There's a 30-minute Detroit Diesel compilation on KZbin Somewhere, I've played it in the Sammy driving down the road with the volume at full blast. Mind you I was driving a 2024 Peterbilt at that time and that truck was an absolute pile of junk! Give me something with a screaming Jimmy any day

Those old drivers called them a Dee-troit. And they were very proud of that motor under the hood, or cab as the case maybe. A Cummins driver was kidding a Dee-troit driver I knew about his engine leaving a spot of oil under it when he was parked. My friend told the guy, "It doesn't leak oil, it is marking it's territory"! Once in a great while I will hear one of those old motors singing. And my wife cannot figure out why I stop and just listen till it is gone. Just have to tell her I was listening to an old familiar song.

Were these common back in the day? Like would you hear them all the time? If yes, i wish i couldve been there. I was born in 95'. Seems these engines and the big cast iron wheel hubs were on the way out.
@FRECHKN9 ай бұрын
They were super common road applications really picked up in the 50s and grew through the 60s. This one is straight piped most would've been muffled which you can still hear that unique sound. You'll hear them in movies aswell like Maximum Overdrive the Happy Toys Goblin truck is a detroit 2 stroke. Every maker had a detriot option even Ford lol. These were also used in an inline configuration and sound in equipment from forklifts to tractors and everything you can think of. Many ships from the 30s to 2000 had 2 stroke detroits aswell. The 2 stroke was replaced by the series 60 in road applications..
@anthonyrowland90727 ай бұрын
