Steve.. thank you so very much for watching my videos I truly am humbled by it and am so grateful to you. I would agree with you. I wish I had a better way to pick up the audio from the engine.. the pure engine sound is really something else.

The GT500 is in a class of it's own. Good to see that the owner takes good care of it for generations to come. I enjoyed the details and the thorough manner in which you did the video. Keep em coming!

In Summer, 2017, I fulfilled a high school era dream of acquiring a 1969 GT500. Ours is Candyapple Red, and also has factory air conditioning. It is my all time favorite vehicle ever. We have three other Mustang and Shelby pony cars, but this is the Go To vehicle for any special event we are invited to. And, yes, we have won several awards from various car shows we have presented it in. I wish I could embed some photos in the comment.

First of all thank you so very much for watching my videos and subscribing to my channel I truly appreciate it. My intention for the videos is to showcase the car and also allow the owner of the car (the caretaker as Jay Leno rightly says) the opportunity to share their story, love and passion for their car. Wow you are very lucky indeed. Did you actually drive it across the country?
@mrjuvy492 жыл бұрын
Answer to reply: Yes I bought it new in Feb. 1970, and before I started college in Colorado. I went back East to visit army buddies, and crossed into Canada and drove out to Vancouver and then down to LA. Broke the car in good, and it is almost restored to drivable condition in Las Vegas, Nv .

Wow, that is awesome. Hopefully one day when I am in your neck of the woods I would love to share your story. Kevin

Wadzup. (Great name) it is a great question, and off camera I got the impression that it was not cheap but worth every penny. I also wanted to take a moment to personally thank for taking the time to watching my videos, leaving a comment and for subscribing to my channel I truly appreciate it. My intention when creating these videos is to showcase not only the beautiful car but give the owner an opportunity to share their story, love and passion for their car. Thanks again Kevin.

@@ClassicCarChitChat Silly question but you know how Mustang has codes, like Code A etc. What code is a Shelby or is it just called a Shelby GT500?

I’m sorry the car is great but the owner knows nothing! He almost sounds like he has no clue to some of the questions.

Victor.. first off.. thank you so very much for watching my videos 😀 I am no expert but I created the videos to allow the car owner an opportunity to show their passion about their beautiful cars.

Hans, First of all thank you so very much for watching my videos and subscribing to my channel I truly appreciate it. My intention for the videos is to allow ´ordinary people’ who love cars an opportunity to speak about their car and why that car means so much to them. After all we are all the "caretakers"of our cars (as Jay Leno rightly says).

This comment os a bit harsh. Yeah, I caught a few errors he made when answering some questions. But, I do not hold it against him, or anyone else trying to learn more about these wonderful machines. My qualifications for saying what follows is tht I am a 69 Mustang/Shelby raving fan since 1968. And I own a 1969 Shelby gT500 myself, and know it inside and out. The errors I caught in this video were not substantial - all minor. The first is with resect to the GT350 engine size being "350" (cubic inches). The GT350s came with a 351 Windsor 4v engine, and with air conditioning they required an automatic transmission and either a 3.0:1 or 3.,25:1 rear axle ratio gear set. The GT350 auto tranny was the venerable cast iron case FMX, a durable transmission. For GT500s that year we had the same restrictions for factory AC cars re: the rear axle ratios available, and an auto tranny, but the 428 came with a C6 auto transmission. Because of the steep rear axle ratio required for factory A/C cars, the A/C equipped Shelbys in 1969 were not asphalt shreedingly fast off the line. But, especially with the 428 CobraJet engine, they had plenty of torque to give an impressive experience to the driver (and passengers). The top end capability of the higher rear axle ratio, in conjunction with the kind of torque from the 428 helped provide a very fast upper end MPH capability, Also, there were two 428 engine options available, with non-A/C GT500s. Although the factory A/C equipped Shelbys are not fierce off the line due to their rear axle ratio requirement, they are plenty fast. 0-60 is certainly faster than the 8 or 10 seconds stated in the video. I have not raced around in out GT500, but I know my 1969 Mach 1 with a 351W engine was pulling 0-60 in 5,8 seconds, with a 3.0:1 rear axle ratio gear set and an FMX auto tranny. Not stunningly fast by modern standards. But for back in the Golden Age Of Muscle Cars that was not too bad. The 428 is faster, and its claimed 335 horsepower is intentionally understated. The actual horsepower from the 428 engine was closer to 410-415 HP, certainly enough to qualify as a muscle car, although technically it is actually a pony car class vehicle.. The 428CJ was the standard engine for the GT500s, but one could also order a 428 Super CobraJet engine which was built to be a bit more durable than the 428 CJ - but both are equally ferocious. Finally, the GT350 and GT500 in 1969 (and 1970, which were left over, unsold 1969 units) were not "exactly 4 inches longer" than the 1969 "Mach 1" Mustangs. The Shelbys that year were 4.6" longer than non-Shelby Mustangs, with a fiberglass hood and fiberglass front fenders providing that extra length. Other than those few gaffes the owner gave an accurate representation of his GT500. No matter, it is still a beautiful machine.
