x14 white raised letters.
The beautiful black interior is very simple but at the same time very stylish. It’s actually very spacious and comfortable. During the restoration the original build sheet was found under the rear seat. The build sheet was laminated for protection and included. It still retains some original interior trim such as the headliner, dash, gauges, seats, seat belts and rear package tray.
The engine compartment is highly detailed throughout with many correct parts. The car is powered by the original matching numbers 428-4V Cobra Jet Ram Air V8 engine that was factory rated with 335HP. The engine was completely rebuilt by Morris Automotive Machine located in Manchester, MD. The engine runs and sounds awesome! The 428 CJ was available with or without the Ram Air Induction package, however those with Ram Air still carried the same advertised power rating. The 428 CJ without Ram Air, came with the following items: 80-ampere heavy-duty battery, 3.25:1 open differential, heavy-duty cooling package, 55-ampere alternator, chrome valve covers and dual exhaust. The Ram Air 428 CJ included all the above, but had a 3.50:1 open differential and the functional hood scoop. With Ram Air “428 Cobra Jet” emblems were placed on each side of the hood scoop and without Ram Air “428” emblems were placed on the front fender. It’s equipped with its original Holley 735cfm 4-barrell carburetor and distributor which now is setup with Pertonix electronic ignition. The engine breathes through factory manifolds and a factory reproduction dual exhaust system. The exhaust system is has the original exhaust hangers. The engine is coupled to the original matching numbers C-6 Cruise-O-Matic 3-speed transmission.
The undercarriage is also highly detailed throughout with many correct parts.

Back in the mid 1970's my brother bought a Gray 69' cobra 428 4 speed in Greenwich Conn.. for $1500 exactly like this one .. Since then I have never seen another like it at shows or on the road since until seeing this video ... In hindsight it may have been one of the rarest Fords ever .. who knew ....

I had a black one and one in black jade green. Both were 4 speed cars but needed a little tuning to get them as fast as possible. High 13s factory but 11s we're no problem with the optional cj cam, Hooker headers and a little tuning. I was not happy to find my favorite one stolen and you can't find these cars to replace them. The cars were tough as nails and handled surprisingly well with a firm well balanced suspension for the day. The 3x2 Holley setup for the 406 worked on the great on the 428 but was a gas hog. It only had 14x70 tires so no surprise it would fry them in high gear but fun cars. The cj cam was good for 7000 rpm and stupid power up there with the 3 holleys, damn having a flashback, sorry for rambling but if you rode in it you would still be talking about it too.

I was 15 in 1969 and my dad bought our Cobra in Spokane Wa. It was very rare and I'd sure like to find it. Our car was badged as a Fairlane 500 on the rear quarters. It had automatic with console, ram air

If it was badged Fairlane 500 it was not a Cobra, or it was an unforgivable mistake from the factory.

Unusual because it's not the fastback. I bought a 1970 Ford Torino Cobra, 429cj four speed manual. First year of that body style. It didn't say Torino but Cobra even though it was that body style. I owned a 1967 Fairlane GTA that started life with a 390, the previous owner put the 428 in it

I would enjoy putting all new metal on this beautiful car. Dad has a very rare 69 Torino Talladega super cobra jet with 9 Ford, drag pak, tilt, pwer windows and driver's seat am/fm, 4 speed topoader , posi, and split buckets. He drive it for 3 weeks and stored it away in his climate controlled pole barn with special bay. The sloping front. Aerodynamic lights and extended. Lowered front end isn't appealing to me. The flush mounted rear window is hard to see out of. The front disc's and rear brakes were removed for storage along with the redline tires all under wraps. The original plastic is still on the seats. Dad hated that car, so he parked it and drove his 68 Shelby GT500 KR with twin intake, hotter Shelby cam, headers, exhaust. Dual 4bbl carbs and AC. the Talladega has a little over 800 original miles and his KR has 41k. That tells you what he favors. Well, my older brother asked Dad if he could have the 69 Talladega and Dad literally begged him to take it.. .free of charge, signed it over to JD and it's now in JDs climate controlled garage, trailored to every event. Dad hated that car. My brother's bought his trucking company. So the old guy man is happy with his KR. It's an automatic C6 with posi. Dad would love your car here. He's a Ford guy.

The very definition of a muscle car - a (then) midsize with room for four, with the tractable 428 CJ for power. The CJ had better street manners than the 427 medium riser, but with higher torque at lower rpm made a much better street [racing] engine. Example; mine, with a recurved distributor, a re-jetted carb, cam timing retarded two degree, a set of free flowing turbo mufflers, a shifter taken apart and manufacturing burrs removed, 3:91 gears w/locker, adjustable pinion snubber, and G60-14s, never lost a street race to Any Chevelle, including two LS6 cars, and the only Road Runners that it lost to were Hemi cars - even the 6-pack cars couldn't keep up. That's not to brag on me or my car - it's an example of what these cars really were. Boy, is he overselling this car, they're Not That Rare, and name dropping Holman & Moody is just shameless. "all the original sheetmetal, including the hood and trunk lid off another car"(?). Mine, very similar. Same color combination, except mine was a "Q" not and "R" (no ram air), and mine a 4spd car. This IS a stunning restoration, of corse it being a "background" job for the restorer shows there were other, higher value jobs to be done. Boy, if I could turn back time - I'd drive the wheels off it (again) because THAT'S what they're for, nothing like 428 CJ power under your right foot, and a Hurst shifter in hand to make driving a privilege! 16:04
