@@michaelramsey82 This is a real problem with the military version too and why they got rid of them as front line vehicles (not that they were ever actually intended to be used in active combat zones, they were supposed to be for shuttling people and things around bases or behind the lines). They have a flat bottom hull so IED's and mines just shred the thing. Many a life has been lost because of this design flaw. It was competing with a vehicle actually designed with a V shaped hull that was far mroe capable of taking a blast. It was also lighter and less wide so it fit into transport aircraft better, but it was made by some small independent company and not GMC who have more... "presuasive" means of getting contracts with the DoD.

@@Mygg_Jeager I forget the company that made it, but it was some small independent outfit that had a vehicle that had a v shaped hull and the wheels a little further out more like a dune buggy. The idea being any explosions below the vehicle would have the force pushed outwards and take the wheels off rather than it being flat and forced almost entirely up into the crew and further contained by the placement of the wheels. It performed better than everything else they tested and also happened to be lighter and fit more easily into the back of cargo aircraft. They lost the contract because the DoD clearly had a favourite already, GMC already made loads of other vehicles for the military. They eventually went with something more akin to this design with the JLTV. The UK did something similar with the MASTIFF to replace the Land Rover Defenders.

Just buying a set of used logging truck tires costs around $10k, a single one of these tires, being super niche and probably custom made will likely be as expensive as that set of used logging truck tires. The bumper could probably be fixed to a workable point with very little money, but if you wanted to replace it so it's back to factory spec, again, custom part will be expensive. It probably also damaged or destroyed the rear drive shaft, which again, expensive

The Hummer they blew up was a drug dealers car they seized in a drug lab raid.
