As this is my car I'll clear up a couple of points, firstly its a base model Monaro built in 1969, I built to look like the V8 GTS Monaro I couldn't afford in the mid 80's, it has a 400 dart little M block in it with a 4 speed Muncie, built 9 inch diff, full stainless 3 inch exhaust, with a decent brake upgrade as we all know the Monaros had shit brakes. A 5 year build and we are very happy with and drive it every chance we get. No point putting all that time, hard work and money into something that will only just sit in a shed. This goes to prove that whatever you post online is there for anyone to use as I had no idea that this video/montage of pictures was out there, only came across it by chance.

Im not into cars and would never buy an old one. I would rather buy a state of the art new Toyota Corolla, as I said not a car buff. However I can fully appreciate what you have done and can drive it knowing you restored it. You must have a great sense of pride and joy taking it out. I remember a friend who had a 69 GTS, it had a 307 and a 2 speed powerglide auto. It was green with gold stripes. It had a really nice fridgidaire air conditioner under the dash Lovely car. Yours looks brilliant.

Just do one thing. dont ever sell it. I did that with my HK Brougham and have missed it since..but I had to at the time...same as with my FJ which was the first Holden I owned. whether I'll ever own a Brougham or FJ again I dont know. life deals some shitty cards sometimes.

@@catey62 I know what you mean ,I had two HK monaro's one was a gts with a 307 chev and the other was a standard monaro. It would have been nice to know what they're worth now then . The gts was in mint condition when I sold it. It was given to me originally the guy I got it off said if I can get it out of his back yard I can have it so I did. Wasn't as bad as this one but still had to fix some rust . I restored mine over 12 months and painted it myself. Had it for a about 15 years then sold it . If I had somewhere to store it I would have kept it. The other one was full of rust lot worse than this one and I must have replaced the whole floor from front to back. Got it to primer stage and sold it.

I remember driving an HT Monaro back in 1972 when I was 16. It was a 253 V8, trimatic, in that dark green. Not particularly fast but was a good cruiser.

That's a superb restoration and a beautiful end product. Congratulations. Only one mistake, that's not a 1976 Monaro. The HT Monaro came out in 1969.

More builds like this one please. These are so much more engaging than some of the other "builds" that amount to not much more than a refresh (with added crappy Chinese lights) rather than a rebuild. This type is brutally honest and worthy of respect. Another request if I may. This is the first I have noticed in awhile that shows a before image on the thumbnail rather than an after image. Could you please make that the norm? Showing the finished build in the thumbnail takes away the wonder of what direction the build is going. It is like knowing the end of a movie before you've seen it. Having a before image makes the entire thing much more enjoyable and mysterious. Thanks, Neil

Firstly great to see an old car saved but geez i've seen chooks shit better then most of those welds, its a mig meaning you can adjust the amperage & wire feed so you can get nearly flat welds, and also try "pushing" the hand piece so that your welding "into" the gas bubble & not away from it

My dad sold his rolling HG for $16,000 8 years ago and was 'doing good' out of that deal, a few years later the next guy sold it for 30k, probably worth 60k as it is now, restored it's a 120k car...Bummer

Don't worry when i when i was 18 i owned 2 HK GTS's. My daily driver was a 186s, bored 192 ,cammed, solids, triple SU's, muncie 4 speed , hot wires. Sold it for $1200 in 1980 and the other one i bought for spares it was a black on black genuine Bathurst 327, i gave it away when i sold the daily!

An unrestroed HT GTS 350 fetches between 250-300K, this bitza would be pushing hard to make 100K at auction. I know where I'd put my money :-(

you're gonna have some problems, the car shell wont hold up to the power of a big V8, you need to strengthen the chassis, a car full of rust will even twist out of shape when you drive hard especially uphill.
