On "My Car Story" we're at the Wisconsin State Fair Park in West Allis WI on 2-23-23 at the World of Wheels car show.
We're looking at a 1969 Ford Torino Talladega in Blue Paint. The car is equipped with a 428 CI Cobra Jet V8 engine, with an automatic transmission.
The car's Owner is Lewis Poberezny. Lewis’s had this car since 2022. Lewis shares he’s a Ford Guy and saw this car at a car show and convinced the Owner he would like to buy the car and did. Well done buying a cool car like this one.
If you’re interested in attending a World Of Wheels Car Show, here is the link to see the dates and show schedule autorama.com
ENJOY!

Why do you call the Torino Talladega “infamous”? There was nothing about the car that made it exceptionally bad or disreputable.
@easygoing2479
@easygoing2479 Жыл бұрын
@@sking2173 It may have been "infamous" to anyone who loved the Charger 500 earlier in the '69 model years. Dodge thought it would keep up with the Ford and Mercury aero cars, and they were sorely disappointed. But they can look at the bright side - this car and its Mercury brother are what drove Dodge (and Plymouth, with just a little persuasion from R. Petty) to grow _wings_ on their stock cars. It was the most fascinating couple of years in NASCAR's history.

I like this 1969 Ford Torino Talladega 428. Why these cars were only equipped with automatic transmissions is a mystery. I could tell that the engine is a little bit cold natured on initial startup, but sounded healthy when warmed up. The instrument cluster looked great lit up. I actually like the color of this car better than the original Presidential Blue factory color it came out with. All those cars had such character back then. I'm so ready for spring to get here, because these indoor car shows are getting old! Great Job Lou!

The car probably came without a lot of options to simplify production. These cars were made to allow Ford to use the slippery body in Nascar. They were not really designed to be high production cars. This might be why you have the bench seat and the rather sparse dashboard instrumentation as well.

Michael Gronemeyer, all public versions had C6 A/T and only three colors as options. Ford lost money on every car, thus, options were limited.
@sergeantmasson3669
@sergeantmasson3669 Жыл бұрын
@@budgetaudiophilelife-long5461, Standard engine was 428 CJ with A/T and no other engine options. Only three-color options and yellow was NOT one of them. White, burgundy, and blue were the only options. There were a few that were special built custom versions for specific people. One built for Ford CEO Knudsen that was yellow. Three others had 4 speed manual transmissions and the drag-pack option with traction-lock rear differentials. All were postproduction prototype cars. No 1969 Torino Talladegas had any side stripes, either. 1969 was the only year of production. 754 were produced but only 750 were for the general public. A small few had dealership installed Cobra stripes but none came from the factory with stripes.

I find it amusing that I mostly see older Retro and Classic Ford's and Mercury's. I also check Vangard motors sales. and I see the same stuff on Ford and Mecrury. Back in the 60's all I heard was Fix Or Repair daily. Find On Road Dead. FORD I'm a Ford man. Seems like Ford is the survivor still being sought after today. It took me a while to come back with a slang against Chevy. I came up with 2. 1.FORD means Fastest On Race Day=FORD. 2 Chevy. Can't Have Every Victory Yall. It's them damn Fords. I'm not going to mention "Leman's.😅🤣😂

Back in the early 70's a highschool pal's dad (WWII purple heart recipient. a real war hero) who was employed as a prop painter for Paramount Studios had his DL license suspended for a DUI and he'd peddle a studio provided bicycle back and forth to work. They lived only about 2 miles away. Anyhow, after a long while his license was reinstated and he showed up with one of these. it was white with a red interior and whoever he got it from had started on repairing the left rear 1/4 panel but never finished. Still, it was in remarkably good condition overall. Well, he didn't have it long as he 'fell off the wagon' he probably never got onto in first place and one Friday night while my buddy and I were at my place getting ready to go cruising Van Nuys Blvd, we got a call from my pals mother asking if we could get over to Whole Foods market that "Harvey got into somekind of wreck in the parking lot". She couldn't go as she, just like Harvey - tipped the bottle a lot. So, we head down to Whole Foods and there was Harvey sitting in the car all tanked up, dragging on a camel non-filter. First thing we did was looked him over and asked if he was okay. In his Foster Brook-ish, totally inebriated condition he looked at us, hick'd-up and sloshed out "Oh, I'm fine fella's I was just headed back home when this pole came out of nowhere and hit me". We laughed so hard and long I pee'd my shorts. Here was this HUGE parking lot less than probably a tenth full and he centerpunched one of the concrete light pole piers dead center with cars nose. About a week later some guy from Burbank showed up at my pals house wanting to see the car which was now listed for sale in the LA Recycler as a wrecked and possibly rebuildable "Talladega" for $200. He wrote down the vin, left a $50 deposit and said he'd be back. He returned with a flatbed handed over the rest of the cash to Harvey and was about ready to leave when my pal and I asked him what he's going to do with that thing being its so mangled. He said he discovered the car was originally delivered to Grace Kelly at the studios by Galpin Ford and he was going to restore it. That was the last time we saw it and nobody ever heard of anything afterward.

Lou! Fantastic coverage here. The Talladega came in 3 colors. Wimbledon White, Maroon, and Presidential Blue which was unique for the Talladega. I don’t think this color was available on any other Ford model. Since less than 800 were built, it’s really difficult to know the actual shade after 50+ years. And you can’t rely on a 1/18 scale die cast model from China. 99.9999% of the world’s population has never seen a Talladega. I’d be willing to bet “Deep Impact Blue” is as close to Presidential Blue as possible. By the way, there were no 1964 1/2 Mustang fastbacks. 🙂👍

Don't know why Ford didn't put a 4 speed in them back idk I perfer that but the car competed with Plymouth and Dodge with winged warriors back when Nascar you competed with what detroit gave you color is not correct but looks marvelous on that one

Hi Larry, Maybe it was the bench seat. Hoping a Viewer with knowledge can share. I agree the color looks good on this car, Lou

They only came with automatic's ? Why?
@loucostabile

Not sure, however maybe because they were all bench seat cars? Hoping a Viewer can share knowledge.

@@loucostabile Maybe they were bare bones cars ? Just enough to make the front end legal for NASCAR? A four speed would mean bucket seats and a console... maybe a bench and column shift ended up costing less to produce, even with the automatic?

Reading about it not much is said about it other than it wasn't really a 1/4 mile muscle car. Built more for the high bank superspeedway capable of almost 200 mph.

Don’t you just love how they underrated the horse power at 335 the same rating as a 383 Plymouth engine 😂.
